I don't want to be pregnant! i just want the pizza!

That's an issue and a solution. Fat people have problems getting pregnant. In fact quite a lot of people, who wants to get help to get a child are told to lose weight and 10-20 kg later they don't need help anymore.

I was actually talking about women donors in general, not you specifically ^^

          You left out sister :P

Your point is still valid though. Giving blood helps whoever needs it (which could even be yourself next month!)

Helping a specific person... that makes me think of my grandfather. Many moons ago blood couldn't be stored and somebody had a nasty accident and was taken to a hospital. He needed blood so they called for one with the right bloodtype (my grandfather) and I think he was even picked up by the police. He sad in a chair and got a needle into his arm. That needle didn't go to a bag, but a small pipe, which took the blood directly to the patient in the bed next to him. This means my grandfather had to sit there while they operated on that guy and hear everything. He couldn't see as they had put up a curtain (good idea). A nurse/assistant/whatever provided something to drink and stuff to my grandfather so he didn't become ill from blood loss (I don't think they only took half a litre). I have no idea about what had happened to the poor guy or if he survived.

Maybe people should think about this when they wonder if they in a quiet speed will give blood today. Modern needles are also somewhat less painful due to improved production techniques.

Oh and my grandfather didn't get any problems for leaving work without warning like that ^^

I've only donated once before. there was a red cross van at our school, we could sign up for a time slot and go donate. I was okay for the first 5 minutes or so, but I collapsed in front of a computer lab and freaked a bunch of people out... I somehow made it back to my apartment, but man, it kinda deterred me from doing it again...

The facility looks like it's gonna be cool though, I'd probably go to it if there was one in my neck of the woods.

Actually, there'd be a problem with people dying of blood shortage...

I saw a paramedic on TV a few years ago. He talked about arriving at a car crash. Some guy had been speeding and while overtaking he had a frontal collision with a lorry and he was in really bad shape. He had lost both legs (ouch!) and was losing blood rapidly when they arrived so they started giving him a lot of blood really fast while firefighters cut open the car to get him out. Eventually they had given him like 15 litres and he still died later that day. The paramedic then said that they all knew his chance of survival was close to 0%, yet by law they were not allowed not to help him. He requested a debate about priority of blood since they had too little in storage if they should help people like that.

For the record I think it's enough to give a half or a whole litre when somebody suffers from a blood loss, providing it's not a severe accident. It's possible that this guy could have used up the blood to save 20 people and it didn't even saved him. I say that's quite understandable that we should have a debate about this. The debate never showed up though so they are still forced to give blood to everybody with a blood loss at first in first served principle.

Luckily the news had a positive story the other day. For unknown reasons the number of blood donors has increased noteworthy and there aren't any risk of lack of blood at the moment. They still want even more though as they can store it for later use and you never know if there is a train wreck or something (not likely with our safety standard, but still they should be prepared).

They should tab the blood bags as "otaku".
So the receiver is conscious that he/she is receiving blood with a high content of cholesterol, makudonarudo fat and coke. After the transfusion, the patient will feel the need to visit this site, buy dolls, go to some places called akiba, buy gadgets, read tolkien, and so forth...

In Singapore, we used to get a card that gave us free basic medical care and priority in queues if we were regular blood donors... they've since discontinued that practice, maybe cos the blood transfusion service feels that we are to donate blood for altruistic reasons alone, so all donors get now is a bright armband, and free milo and biscuits... HAHA...

Donated in Oz once too during the bushfire appeals, and they give the same edibles to the donors...

Don't think showing ecchi stuff to entice donors would work... unless they stick the needle where the blood is "most concentrated" @ that moment... hyuk hyuk hyuk...

To date, I have donated around 2+ gallons. I had to take a break due to developing a Type A-1 Anti-Virus and they did not clean the blood (at the time). Besides, I do it for the sake of helping others, and stuff like movies and food are just added bonuses. :3

They do that based on a statistical risk of undetected infections. Giving blood should save life, not take it away by adding infections to already weak people.

I highly recommend getting that iron issue fixed for your own sake. Considering iron is used to transport oxygen I would guess low icon count would result in less oxygen in the body, which in turn makes you tired. You might have energy to do much more if such an issue is history.

I haven't tested my iron count. However considering the amount of liver I eat it can't be bad ^^
If you eat liver once a week (or was it just once a month?) then you get your iron needs covered. I think it's spinach, which is also rich in iron. It's not like it's tricky to find the food with the stuff you need. You just need to know what to look for.

Bet a lot of people would love to be 'generous' to donate blood just to get the taste of this cool place for one day! :)
But in saying that, blood-giving shouldn't be about getting the best pleasures out of this 'environment' experience. It should be about charitable causes and serving goodwill for the community. I just hope this new facility is supposed to achieve more of the latter...

Luckily for you you can handle AB-, A-, B- and O-, so you aren't out of luck if they run out of AB-. It's still not a bad idea to donate though. I think your body will accept AB- better than the other ones (the body always tries to counter foreign blood to some degree)

Interesting idea. If you can manage Japanese well enough (that is for sure a demand here!) then it's the question of "interesting gaijin" vs "fear that some otaku would be scared away by a gaijin". I don't think anybody here can answer your question.

