I've considered getting a tablet. Used to do graphics for fun. However, take the price and compare it with the impact it would have on my life and I quickly lost that idea. Now I'm just drawing in a sketch book. If I ever get back to doing graphics, I might get a tablet. For now, I'm going to stick with spending my money on figures and kits.

I bought a Wacom Graphire a while back to use instead of my mouse in order to help relieve the carpal tunnel pain I was having then (which I since fixed with proper exercise!). In truth, I'd wanted one for a long time.

It did help my wrists for a time, but I never got used to it as a mouse replacement or as an interface to sketch directly onto the computer.

It sad unused for months, but just recently I've been using it a LOT for touchups, adjustments, and redraws in Photoshop, especially when I'm editing manga to prep it for translation. It's gone from an occasional handy novelty to an indespinsable tool of the trade. Now I'm wondering if I should have gotten one with buttons.

Hopefully my Photoshop work will be the practice I need to become comfortable with sketching directly on the computer, and skipping the paper stage.

I want one of their touch screens in a bad way, but I just don't NEED one yet, so I won't be purchasing that piece of technology bliss.

Did you find that you had a hard time adjusting to it?

Wacom's are very very nice tablets, got to use a big 12x12 while I was going to school. Just wish I could justify the cost of one for the little messing around that I do with graphics. I have tried one of the small 4x5 tablets and they are just too cramped for me. Wacom also is now making wide tablets 6x11 and 12x19 for those folks with wide screen monitors.

I've got a cheap Genius 8x6 tablet about a year ago. I barely use it, the biggest problems are that it seems that I cannot draw a circle if I'm not looking at my hand :P, and that the sketching (sp?) tools on the art software needs far too much presure to work.
OTOH, photo retouching with the tablet is really nice and much much easier than with a mouse.
Oh, and mine came with one of those useless mouses too, only that mine need s a battery to work.

Putting aside that I wanted a tablet since ever, I buy it for using it with Truespace, but the built-in tablet support is crap.

I started with 3d modelling on the C64 and the Amiga, just for fun, but just recently I started earn money with this.

First things first: I can finally log in here through Firefox, which I downloaded a few weeks back and decided to try the log in business and it worked! I am back! :P

    Second: I have a Wacom tablet, but the pen broke accidentally, and now I need to buy a new pen, and they're not exactly that cheap! -_-;

Anyway, good to be back! ^_^ Check out my site now - it's an art/figure blog. ^^

Hi Mr Danny, this is a wonderful site!

i use a graphic tablet (monitor type) for work. its quite damaging on the eyes though.

In the end, drawing on paper gives the best feel of all...

Call me old school, but I have never gotten used to tablets. The stuff we do at work is graphic intensive and relies heavily on modern technology. However when it comes to drawings, I still prefer paper and pencil. It feels less restricted during the initial design process. However, I have to admit that tablet is great for presentation and production phases. Kudos to everyone who has mastered the skill!

I used to draw a lot, so I got myself an Intuos3 9x12. I stopped drawing for almost a year, but I'm getting back into it again. Wacom makes a great product. One of my dreams is to have enough extra cash to blow on a Cintiq monitor, so that I can draw directly on the screen.

    Nice tablet.

I was thinking about getting one similar a while back but backed out at the last minute. Mainly as i wanted to focus on just getting my drawing skills better before forking out the cash.

Focusing on 3D design at the moment however.

Ah. You seen the Cintiq as well. I tried one of those during an IT fair here and those are absoutely awesome!

(Just that they are very expensive :( You can get a DSLR and some nice lens with it's price tag)

I own the same Wacom A5 pen tablet. Never used the mouse (I prefer the Apple bluetooth Mighty mouse). Use Photoshop mainly for photo artwork, Apperture for the pics i took with my Digicam, Image Ready for web graphics and Illustrator for the sketches.
One of my dreams (i have so many dreams) is to design shoes. You're very lucky to experience that.
Am very satisfied by this Pen Tablet, I hope you enjoy it, too.

Hi Danny, I use a cintiq 21UX at work. If I could afford one, I'd have one at home too, lol. I used to use the old style tablets like the one you have. It took a year to truely master, but I also had the advantage of working with automotive designers. Now that I've been using the cintiq for a year, I've almost lost my old tablet skills. I'm new here, and I noticed your Mirai project. Please visit my blog (http://scags1.blogspot.com) where you can see my current character work all done on the cintiq.

Wacom is notoriously greed company. Wait till they drop driver dev/support for your model, then you will be pissed at what you paid. I paid $400 for the last one I bought and one year later they stopped supporting it.

Yeah, I do it the old fashioned way too.
I got my Pen Tablet at the end of 2007. It's Genius G-Pen 450 4x5.5 inches. It gets the job done though sometimes, I don't know why, the tablet stops detecting the strokes so I have to unplug and then plug again the thing. I use it rarely probably because it's hard for me to get used to. I mean, normally I look at my hands when I'm drawing but with the tablet I have to look in the screen. I know that there are Pen Tablets(which cost a lot) that look like a plasma screen on which you can draw but I don't need it. The Pen Tablet I have is enough for me.
