Wow , an IronMan anime cool but this ruined the concept of the meaning of anime . Animes are suppose to be originated from Japan . The concept of Anime is to have an original story created by the Japanese .

I got news that Halo will be turned to an anime and this is just doesn't feel like Anime . Don't get me wrong , I love Ironman but turning it in to anime is like turning an Anime into a Live-Action Hollywood movie .

This is not "ruining" the concept of anime. Anime is still anime, always has been and always will be, regardless whether this exists or not.

If you want to call it "Animation where the concept has originated from elsewhere but has been animated by a japanese animation team in the visual style of anime therefore is not technically an actual anime" then by all means feel free to do so =]

Although there is no definite definition for a word such as "Anime" as it it's most basic form all it essentially means is Animation; and is used nothing more than as a median to encompass a broad spectrum of sub-genres originating from Japan. Perhaps this could be a border-line genre that exists neither as "Anime" or anything else.

American cartoons can be made from concepts that originated in Japan, that doesn't stop them from being "cartoons". Although the actual definition of cartoon is just a drawing with a funny gag, so by essence some Anime are indeed "Cartoons". Lucky Star for example, although being an anime, also fits the description for "Cartoon".

I guess what I'm saying is, don't get too hung-up on technicalities and words,
focus on the actual product at hand here:

This is an animation being made in Japan based on an American concept, so what?

Perhaps you should think up a new word to describe this genre of Animation. Like Animericu =o

True True and there are some American Cartoons who have anime-ish characteristics like Teen Titans , Totaly Spies , Martin Mystery ( my fave ^_^ ) and Kappa Mikey ( also My fave ) .

But Lucky Star to me doesn't fit the description for " Cartoon" and yes I should focus more on the plot instead of its product .

To my view , Cartoons are from America and Animes are from Japan but sometimes Americans make Anime-ish art styles .

I should judge an anime by its Moeness and its plot rather than where it comes from .

You had to accept the fact that Japanese animation are being watched way more than American/British animation. By doing this, more customres, revenues for the Western titles anc companies. And by the looks of it, it will be more refined than bash it up western cartoons. When we had watched even by one episode, we can already decide wether its a cartoon or an anime, afterall we had watched hundreds of anime to have certain expectations for new things like this. I'm just hopinh it will run long enought to able to see to the arc where te suit itself is alive and disagree with Tony Stark

We can also look forward to high quality figurine by Japanese manufacturers then, including all the armours Ironman had ever possessed, redesigned and all.

        So, go Ferumman.

I never said anything regarding which was being watched more.

My point was simply that whether this "Iron Man" series is Anime or not is irrelevant - we must look at the actual animation itself and judge it for what it is. If it's interesting to watch, who cares whether it's technically anime or not?

It's an animation being made in Japan, you could consider it an Anime "re-imagining" of Iron Man. As it seems that they have pretty much changed most of the concept to something new.

But there is middle ground between "Cartoon" and "Anime", the world is not black and white -

          Haruhi-chan suzumiya, for example:
It's a Japanese cartoon, It's a cartoon as it ticks all the boxes required to be classified as a "cartoon" - but it is also an Anime, as it ticks all the boxes to be classed as Anime too, both with visual and narrative style.

Cartoon is not about country of origin, it's a sub-genre of animation, where the main goal is to make people laugh.

Iron-Man is NOT a cartoon because it has nothing to do with making people laugh. Even the American version is not really a cartoon, as it's an action show.

"Action Animation" would be a more correct term to use regarding anything to do with Iron Man as the terms "Cartoon" and "Comic" are words with very specific meanings which have become genericized over time.

There are western animations that are not Cartoons in any way.
Just in the same way there are Japanese Anime which are also Cartoons.

Anyway yes, I look forward to this show! The animation looks very slick based on that trailer.

Anime IS JAPANESE! Do you want your anime to become like "Fred Flinstone or Scoobidoo?" Or that "Inhumanoids" please~ NO and have you seen the X-Men in the 90's? How about "Bots Master?" But anime (design, action and animation) and western storyline maybe - yes. America is trying too hard to copy anime but they failed.

        ...

I never said Anime was not Japanese, infact I believe I mentioned that several times in my posts...

I'll split what I said up into bullet points to make more concise:-

The Definition of Cartoon pretty much goes as follows:
        1. "a humorous or satirical drawing"

        2. "a film made by photographing a series of cartoon drawings to give the illusion of movement when projected in rapid sequence "

        - Not all animations from America are Cartoons.

        - Not all animations from Japan are Anime.

        - Some Anime are Cartoons and Anime simultaneously. If the purpouse of a given Anime is to be Satirical or Humorous it is also a Cartoon by definition.

        - A Japanese animation based on an American concept is not "Destroying Anime", for the following reasons:

        One experience cannot destroy another.
Whether you call this new IRON MAN show an Anime or not is irrelevant because:-
Anime will always be Japanese Animation, the fact that there are shows elsewhere that look like Anime does not change this. The fact that there are shows in Japan being based on American concepts does not change this.

Anyway, this Iron Man anime is being produced in Japan by an Anime studio.
It's not America trying to "Copy" Anime, but rather, cultural fusion.
Is cultural fusion really that bad, are you that scared of change?

I will make an analogy here to better explain myself, so bear with me:

Donner Kebab meat originates from Turkey, Pizza originates from Italy.

If I put Donner Kebab meat on a Pizza that destroys neither Donner Meat nor Pizza as both still exist in their own right - but rather I have created something new.

It is much the same with combining artistic cultures.

Whether you consider this Iron Man show Anime or not is just a technicality.
I consider it a cultural fusion, something new and exciting.

