エロゲメーカーMinoriは海外からのアクセスを遮断したらしい。

Nope, it's because the feminists started attacking the eroge market this happened. That and various other reasons, but mainly that. Atleast thats what they said over at Sankaku Complex.

I think it's unreasonable the way so many otaku are just running around blaming 'the feminists'. It's an incredibly diverse movement, and each of us has our own opinions. In addition, I've seen very few feminist groups even discussing this particular issue, let alone campaigning about it.

If you're going to be throwing blame around, then the specific group involved with the issue is called Equality Now.

(Also, Sankaku Complex isn't exactly a neutral source when it comes to feminism.)

When Equality Now found out about Rapelay (an eroge full of rape) they put an enormous amount of pressure on Japan to ban adult games. It got to such an extent they're banning stuff like nekomimi and fetishes.

Minori's response is most likely due to the consequences of this group since eroges are mainly for Japanese consumption and they aren't exactly promoted outside the country.

Feminism is a vast, diverse movement, and encompasses many different points of view. It is certainly not infallible - feminists are all individuals, and individuals make mistakes - but I feel that it's a great shame to overlook the work feminists are and have been doing all over the world, especially with regards to issues such as sexual violence.

My point of view of feminism is that they went all crazy in the 70'ties with "women shouldn't be the only ones doing... Men should too" and they said it about everything they considered women tasks. This means that tasks such as cooking, washing cloth and child care should be something men should do too. fair enough if women started working like men did (remember the split of tasks for genders is from a time when men worked and women took care of everything at home).

The major problem is when they delivered a task to the men and the men didn't start doing it. The result is that such tasks are left undone and now it's common not to do proper cooking. Quite a lot of children also suffers from parents who fight about who will take care of the children, like children is a burden to be avoided.

Sure I can blame feminism for this considering I'm a guy, but I started considering this when my mom started talking about issues with modern children where she blames feminism. One thing feminism seems to have forgotten is that equal rights means that guys can have rights too and be entitled to have a mind of their own. I have experienced feminists who wanted to rule the world and ensure that guys were not allowed to say anything. I hate people who think like that.

A really nice example of a feminist attack is that they cause at families where the mother is more likely to pick up the children from the daycare. They will not care if a family decides to do so because the father has a job where it's impossible for him to do it before closing time. Feminists think it's ok if the father is the one to pick up the children every day though (at least that's my impression).

Personally I believe that it would be ok to split tasks and stuff. If one person hates doing the dishes and the other one hates using a vacuum cleaner, then why aren't they allowed to split so they avoid duing stuff they hate?

I recall years ago the green party in Germany made a law proposal telling that women were not allowed to do the dishes more often than men. No other party supposed that because "it's a question for the household, not the law" and "how do you check if people obey that law?"

This is stupid. Looks like some people managed to kill eroge (specially considering what sankakucomplex wrote). Somehow I think this will pass and it will return to normal. After all no law have been passed and money talks. As long as it's legal and there are money in it, then it will happen.

The ban of more or less everything mentioned on sankakucomplex appears to be a minor issue. It would be like one computer magazine stopped giving reviews for FPS. They can still sell the games even if they are ignored by one and approved by the others. While this is stupidity talking people shouldn't make it worse than it is.

Note: I also wonder if the stuff sankakucomplex wrote about is really true. I mean basically it will ban everything with girls in it. That would ban non-eroge too unless it's a male only story. I have no other source for the ban, so for all I know somebody made a melonpan scaled joke.

Mmmm I can understand the 2 sides... Is an ethical problem. I think, legally speaking, Japan has problems, because it allows the Anime child pornography in games and cartoons. When I went to Akihabara, I enter a video store, they sell videos of girls in bikini 10 years old, it was not pornography, but many adults were buying ... Why? Been a shock to me...

Stuff involving real children should be banned but 2D lolis hurt nobody. If I'm alone at home looking at 2D lolis or playing an eroge containing loli I'm much less of a treat than those who want to touch or rape real children. This is completely stupid.

