I absolutely couldn't live without my satnav, I'd never get anywhere. I can't imagine how people manage with maps, even with sites like multimap - my satnav always knows exactly where I am and will redirect me if I go the wrong way. It knows when there's traffic on the motorway and can find me a faster route. If I decide I want to stop off at a fast food restaurant, it'll run to google and pull up a list of them and then take me there. Man, satnavs rule!
Also, Inglourious Basterds is awesome. Doesn't take itself too seriously, and goes for atmosphere rather than a super-fast-paced plot. The opening scene is one of the most awful, menacing, terrifying things I've ever seen and it mostly features a nazi commander chatting to a farmer, smoking a pipe and drinking milk for 15 minutes. The atmosphere is amazing.

The plant is a silk tree. When I lived at home, I was their gardener, the silk tree and the Japanese maples were my two favorite trees. The silk tree has very lovely flowers, kinda like feathers.

Awesome, I'd been wondering when there would be another one of these.
I hear Inglorious Bastards is a good movie, I've been wanting to see it for awhile.
and the Star Wars toys look pretty sweet, they probably cost a fortune though, I envy people who can afford those.

Thanks for a new stack of good "A Week in Tokyo" pictures.
Always love to watch them.
About a carnavi, i have one, but it's not implented in my car. I don't use it very often, but it's helpful for me, who has problems to get to Never-known-before-places.
Would like to have some Snow but here there is only rain.
that plant is probably a mimosa : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mimosa
if you disturb the leaves they'll close up like a clam.
I'm guessing mimosa too... My girlfriend agrees.

I live in a high rise apartment near a busy street. No problems for me as my walls are thick and generally my wall is near the dining room (The other side is also my neighbours dining room. So not much interference for me, except when they are having fights.

With all the food posts, I was wondering: Do you ever eat at Pepper Lunch? Granted, it can be a bit heavy and greasy, but if ever there was a food that you would die happy from, Pepper Lunch would be it. (There are 3 in Akiba, and they are always busy.)

At school, we have tons of antibacterial gel dispensers all around. There's at least one dispenser on each floor of a department building, and they're in all the bathrooms, too. I carry a little antibacterial hand gel bottle with me that smells more like nectarines. I get tired of the alcohol-like smell :(
Lots of my friends are getting the flu this season, it's kind of freaking me out :( Luckily, I haven't gotten sick yet since I got my seasonal flu shot back in September, but I've yet to actually receive my H1N1 shot. There are shortages all around -__-;;
I want to go back to IKEA! I think my parents might get more DETOLFs for their own use. Mom has quite a breakable figure collection of her own ^^;

With your hair under a hat in most of these photos, how do you deal with the "hat hair" condition? I assume your normal haircut sort of camouflages it - but what happens when you have to take off the headgear?
Also, very glad that this entry has come out. I've missed the week in Tokyo posts. When are you going to upload the one with your dad?
image 82391 - Nice pose with Chris.
image 82392 - I don't normally need to sync the three machines I work with (home PC, office PC, and my netbook). However, I spent November caught up in National Novel Writing Month. I simply used a secured USB drive to save all the drafts to, then backed up on all three machines as well as to an online storage space. (Yes, I was paranoid; yes, I'll do it again next year.)
image 82404 - I...I hope you didn't have a hard time cleaning up after this shot. Kyouka looks like she got dipped in....
image 82409 - Yep, we get these hand spray things too. Of course, antibacterial hand gels took the local market by storm some five years ago and now it's rarer to see someone without them.
image 82419 - I bet I'd be a frequent customer at the IKEA too if it only existed in my country. As it is, I have to content myself with drooling over the catalogs.

Inglourious Basterds is probably one of the best films I have ever watched. You have to watch it, especially if you liked kill bill and other tarantino films.

Great article as always Danny! Makes me want to go back to Japan even more! And, as always I would assume, the food looks absolutely delicious. If there's anything I miss from my previous trips to Japan, it is surely the great food.
Anyways, Inglorious Basterds is an excellent movie. I don't know of you've watched any Tarantino films (Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, Kill Bill, etc) in the past, but if you have and have enjoyed them, you will like Inglorious Basterds. Tarantino's style is unique and it may be a bit of a put off, but you should give it a shot. :D

It's relatively easy to get around this city without a GPS--the streets basically form a giant grid, so much so that people even bring up cross streets in regular conversation. "Where's your school?" "Oh, it's down on 23rd Avenue and __." Or whatever. It's like landmarks don't exist here.
It's another story in some of the other places I've lived though. San Diego for instance. In fact, before GPS, I remember everyone I knew had a Thomas Guide. It's a giant book of maps of the city that gets sent out every year just like a phone book. Usually comes out around the same time too. It's indispensable there. Almost all the streets curve like crazy, at least a quarter of them are one-way, a lot of them have one name going one direction and another going the other, and they're constantly bisected by canyons. Gorgeous city otherwise though!
As for antibacterial spray, I've seen a lot of stores here with antibacterial wipes instead.

-Steve Nagata exposed. I remember he blurred the his face in his pics.
-Yeah, we got anti-bac dispensers here, but they are usually in the form of soap dispenser, not spray bottles.
-Those plates of food at Ikea are enormous. Very different here. Probably why Ikea cafe here isn't busy.
-I believe Steven Segal use to live in Japan before becoming a action star.
-Inglorious Bastards was ok. Sorta loses it's momentum half way thru.
-Nice Bayonetta model. Would luv to meet her. I could see Alodia cosplaying her. Probably pretty similar to her G.I. Joe Baroness look.

