Here in Honolulu you are not allowed to ride your bike on the sidewalk. You have to ride it on these tiny bike lanes (about 10 inches across) that are on the road with the cars. Very spooky and one of the reasons why I tend not to want to bike to my office downtown. In fact if police catch you they can give you a ticket ><

Wow they must really love Indian food. Now I feel lucky I get to eat it everyday. ^^

I don't have any unused computers, but I have a lot of unused parts. Lots of video cards, power supplies, CPUs, memory sticks, all laying about. I'm not planning on selling them though, because I always end up using them somehow, especially when I upgrade one machine or start a new build and re-use parts.

I daresay that I am a very good cook. If I didn't get an engineering degree, I probably would have gone into the restaurant industry or into catering, as I really enjoy cooking as well. A recipe category for figure.fm would be neat.

I never knew that dust can cause fires, I need to dust ever more now. I would love to own those glass shelves you have, they look so nice.

Dust is such a bother, I clean out under my desk every few days. I've yet to invest in a glass cabinet though so my figures will stay all clean and still be visible!
I really enjoy Korean food, probably because of the experiences i've had at their restaurants, generally nice people. I've seen quite a few 'otaku food' posts on figure.fm so maybe it would be worth to invest in a cooking/recipes branch. I also enjoy doing some cooking, most of the time it's only when I have to though.
Riding bikes around here, people usually ride them on the road. Although a few times when I was in the city, I spotted some people with bikes being pulled over by police, I assumed it was because they were riding their bikes on the footpaths.
I wouldn't mind a few GSG promo posters, they look so good. Is it meant to be Fillet-o-Ebi or Ebi Fillet-o?

Used computers? We have a recycling program here for all electronics. Unfortunately, it means we're also charged a environmental fee for any new electronics purchased.

I have to admit. Our KFC actually looks tastier and bigger. Must be the steroid plumped up chickens.

We have tonnes of variety when it comes to food here. That seems to be people favorite pastime to go out to eat.

Cyclist here are suppose to ride on the road and obey the same rules as automobiles, but they never do and some a menaces on the road doing whatever they please. I respect their right to ride, but they have to respect the laws.

I try to dust everything once week at least. For figures also use a brush or compressed air, once in a while a damp cloth with some mild detergent, nothing abrasive if a figure has a speck on it or so. Try to get rid of dust in corners around wires too since it's just not good for your equipment.

Interesting article. And about riding bikes in my kingdom - actually I am not sure where should you be driving, but I am sure that whatever the right answer is, there will be a lot of exceptions to the rule as always.

I didn't cleaned behind my TV since I painted the room white some years ago.
It's heavy and isn't easy to clean. But there is only the wires.
The electrical deiveses are on the desktop.

I was just wonderin...when you do the twice a week dust removin thing, usually you end up doin that and only that, right? I mean, when I have to do that, I noticed it's kinda time-consumin...and they arent too much, too.
Also, the oily question, an Hong Kong guy once told me it's caused by humidity, could be?

Dust is really the number killer of IT n electronic device no matter how hard we try to get rid of it on daily basis.

Another nice Week in Tokyo post. It seems you have a lot of secret projects that you're working on right now. Looking forward to when the curtain is pulled back and all is revealed. ^^

All this food and i just crawled out of my bed... arrr *drool* ^^;

Computers... to much for a girls room i supose. :/
Right now i run a MacBook Pro 17" for work and communication apps and ofc being mobile, a big gaming PC, a 4,7TB RAIDZ2 OpenSolaris Fileserver, a DELL PowerEdge ESX Server which is mere calculating power to run virtual machines as i have their data on my fileserver via iSCSI, a old Laptop i used beofrei had the MBP, the battery is dead (i think the winter cold killed it) though other then that it's still fine and lastly a old box with WinXP on it so i can still use that Minolta GDI laser printer (driver issues)... not gona buy a new one till i move next year.
That makes 6 machines, of which 2 are hardly used.