Mmm i don't thin so. The 2D girls can be too real for some people.. is ok if is a 2D adult girl, I like this kind of game too.---- But 2D child girls is very serious ethical problem... can be generate serious problems of personality in the future, and japan have a serious legal problem with Eroge. Many japanese friend tell to me this thing. Sorry for my english... i am spanish speaking. Grettings

          >>2D girls can be too real for some people

Then these people need to retrain themselves to know the difference between fiction and reality. Regardless of whether you think it's ethical or not, fiction is not real and a person who reaches adulthood is supposed to have enough common sense to understand the difference between these two.

If one person has the power to stop or ban something just because they don't like it, then any other person can do the same with stuff the first person likes.

I agree with you, but the problem goes beyond freedom of expression. I think that when children are involved in real or in 2D, there is an ethical and legal problem that Japan law should worry about. I like to play ero games too (with adults girls). The problem is in Japanese Legislation v/s the other countries legislation. Is a serious problem

Ethic and legality vary from country to country. One person may have a set of ethics, while another one may have a slightly different one. Forcing a country to do as you like just because you don't like something is not ethical, is oppression.

I do agree with the prosecution of real child porn because it involves real children. I'll never side with that crap. However I cannot side with anyone trying to ban fiction. As I said fiction is not real, and even though it may offend you and your ethics, it's still not harming anyone.

Let's say I'm offended by some books by Isabel Allende (terrific author by the way, I read her stuff in the original language) because they depict women being abused. It's fiction, but by your opinion I have a right to ban her works because they're "unethical". Now maybe you won't agree because you don't think they aren't so, but that's the problem. You can't just pick whatever you want, if you're gonna defend one fiction, you better be prepared the whole fiction, even what you hate with your whole heart.

To be honest, minori is quite adamant in keeping their games in Japan only, so this isn't a surprise at all. It's also not hard to get around, although I don't really have an interest in eden*.

Regarding the future of eroge, I personally think there's a whole lot of fearmongering going on (not pointing fingers). Things aren't as bad as people make it out to be and even if there are changes, it certainly won't come into effect right away.

All this thing are entertainment material for adults (and OK, mostly "this people" are men) but just because people watch it, that wont make them go out to the street and start raping other women here and there... if that happen to some "sick" man, it doesn't reflect the image of all men...

Seems quite silly. They don't even make games that have rape in them as far as I can remember, and their games are really good too! Unless their members moonlight for other eroge companies? And shutting off access to every foreigner for something morality sharks have targeted seems doubly stupid. They probably have more fans of their games than there are people who bothered to speak out against eroge!

Well that just sucks for me and many fans out there. I'm a big fan of the "ef" anime.

Pushing eroge developers to close their doors to foreigners is really a shame, especially since it impedes on their right of speech and expression. They're a game company for crying out loud! minori's merely making games that satisfies people's fantasies through software rather than in real life.

I totally agree with ScorchNRoses. Hardcore moralists have nothing better to do than to attack eroge developers, much less regular game developers. It's meaningless!

Well I think the blocking idea is a good one. Although we must take it into mind that Rapelay was never meant to be sold outside of japan in the first place. Whoever complained about it must have downloaded it through...BITTORRENT, another discriminated affair of the world. Though bittorrent is great and all, it's what caused the downfall of eroge in the first place.

Won't be much longer before innocent normal everyday Eroge is banned, then ecchi, then next up will be any sort of provactivness in anime i.e. woman wearing skirts or low cut tops (all anime character woman will have to dress like men to not be provocative) after this it wont be much longer before the only shows the new leaders of Japan (the femenist group) allow anybody to watch will be teletubies.

It amazes me how such a small group of people can change the laws of something that millions watch why don't they go after all the wrong things in western country's instead of picking on a country that crimes against woman is much lower than just about every country on earth e.g. much lower than the UK and America.