I must say that something are better if it remained the way as it is, as the so-called cultural fusion may receive negative responses from the viewers, taking the opposite path which it intends to walk on and eventually destroying the image of the original series.

Heh. Batman was a fun watch anime-styled, and I love this one too. Hopefully, Iron Man's awesomeness won't just be in the trailer alone.

You know, like buying a comic book because of its awesome cover art, only to be screwed over royally with its gods-awful contents (Image, you may be dead, but your sins still live on in forgotten comic book-filled boxes all over the world).

Seems like people don't get it. Okay. Listen up people.

Anime = any form of animation, not just animation from Japan. Example? Hayashibara Megumi-san no suki na beikoku no anime wa "Piinattsu" desu. If that does not convince you, in the anime section of "Quiz Magic Academy DS", they ask you questions of "Tom and Jerry" and not just questions from "One Piece".

With that said, am I interested in watching this? You bet. Don't forget people. Japan did work with "Ninja Turtles" ("Mutant Turtles" over there) before and look how that turned out to be.

for those that are confused by what mr. seija is talking about, "Hayashibara Megumi's favorite american anime is 'Peanuts'." And for further clarification (as if it really needs one), Hayashibara Megumi is a well celebrated voice actress for japanese anime and she has many fans, including me.

anime is the shortened version of animation in japanese pronunciation after all, but i think with such a difference in style and substance, people tend to differentiate "anime" from "cartoons" (I do a little bit too, to be honest). To me this is still considered anime, since not only is it being created by japanese studios, it definitely has a distict "japanese anime" type of style and substance -- something that american cartoon versions of these characters don't quite have.

well put it this way, witchblade was based on a comic, but in the end it was crap with lots of fanfare. i hated for the fact that it didnt follow the story and the main character had massive jugs, it was a complete joke to the whole witchblade comic which i used to read

having said this, the halo anime is somewhat like what happened with animatrix and batman gotham knight using some of the anime groups like production ig and bones. this will be no different, but if they can pull it off, then perhaps it will be good. i mean yeah probably a different storyline, and maybe not using tony stark but we will yet to see what will be happening in this "anime"
looks cool in the trailer, bu we should all know that trailers could be deceiving

watch the witchblade trailer and the 1st couple of eps and youll know what i mean

actually, the wolverine and the xmen series the americans did was quite good compared to their stunt with the iron man series using kids as the main characters ( and in 3d)
i mean so as long they havent fully failed on their part yet. hell even avatar which nickelodeon had a year back ( finally finished) was good and it had that anime feel to it. but the majority of the american animation showing are catered for the kids.

having said that, japan did that awful stunt with the whole power ranger version of spiderman

i am also a little sceptical about the prevailing use of dark themes for this kinda fiction. batman i can understand, but we have always come to know of tony stark as a womaniser and a high-mile sorta guy.... and a pirate overlord as the main villain? at least that fat ass in the movie was a little more realistic...

But still, there's this little voice in the back of my head which, like for the Halo anime, finds it kind of sad that the uber-pimpness of anime is needed to make American franchises look cool again. The original Iron man cartoon I watched was already very good.

It looks cool but its not anime at all, it tries to tie in the anime side by pulling two things inherently anime which is the hair colors nobody wears in real life and the character who feels the need to wear Thurstin Howl the Thirds yachting hat and standing stoically plus there's the lack of hand animation in this.

All that aside it does look cool but as others have said its not anime.

Lots of debate on whether this American story should be called Anime. My thoughts – I have a blurred line on US Cartoons and Japanese Anime. To me it is the feel of the picture not where it is made and who makes it. If the story and the look are Anime then it is Anime no matter where the story comes from. I like the idea of one of my favourite Marvel Hero’s being done in an Anime style regardless of the fact that the story started in the US. My 10 cents!

I thought that this looked more like an animated comic book; the style certainly borrows heavily from it. Another major thing is the music used – it doesn’t have that same zing! as anime music.
It uses highly detailed animation, quite unlike typical anime.

    It’s different, certainly, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s bad. Might take some getting used to tho. ^^;

ya know as an otaku well-versed in manga americana i have to say that despite my reservations about marvel touching anything japanese, this looks pretty awesome... it may suck. but at least it'll LOOK awesome. hopefully.

As a fan of both Manga and American Comics and as a really big fan of Iron Man, I can definitely say I can't wait until this comes out. The trailer looks awesome and it might even follow one of my favorite story arcs: Armor Wars.

I most definitely agree with BiglandmanX because no matter how we try to define it, "Anime" is merely a word used to describe animation in Japan, whether it came from Japan, America, or Europe. So yeah, that's my two cents on that.

I have to see the anime first. I'm not a fan of ironman and I'm more of a spiderman fanatic.

i went wtf when i saw iron man versus captain harlock. and can you say henshin? lol. i would give it a watch though. a new treatment to an old idea is always welcomed.

saw the wolverine trailer too. didn't like the characterization of wolverine there much, though giving it a samurai era touch was kinda nice and away from the norm. i felt tsutomu nihei's wolverine would fare much better in this case.

Defeats the whole purpose of it being Iron Man, while it may look nice graphically, somehow the trailer just makes it looked like JUST ANOTHER Japanese powersuit anime, loses all the original charm.

and the Wolverine anime is seriously wtf /facepalm

Although you didn't link the video here, the Wolverine teaser's Wolverine acted nothing like the Wolverine I'd say most people have come to know. Heck, it could just be a random guy with claws sticking out of his hands. :P

    Ironman anime is pretty epic though. I don't think that's a green-haired girl. :S