That dust issue is really nasty, all my cables are pretty think and "bunny secure" stored, it's hard to dust those areas off but so far i have been lucky. Never had any fire issues due dust, but i can imagine it can happen rather fast.
I usualy do the dusting thing of the troublesome areas once a month along with opening my machines and dusting them off in the inside as well, despite filters on the cases dust still gets in. :s

when i got to kyoto- i wished i had my longboard- from what i saw of it, the place looked very ideal for skating, but tokyo not so much

I dust the figures out in the open once a week and my detolfs are very dust resistance so haven't had to dust any inside there. My daughter is in a display too so she doesn't need dusting ^^ I've notice when I've had her outside though she attracts dust like crazy ;;

Bikes here have their own lane. If there is no lane(which is extremely rare in this city) then they ride on the street with cars.

Always enjoy reading your 'Week in Tokyo' articles, and I lol'd at the blended egg, bacon and tomato pancake. Also in Australia bicycles are ridden alongside cars on the road with a (I think) 1m gap between one another.

First time i'v heard of a shrimp burger

I haven't needed to clean my dollfies yet. Scared of getting them dusty D:, They live in my Detolf and wardrobe for now.. i just give their clothes a flick when they do get a little dusty.

Dust is a collector's worst nightmare. I keep my anime items in their respective boxes, or else covered with a plastic bag or else displayed in a display case but never out and uncovered.

I have a Dell Inspiron 8100 that i don't use the last 3 years but i keep it in my wardrobe because it was my first computer so i am emotionally connected with it.

Although,to tell you the truth in general i don't like to throw things away even if i don't use them.For example i keep all the boxes from the things i buy(figures,pc parts etc)

Here in Germany there are separate roads for cars, pedestrians and bikers, you can sometimes even encounter traffic lights extra for bikes

Reading this article made me think whether I should dust the back of my desk once in a while too since I don't really want to have a bonfire in my house ^^;

You have so many computers Danny, so which one do you use for maintaining this site, edit photos and everything else?
You can fit many more figures on the table when some computers is gone ^w^.
My win 95 with big monitor went to the junkyard, win 98 with bigger monitor as well.
Now I have a pc from 2004 or 2005 and imac ^w^, and I use them :D.

I can't believe how many computers you have you don't use. I only have a laptop which is unused. It was my main computer for about 4 years before I went back to desktop PCs. My next computer is going back to laptop, a nice macbook. I also want a notebook, they seem really convenient for stuff like HTML and other small tasks.

OOH~ katsu is one of my favorite dish. Really like it if it really has a good amount of potato in it.
I still dust mine once a week. The only problems that i end up incurring is with my Banpresto Figure Feldt from the anime Gundam00 for it seems dust loves to hang around her more often.

I'd surely love to visit GSC Offices someday. Is the office open to the public or do they have this museum thingy where visitors get to view their stuff (aside from TFS Event).

It seems Indian Food is common in Tokyo ^_^ . Here in KL , International is easy to find , if you know the way . Indian and Chinese Food is common in Malaysia .

Bad experience with fire? Not quite yet, but do had some surprise element. I was cooking with my bathrobe on, then suddenly a burst of fire spread through the sleeve, it was caused by the tiny cottons' thread on the first layer. Uninjured but was caught on surprise ^^;

Dusting all your lovely figure collections twice a week sure is a bit time consuming~~

Have you ever been to Korea? L.A. has the largest Korean population outside of Korea and so definitely has great Korean food, but you're closer to Korea than L.A. =)

Just washed Rin's clothes after being rather dusty and her visiting con's. As for the girls, I use soapy water and a sponge then rinse them off with a wet and dry sponge.

The dusting down figurines and dolls is one of the main reasons stopping me from getting them - too time consuming and it's really not my thing. It's really great that you have time for them with your prolly very busy schedule.

We have a lot of computer hardware unused here at home. Otherwise we tend to get new computers when one of us changes their own computer. So we trade parts and such :p

How much are you going to sell the iMac mini for? And are you going to sell it international? Or only in Japan?

Cause I´m a bit interested in getting a imac mini to try out the OS since I don´t think I can just switch, but with the prizes that Apple sells their products for then I have no way of getting one since they are to expensive in regards of the hardware that you get.

Nice post though. It gives of a feeling of jealousy from me since I´d love to spend time in Japan and experience it. But alas, no money for that.

image 78419 - Yes, we have a good wealth of choice for international food in the Philippines: restaurants aplenty and the hotels also do food fests from different cuisines regularly. My own favorite non-local cuisines are Japanese, Chinese, and Korean.