What really makes me laugh is that nobody is doing anything about it, I've not even heard of one petition or anything with the millions of viewers of Eroge I'm pretty sure it would be noticed.

From the looks of the list over at Sankaku there is basically going to be no eroge anymore then as they say they will move onto anime and manga, so if nobody really wants to defend what's going off then it shows us so called fans of the anime/manga world are just big wussies and it won't be too long before there is no new anime/manga worth watching, but I guess nobody seems to really care.

It's really unfortunate they take this measure. A lot of Japanese creators do like to have their work exposed to as many people as possible, even surprised to be even popular outside of Japan. With this kind of attitude they lose some of that possibility to expand their creation and expose their culture to the world. Can't say I blame them after what's been happening there because of some extremists on this side of the world... I can understand why they were closed up to the world back in the 16th century (sorry, don't really remember my history).

I think about Minori blocked access from oversea's visiters.

It had to take such action in Japan is a very unfortunate situation, I think the loss of overseas fans.
However, the capture as a racist and I think this is wrong.
Outset of our problems in the first place is not the suppression of the Japanese culture by human rights groups in the United Kingdom.
To eliminate the geek culture, foreign fans for the protest groups - that would fan the Japan of course - is not without protest.
To protest the logical explanation of the culture, our protest will have to explain to you that it is not irrelevant.
Software House also covering the loss of Japan, had been able to develop freely.
    The layoffs have been shutdown.

Overseas fans who read the first sentence should be aware of this.

This measure is the measure of necessity, the action is not rooted in racism.

Minori is not who you lightly. Should understand it to say that last resort.

Protest and myopic thinking, I wish they would not enforce the measures.

Their ideas well, and I want a logical end to what it was?

On such protest at the idea of where you want to act calmly.

The fans also know the situation in Japan has been lamented that upset.

Much Love to the fans from the fans of Japan for Overseas fans.

I find this rather hilarious. People these days want world unification. They fight to rid the world of traditions that have no place in the modern world. In other words, they're forcing their beliefs on other people, changing the cultures of other countries. They do not think twice about the locals who practice these traditions. All they want is a modern, scientific and united world.

Now, when the world finally starts to eliminate something as one united force, these same people complain. I'm talking about SOME people here who are complaining about the actions of the Japanese government in response to the orders of the feminist group Equality Now. So, now that SOME of you got what you want, how does it feel?

BTW I'm against Minori's response towards this little issue, if some of you are wondering~

Sure a proxy can fix certain things, yet the signal they send out by censoring or "banning" things is just... bah.

I don't really mind it... first, I'm not interested in this sorta stuff. unfortunately.

second, I hate the fact that the Japanese culture is over-spreading worldwide now. Back when I first got in to Japanese culture, that was like 10 years ago... and back then I knew no one else who was interested in anime, manga and eroge etc...

Nowadays possibly 2/3 people would have/had a liking towards anime, manga, or eroge etc.

Kinda sux, cuz back then I considered it one of those hobby/interest where no one else was interested in.

For me... I considered it to be cool to be able to watch anime with Japanese audio with eng subs. Whereas all my friends are stuck with the english dubbed crap.

It's a great way for a company to nail their own coffin but I agree that foreign, ass-backwards thought (like the evil fundamentalists Christians in America and parts of Asia or good old Islamic terrorist conservatives in the mid east) has gotten so pathetic that it would drive a company to centralize their culture.

Yes US! Why Us. Lets face it.. We are the sources of our own problems.. We don't exactly put on the happy happy come join us.. face. We sit behind our computer monitors.. and wank off!! For christ sake.

This tends to make, most people.. Angry! And scared.. and worried.. We are the future!! A bunch of wankers playing with themselves to 2D girls! Though.. Honestly.. It could be worse.

