First a gundam now this O_o...no offence but shouldn't Japans government be putting their money to proper use?
Student/Evil Overlord
The Gundam AFAIK was privately funded. This one is partly funded by the government and through a fundraising project by the citizens. Whatever it is, the Japanese gov't is doing a relatively good job in running the country so I think they deserve things like this monument (it is a permanent exhibit) from time to time.

I want to see a Macross VF in 1/1 scale ;_;

Japan's attempting to take over the world with giant robots! LOL
Student
what they don't tell you is that it these 1/1 scale "models" aren't really models, rather full scale robots to be used when Japan is invaded by alien monsters. (^_^)

Beat me to it. ^_^ A life size Evangelion would be even cooler then the RX-78-2 Gundam. Of course, an accurate one would be skyscrapper sized. ^^;
Will have to check out Tetsujin (Gigantor) when its complete. Haven't seen the anime but I love giant robots.

I'd love to see Eva too, and I think it'd be even more resonant and cooler than Tetsujin for most people.

More like, start on a real gundam and develope mobile suits. Starting with the more plausible Knightmare frames from Code Geass.

1:1 evangelion unit ? DO. WANT.

@NaKAhi70: I'm sure these a large percentage of the costs was from sponsors. Japanese government should earn quite a lot on this through tourism. I'm sure a lot of people who visit Japan would wanna pop by the area to have a look (and spend money in that area).
@yamada: That would be awesome if they constructed an Eva next. Maybe they will for advertising the possible release of the live action movie

a 1/1 scale VF-25 would be pretty awesome. would love to see a 1/1 Gurren Lagann too. an Eva seems like the next logical choice though.

I'm with you on the 1/1 VF-25.
My own next logical choice was running rather along the lines of the LFOs in Eureka Seven, but, yeah, everyone else wants the Eva :)

Tetesujin is too old for my taste. I remember seeing a few episodes as a kid, but nothing which makes me remember it clearly. I just want an EVA that looks like it's about to go berserk.

the japanese sure love their giant robots. Cant blame 'em giant robots are cool ^^
I gotta agree on wanting to see an EVA. Unfortunately, as insanely awesome as that would be, a 1/1 EVA would be ridiculously large.
I want to see more Gundams as well. Give me the Wing Gundam Zero from Endless Waltz please! :)

awesome O.o, but I prefer RX-78, I give my vote for an eva too!!!

I love this idea of public art. Here in the states, there have been themes like hearts in SF, sharks in San Jose and cows in another city. These installations are decorated by numerous artists and put up temporaryily. They are sometimes sold for charity. I have just returned from Philadelphia, where they have alot of whimsical public art like a giant clothes pin and game pieces like dominos and chess pieces. I would like to be able to see more 1:1 mech statues all over Japan. It would definitely make my next trip more interesting

South Korea will build a robot "bigger than Japanese.The program aimed at Korean Taekwon V, also known as Voltar the invincible, practically a tarot of the Great Mazinger Z Go Nagai, who fights with blows of taekwondo.The project plans to erect the colossal statue 364 feet high (about 111 meters) in the center of a large theme park called Robot Land in the metropolitan city of Incheon, Korea's third largest city and most important port on the west coast.