When riding my bike, I usually aim for the route where there isn't many people and ride on the pavement. I do sometimes ride on the road but tend to get nervous when there are fast moving cars behind me.. ^^'

I love to cook! But most of the time my food tastes better than it looks... I guess I need to work on presentation.

I was actually wondering how people kept their dollfie clothes clean... I would imagine you don't put them in the washer with your own clothes, but I'd be afraid of breaking the delicate fabrics if I hand washed the clothes...

I live in Holland and bikes are the most popular way of travel~ Usually bikes go on the same road as cars, but some roads have a special marked side in red, or just special cycling roads, next to pedestrian roads.

The weather here is WARM, I'm looking forward to the Fall. for the last three months its been in the 90s somtimes triple didgits. I would love to see Japan but I must be content with Danny's photo album. I.ve been cooking for years, every holiday wifey gets the day off and I cook the holiday feast and clean up after, she loves it. Thanks for the website Danny it is awesome.

"A Week In Tokyo" is my favorite thing to look at on your website! I really want to visit and one day possibly move over there. Seems scary though to move to another country but looks amazing over there!

No spare computers here, just my iMac.

We have lots of international food in Brisbane, particularly Chinese, Thai, Japanese, Indian.

Bicycles here are mostly ridden on the road and on dedicated bikeways where possible, but you are allowed to ride on the footpath too. Always have to give way to pedestrians. The bikeways can be a small lane on the side of the road or a pathway through parks etc.

Old computers, 2 working 1 dead Atari 800xls, 1 working Atari 130XE, my 1st 'PC' computer the IBM PS1 Consultant which came from a floor display in 1992 and even included viruses on the tiny 20 Meg HDD. Its in pieces naturally and the old slide metal cases are very heavy and can cut you all over the place. It was a IBM DX25 with the DX50 chip added. Doubt it works since back then unplugging the computer before changing out parts wasn't a way of life. Still have both the boxes too. Anyway, they stay in heaps and piles, here and there, under that table and over there. Only computers get pitched when they totally fail, do have a recycler collector here but sometimes the fried motherboard gets torn to pieces and direct to the trash because of the rage of it frying.

I cook and I'll post food pix! LOL when I got my first digital camera, I would stop my friends from eating when I go out to eat with them so I can take a photo of the food :P After a while they would wait for me to take a photo before they start :P

In my home, I'm the short order cook. My wife makes the holiday meals. I run a fairly basic menu varying between pasta dishes and rice dishes all week long, and alternate with eating out when we go into Escanaba for shopping. I close the kitchen on Sundays. We eat leftovers or sandwiches then.

Thanks for the long and interesting post, Danny. Regarding dust, you're right it does cause a lot of fires with the right dust/moisture ratio. Fortunately, haven't had any fires from it here except for the occasional power supply flame out. But the recent US electrical code requires arc fault circuit interrupters (AFCI)on bedroom outlet circuits. Last year the code was further modified to include other dust prone areas like the like the living room and dining room circuits as well. They work similarly to ground fault circuit interrupters (GFCI) (commonly seen in wet areas-baths, kitchens, exterior locations) but instead of sensing small differences in current flow and tripping the circuit before someone can be electrocuted, the AFCI senses arcs and cuts the juice to prevent dust fires.
Don't know if they are required or available in Japan, but they can be retro fitted into existing circuit breaker panels.

OOO definitely launch a recipe site!!! I am moving to Japan soon with my fiance to go to Temple University and (hopefully) get a job soon after in marketing and media/communications.
I WOULD LOVE to learn some recipes to cook while I'm there so I'm not just eating out all the time and completely lost when I'm at the grocery store. Last time I was in Japan for a few weeks I just ate out all the time and I know that can be bad for my wallet.
In fact, a lesson about the best things to buy at the grocery would be fantastic too. You always have fantastic photos and I know it would be great.

Mmmmmm....so much food has made my hungry..^_^ By the way, I can't imagine bike on the footpath. Here in the "Kingdom" (it really is one, actually) of Spain, there aren't any rules or regs., but the most usual thing would be for bicycles to use the road, along with the cars, motorbikes, vans, lorries, etc...(It tends to be easier for the person on the bike and the pedestrians, both)
Oh! I have a question for you Danny, or for anyone else who can answer me: What exactly is that extra button to the right of the space bar on Japanese keyboards for?
(It's something that has been at my curiosity for to long... ^_^)