So.. We know we can get around Minori's website ban, which they prolly did on purpose to make a statement. But lets face it.. Feminism, Fascism,.. Crackmonkeyism.... etcetcism.. AIn't going to care, they want to make the world a puritinical version of itself so that way everyone can love and be free and happy! Or so they think. So if your still reading ^_^

What can you do to help the cause against this.. and make it so we can blame them.. not us to blame!! Show the kids more porn!!! Yes folks, be what your parents always were afraid of.. that guy that gives the grade schoolers porn.. Just don't get caught!

This is what is considered a Strawman Victory. The fascists got what they think they deserved, and now the market has further removed itself from prying eyes. People should know the chilling effects of banning things. Look at Germany! First they started banning Nazi symbology, then games with violent content, and now websites they deem "inappropriate" which seemed to be a lot of websites criticizing Germany for censoring the internet forcibly.

Once you gives these people a victory, they will go after EVERYTHING! People need to fight for the free speech! Dont let fascists take that away from you!

I don't know much about eroge other than the term coming around since I joined DC back in January but if all of eroge is symptomatic of what can be found in rapelay then I am fully for its banning as a medium. It's one thing to produce a product such as hentai or afro samurai but does society world wide or even in one city need to have a product or medium that not only displays rape and murder but up plays it to the point that the entire basis of it is rape and violence and murder against women and children? Can anyone actually defend that with a conscious because I know I can't defend it even as an art form which there is no way you can attach idea of art to this.

Figures, I post my own argument against eroge if it is something that follows along the lines of this rapelay game and why I would not have a problem with it being banned because of what it entails and promotes and I get labeled a troll by someone who is doing exactly what he is accusing me of. If your all for it then try presenting a better argument than name calling and giving a work around to getting to the eroge websites.

@Y10NRDY: Valdemar is in no way trolling here. What I see is an argument or at least view presented clearly - a troll doesn't do that. If you disagree with the content, then please present worded counterarguments rather than a short line.

          @Valdemar: Eroge refers to games, generally visual novels but also others, with any kind of erotic material. Rapelay is actually on the fringes of that, so it is in fact not a constitutive example of eroge as a whole. Most eroge in fact present scenarios with two fully willing participants. Or more than two. ^^;

YuzuSoft has followed minori and blocked foreign IPs too. I'm sure some other companies will do the same. It makes sense from their perspective and they probably understand that while it will hurt foreign fans, it will be a better short-term choice to deal with the politics side. minori has already acknowledged foreign fans and wants their support. Besides, you can use proxies to get in easily so it's only a minor inconvenience.

the latter tale is the eroge sequel? or the movie? (its a tad bit confusing with so many ef "names" and then split between eroge and anime

    Current Japanese situation

To our regret, an English version of the summary of the regulatory problem was not able to be made.
This sentence is made by using the translation website.
Therefore, please agree that there is a possibility to give a false impression to you who are reading, too.

    Game restriction details summary
    http://www28.atwiki.jp/erogekisei/

Lie "Japan is a child pornography large country".
    http://icc-japan.blogspot.com/2008/11/blog-post_28.html

    The Diet relay
    http://www.shugiintv.go.jp/jp/video_lib3.php?deli_id=39900&media_type=wb

There are two problems about the bill of the restriction of the child pornography of this Japan.
1.The investigation is not made visible like being quite vague the standard of a pertinent restriction,
and the problem of the government party bill that can be done in the crime in simple maintenance.
2.The creation of two dimensions (game and cartoon, etc.) that is the product of the delusion where
the direct harm person doesn't exist is problems of the opinion that it is necessary to put it in the object of this restriction.

Regretting personally : the simple maintenance problem of one.
It is what TV and the press report organization in Japan do not try to tell Japanese citizen strangely.
Whether a virtual press restriction is being put by the government party is guessed.
It would be greatly appreciated if it could cooperate because of the freedom of wholesome democracy and the expression.

Yeah, I think in their rush to find someone to blame, a lot of people are forgetting about the idiot who thought it would be a good idea to put a game about rape on a mainstream shopping website in the UK.