BTW...re Mac synchronisation. LaCie's Silverkeeper (free from their website from memory) I think will do what you are trying to do what you are ... that or Carbon Copy Cloner (www.bombich.com) which is also free
http://www.zonjineko.com
Silverkeeper is less than average but Carbon Copy Cloner may work for you if you have the Macbook Air's HD as your clone drive. Issue is that I am 99% sure the Air hasn't got the firewire port to enable target disk mode to happen.
SuperDuper is possibly a better way to go for incremental backups or cloning.
I think your best bet is to keep an external mobile USB drive (320gb mobile LaCie for example) as a full incremental clone via Super Duper off your main machine.
Then when you go away, you plug that mobile USB drive in to your Air and hold down the right keys on bootup to force it to boot off the external drive rather than internal and then you'll be working on a perfect copy off your home machine.
When you get back home you run an incremental clone back the other way if needed. You would need to make sure you are running the same OS on both of course. Time to update your other machine to SL (^_^).
I moved all my email to Gmail a while back (8 years worth) and got a Drobo hooked up so I can access all my files back home via ftp. That has made it much much easier to travel as I have 100% access to any file I need at home plus you can use Gmail mobile on the iPhone to search any email you have.

Danny's blog posts can sometimes be like buses in England: You wait and wait and wait, and tonnes of info come along at once.
So many things to comment on, so this post is gonna get as random as Danny's photos. ^^
1. Are Nendoroids easy to clean? As I see you casually placing Puchi Kyoka on the curry sauce like that.
2. While they only have makeshift handsprays in Japan, in where I live, the handspray device are fixed onto the walls of most buildings, even residential ones.
3. Damn, your IKEAs have huge restaurants! Here we only have small kiosks selling hotdogs and ice cream at bargain prices.
4. LOL at photo of the guy who fills his bathroom with tonnes of Star Wars toys.
5. Inglourious Basterds is a MUST WATCH. Though don't be misled by Brad Pitt on the poster, his screen time is limited at best, for the real star is actually the Nazi SS Hans Landa played by Austrian actor Christoph Waltz. You'll soon realize why he won the 2009 Cannes Best Actor award when you see his performance.

Thanks Danny - I really enjoy your Tokyo photo walks. Makes we want to be back there tomorrow.
BTW with these long photo posts and no heights/widths on your images, trying to write a comment is next to impossible as the page re-renders itself as each photo fully loads and it works out the height/width and pushes down everything on the page - thought it was going to trigger my epilepsy any minute!
Might be worth adding height/width to the pics in your code to enable the page to render it's height as soon as it loads.

Bayonetta is a great game! Just completed it yesterday, and it's the best action game i had played in this generation of gaming. And Danny from that picture it looks like 1 more hit and you are dead :P
I do like to keep boxes of my electronics stuffs, especially gaming related and my PC related stuffs. ^^
I live in a hi-rise apartment building and can only hear my neighbors if they play music very (and I mean VERY) loud. I highly recommend it, although Tokyo is much more expensive than where I live.
BTW, Danny, I would LOVE to see what your apartment looks like!

Thanks again for the upload Danny. I love the week in Tokyo posts. The great pictures of the food eaten and Tokyo itself gives me a better understanding of the country and the life on your side of the planet. Thanks!

Wow is Bayonetta really that good! Now I can't wait until its released in Australia.

Well, Inglorious Basterds...Had to be the worst war movie I've seen. It was horrible.
On the topic of keeping boxes, I cut them up and store them in ziplock bags inside huge plastic cases with their respective figure, so far only kits.

I quite enjoyed Inglorious Basterds. It was a very different Quentin Tarantino movie.
Carnavi is not installed, but I do have a suction cap attachment for the windshield when I want to use it.
So how does Kyouka taste with the curry sauce? Very nyummy?

Lol Danny... That curry you throw Puchi Kyouka into, looks really real, but a closer inspection shows that it's those sample curry dishes you would see outside a restaurant which is for display purposes... Haha, don't tell me you actually did throw lil Kyouka into a real one?
And man, Ikea has one of the nicest meatballs i've ever had XD

Im actually quite suprised how well Ikea batteries hold up - They don't feel like it's pushing much current but hell, do they last and last.

The plant looks like some kind of fern, but I'm no plant expert
Chris-san should not drink lots of soda, bad for teeth and stomach (I had problems with my stomach)
¬_¬ Also, hope Danny-san won't get problems with pictures of wife loading the car. Feminist are dangerous animals. =P
^-^ Adding that number of japanese dishes pictures is... cruel. I'm hungry and I want to try. =S May be Danny-san can make a website like Yelp!. May there's already one.

Still waiting for the January release of Bayonetta for the 360. I could have bought the PS3 version and imported but the PS3 version is too horrible to contemplate...

I was keeping my eye out for you when I was in Tokyo couple weeks ago. Hehe was hoping I'd bump into you and say Hi :)
I live on the 12th floor of a condo and it's not that bad but when my balcony door is open, I can hear my neighbors talking very clearly and vice versa...As for sushi, have you tried Sushi Taichi in Ginza? It's totally amazing. I was there in early Nov and it was too good! Miss it!!! I love chutoro...so sad that maguro is now facing extinction though.