If they want to hire you, then it looks like a good way to come to Japan. It could be an interesting place to work for you, it provides a stable income at a place which is likely to stay there for a while (relatively low risk of being fired) and it's in a part of Japan which aren't far from Akihabara (I imagine you would go there eventually). What more could you ask for? ^^

The futuristic design reminds me a lot of games where there are underground research labs, like that of F.E.A.R., where such a futuristic place suddenly becomes hell.

It would be funny if some sort of freak accident occurred and it becomes a real life horror situation like in the Alien films, or Resident Evil. Killer PVC figures instead of aliens or zombies. Or people infected by the figures and turned into human-figure hybrid-thing bent on destruction. The futuristic designs of this facility is a fitting setting for such an occurrence.

Imagine blood splatters on the walls and glass. Those figures covered in blooooood. LOL

I've only donated twice so far but I will donate with the next oportunity and will do it regualry from then on.
When we doante blood, we get free sandwiches and coffee, cola and juice. The caffeine will help your circulatory system to get up and running again. Plus they really take great care of those who donate and those who donate for the first time are given a little welcome/thank you gift.
No money for donating and I wouldn't have it any other way. I do it because it's the right thing to do.

For those who say that they are too afraid or have other excuses not to, watch this movie by the German red cross:
    Pinioned
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=50fu3otQKtE

Without blood, we can not help.
(that's what it says in the end)

This ad is played everytime and everywhere in any cinema in Germany (afaik) before the movie starts, the only exeptions being movies for little kids.

I'm not sure I like that movie. Sure I get the message, but I get the feeling that it says "if you for whatever reason haven't donated blood yet, then it's your fault that somebody just died". I don't like the concept of getting people to volunteer by making them feeling guilty.

My blood vessels can't handle needles on a regular basis so I shouldn't donate blood and it hurts me really bad when I have to give a blood sample for analysis. I know I feel more pain than other people when exposed to the same thing (I actually had it tested!) but the pain with needles is likely to do with my blood vessels. I guess I will never see this place for real... oh well.

I'm a regular blood donor- I donate blood once every 3 months (that's the legal limit over here).
Since I'm pretty much a parasite in this world, I figured I could be of some use to the community. With top quality blood (they say I have a blood of an athlete, even though I drink too much! O.O), I'm more than welcome at the local Red Cross. Needless to say, here in Serbia, there are no fancy high-end Gundam cockpit seats, or any other high-tech blood draining equipment... We still use collapsable chairs from the 80s, but that doesn't stop me from going there whenever nessessary, because, my 10 minutes are another person's whole life!

Reminds me a bit of the labs from the first Resident Evil movie. We have blood drives at my work every month. They drive a "Bloodmobile" to the front lobby doors. Inside the "Bloodmobile" is the donation stations which are pretty nice standard sterile looking hospital fare. I have yet to donate blood though. Does everyone know their blood type? I found out mine a few years back when I was having some lab work done, O Negative.

What are your blood types? I have heard blood type compatibility is still a big thing in Japan, similar to astrological signs in other countries.

The donation center is more like a triage center than anything.
But we get items like fresh pastries to go with our vending machine cookies and crackers. Plus a selection of juices, water, coffee and teas. And for some odd reason, the local girl scout organization donates some of their cookies so that every donor receives a box of cookies of their choice.

You had your blood tested and you didn't get your blood type?

Luckily very little blood is needed to learn the blood type. You just need to pinch yourself with a needle to make a single drop appear. That's enough for such a test. It's such a simple test that we once did it on ourselves in biology class ^^

What's the qualifications for blood donation in Japan? Does it have to be Japanese-only plasma?

No. The spaceship has a plasma converter in engineering ^^

Don't say such a thing. Now the all mighty Kremvomites might hate the human race. After all it sounds very beautifully in Kremvomitian. You shouldn't insult other races or languages, specially when they have the power to blow up the planet >_<

The place seems very futuristic. And I think it should, cause it is hygienic for blood giving.

There was one occasion at school where the Red Cross would trade a pint of ice cream for a pint of blood. Best deal I seen so far for donating blood. That place looks cool, I would go donate blood just to take a look around.

Very impressive facility. The genius behind this design is just that, GENIUS. If I lived in the area, I no doubt would visit when I could and donate.

The only time I donated blood was about 10 years ago during a blood drive at High school. I said "wtf" when I saw the size of the needle( but didnt pass out or freak). Afterwards I had cookies. My main goal was to use it as an excuse to get out of class. Unfortunately for me, my designated time was about 5-10 minutes before lunch break. DOH!

Always meant to donate again, but not at an inconvenience to myself. They do blood drives at my college every so often. I will likely stop in if I am on campus for class that day. But yea, like so many others, here we just get the cookies/crackers and juice.

In return I get a chocolate milkshake and all the cookies and cheese and biscuits and fruit cake that you can eat, and the knowledge that I may have saved up to three lives per donation.

The combination of concepts... and the location... is far too surreal!

But like that big splash caption in the Linebarrels manga says:

    "Reality surpasses your imagination!"
