Ive actually seen very little of the Ultraman series/ films, but I think he is an icon just as much as Godzilla is, but has more 'cheese' appeal!
Dont think I could ever take him seriously, but he's uber cool in a 'so bad, its good' way!

Nice pics - ill have to hunt those statues down and pose with them.
There is one outside an arcade somewhere in Asakusa too.

Cmon Danny - sod Star Wars - get an Ultraman costume next!!

Ive always thought that he was pretty cool drawn up anime style. Ive seen some of the old movies where hes fighting godzilla n stuff & they were pretty cool. way better then godawful crap like power rangers i mean for f**ks sake cant they kill it off already? its totally crap. all the martial arts n stuff in it are so overated & acted out by annoying teenagers who have the abllity to morph into peices of poo. jesus christ in a kfc you'd think the newer generations would have itleast got something right by now but no! bring in some jackie chan or jet lee!!! or mr miyagi from karate kid! anything is better then power rangers. so ultra man gets 2 thumbs up for me. f**king classic character also pretty iconic like sonic the hedgechog was to sega :) good stuff

If u have never ever watch Ultraman when young, it will be rather difficult for you to get into it when you are an adult.

Ultraman is basically the same as Godzilla and Sentai kinda of stuff, they are meant for kids, and for those adults who have watched the older ver when they were kids.

I love Ultraman when I was little. It's still pretty good now.

I think my first was Ultraman Tiga. It's hard to like it when you're older without seeing it as a kid.

My mom actually liked it too. She used to buy Ultraman Dyna VCDs to watch if she missed an episode on TV.

To V1lt R: You are somehow right and wrong at the same time.

Ultraman is one of the major characters (if not the one) that have influenced the Sentai genre (including "Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers").

He is a legend, he is one of the pioneers of the genre, but most of all he represents the true, original wild imaginative spirit that only Japanese people can give us (not that lame Power Rangers show, which is simply a more or less failed adaptation aimed to the American young public). Including fighting against weird, ugly, stupid aliens with wacky superpowers.

If I had the chance to watch his adventures when I was a kid, I think I would have been a fan. Maybe.
(At least I had Choudenshi Bioman and Space Sheriff Gavan back then).

Dang, I just feel nostalgic about my Golden Age right now, thanks to you Danny... (lol)

    By the way,

To Huk and Hayden, I totally agree with both of you.

There is this little touch of magic which disappears when you grow up... I think this is called innocence.

I don't believe you can get hooked up in that kind of things when you are an adult unless you have some suspension of disbelief or simply don't bother much with details (like those genuine martial arts moves that change a lot of things... But nothing is worse than bad acting, I admit).

This is all I could say. I will disappear for now, then. *Poof*

Nice 2.0 version, while I am at it.

I think they made an american version of ultraman many many years ago. It involved teenaged kids in high school fighting monsters in computer worlds. Forgot what it was called exactly. Although, I do agree that all the awkward movements is enough to fry half my brain.

Ultraman is kinda cool, so is kamen rider. I've never seen any Ultraman movie, and the series doesn't do justice to him, bad acting isn't good and it ruins the show.

    ウルトラマンがだいすき!

The Ultraman in the top picture is Ultraman Max, and the one in the middle is Ultraman Mebius. Together with (not shown in the photos) Ultraman Nexus, they're the best Heisei Ultraman series that returned the franchise to its M-78 roots.

Ultraman is one of the biggest thing that happened when I was a kid, and is still one of the most iconic tokusatsu hero till now. I am a big Ultraman fan. Its one of those shows that truly inspired a sense of wonder when you're growing up in the 70s

I suppose Ultraman is something that you like or you don't - seldom anything in between.

For movies, you might wanna check out the ULTRAMAN the Movie from 2004 - that's from the N-Project series, which is like an Elseworlds tale. Last year's Ultraman Mebius and the Ultra brothers movie is one of the best Ultraman movie ever made-but i guess it appeals more to fans.

I love Ultraman because its more 燃え than 萌 :)

    SCHWATCH!!!!

Kamen Rider >>>> Super Sentai >>>> Nearly everything else >>>>>>> Ultraman.

I've watched a little of Max (which I think that particular Ultraman is from) and I didn't find the acting *too* bad. At least, not any worse than your average show. I think most people think "Ok, this is a kid show" and automatically expect it to suck, so it does to them.

I think I've seen those statues in a Hard Gay episode before.. LOL? As for Ultraman, I don't think he's anything like Power rangers or Super Sentai. He's unique and.. well, different? I can't say I'm a fan, though..

I watched the original Ultraman and Ultraseven series when I was a kid (long time ago). Was a big success in my former country, El Salvador and other Latin American countries.

The Ultraman TV show is actually more for little kids. That's probably why the acting isn't so good and the effects and stuff aren't that good. It's kind of like Power Rangers. I used to watch it when I was like five or something and I thought it was so cool but now I look at it and think, "I thought this was cool?" Because it's more for little kids, I think most people on DC.com can't appreciate it as much as little kids.

    Just passing through.

Ultraman is 3rd in my list of Top 3 Favorite Tokusatsu Franchises. The other two being Kamen Rider & Super Sentai. Watched the original series, Great, Powered, Ace, Tiga, Dyna, Cosmos, Nexus and Max. Never finished Gaia (cancelled after several episodes here, no word of a re-dub).

I used to watch the American remake of it when I was young, also had a big action figure of it (compared to the average action figures) and it was my favourite toy for a long time. It was very posable and was able to stay in that pose, only thing lacking posability was the hands and feet though. Though I liked Masked Rider in general more, yet to watch either's Nihonjin version but will watch Kamen Rider when I'm done with Victory and Turn-A Gundam

Ultraman is alive and well in Japan, and a part of my family activities, so to speak. I decided I'd give my 4-year old son an education in "the classics" so he's been weaned on the original Ultraman series, among other things. I don't care much for the most recent series. We regularly go to the Ultraman base in Lazona, Kawasaki, where the kids get to be Sentai troopers and there's always an Ultra hero and villain putting on a show and ready to take pictures ^^
