I have a few airsoft guns, mostly the lower end Chinese made ones. My friend almost got arrested on multiple occasions when airsofting, mostly because the neighbours think we're shooting each other with real guns.

isn't BB == Airsoft? even if it is powered by spring, green gas or CO2, it is usually called BB right?

It should be easy to check if the gun is airsoft or not, try to check the barrel, usually it have double barrel (the bigger one on the outside is only decoration, and in the inside, there is smaller barrel ~6mm~ is an airsoft barrel), but for rifles may bit difficult.

but if it is powered by CO2, it can make you bleeding!

BB afaik stand for the size and shape of pellets used, which is 6mm round pellets. Airsoft, specifically means guns that use plastic BB pellets, as plastic are much softer and have less penetration power. Plastic BB can and do split after it hits a target, but on skin either way it's still painful.

Metal BB are not airsoft because they can be lethal. Even an underpowered gun shooting metal BB can easily penetrate skin and into flesh, whereas using plastic BB you'd be very lucky to even break the skin. Even at point blank range the furthest it'll penetrate is maybe a few mm of flesh.

That's right, I've been witness to a BB-gun related accident and the guy had to go to the hospital to have the pellet removed. It went so deep into his arm that it almost broke the bone. And that was just one pump of a pump-action BB-gun, but it was close range.

Airsoft will break skin if you are close enough. At my local arena, there is a 10-foot rule for airsoft or paintball - you must demand your target surrender before shooting if you are able to sneak up on them and get too close. 99% of the time, the target surrenders because we know how painful a close-up shot can be! :D

      Americans and their guns... sigh

I got a G3A4 german rifle but i got it hidden and dismantled in various spots in the house for safety precautions. Having firearms is illegal here. Only the army and the security forces can have guns. Only reason i have one is because i am obliged as a reserve to have one in case of emergency e.g. War >.<

Who wants to own something that is meant to take lifes? It's just wrong.

I do understand where your coming from, but I don't think guns are bad just because they have been used as a weapon to kill other people. They can be a useful tool just like a knife is or they can be used for sport just like a bow and arrow. Both of which are or have been used as weapons to take lives. Growing up in different parts of the world probably has something to do with our different views though.

Around these parts we're not even allowed to have Paintball guns. We have to be registered to a paintball club and the club has to keep all the guns in a locked safe with security measures. -___-

A couple of my friends have gotten airsofts through customs though (illegally...) but I've never been bothered.

Over here we're not even allowed to have swords unless they have some historical value, in which case they must be blunt. Replicas do not count as having historical value. :(

Plus they give free shipping to anywhere in the world. I bought my 1911-A1 (P361 variant - http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.19521) from them for $25 awhile back and its very realistic and heavy. Just a thought~

Thanks for clearing that up for me - I've always wondered because I've heard that in the US, you can't carry a CONCEALED weapon, so I always wondered if you could carry one openly.

The funny thing is, the "right to bear arms" is a law that came about when Americans were afraid of loyalists invading... from Canada. But I can assure you, there's no way we have the ability to invade the USA in modern times...:P

I want to get an airsoft gun but they were incredibly hard to get. Before, I believe you had to be an authorized firearms dealer before you were allowed to sell replicas of firearms with clear plastic bodies. Now, I believe the law states you are allowed to purchase them anywhere as long as the body is clear plastic. Also, theres a cap on the muzzle velocity. Its slightly easier to get a hold of an airsoft gun but then you face outrageous costs. A cheap Chinese brand airsoft gun will be 2-3 times more expensive than what you normally find online.

If you have no criminal record.. and are a legal citizen of the united states.. All ya have to do is go to a sporting goods store.. Fill out the BAFTA form.. they call the Sheriffs office.. Sherriff tells them if you have any priors or any warrants.. If not.. Generally you walk out of the sporting goods store Rifle or Pistol in hand.. since the seven day waiting period of the brady bill was footed by the seller.

If you go to a gun show.. find a gun ya like, Hand over the cash.. leave with gun.

      Very simple.

Is why the gun control lobby is desperately trying to shut gun shows down.. they say it makes it too easy for criminals to get guns.. but I can tell ya having been to more then a few gun shows.. The people selling the guns don't sell to shifty types. And most of the attendents are pretty much as red in the neck as they come. Criminals wouldn't go shopping at the gun show.

I own, no airsoft guns.. consider that really kind of silly.. Why own fake guns when real guns work a lot better.

I personally own, seven firearms. Two .38 special pistols, one .22 LR Marlin rifle, One .30-06 model 38 arasaka rifle Sportizied, One Marlin model 336 .30-30, Two shotguns, One Mossberg model 535 12. ga pump, and one Snakecharmer .410 single shot.

But, I'm a hunter, so.. thats basically my reason for owning said guns.. except the pistols. Those are for homestead defense.

I see Dark-Kai3's comment above mine.. About the UK having a total firearm ban. statistics prove that violent crime surged when firearms were banned. Personally I find that to be a horrible thing.. Citizens unable to defend themselves against violent criminals.. and their own government.

You can't measure crime rates without looking at cultural and historical background of all countries. Besides there is an old saying : "there are lies, big lies and statistics" If you really want to get some statistics look at USA's % homicides with firearms, its a whooping 65% in 2000 - the only countries with a higher % were Colombia (drug cartels) and Guatemala (after a bloody civil war).

Oooh no doubt, Our violent crime in american invariably invovles a firearm.. Due to to ease of acquiring one on the street. But, the fact remained after the total gun ban went into place in the UK. Violent Crime Surged!

Also, In areas here in the United states, that have had a Healthy Gun Lobby, and Concealed carry laws that aren't restrictive. Violent Crime has dropped. Ohio is a good example of this in itself. Before Concealed Carry Violent crime was much higher then after the concealed carry laws came into affect.

Yes and in 2000 in the :

US there were 5.6 homicides per 100,000 inhabitants (has risen to 5.8 in 2008)

Columbia there were 62.7 homicides per 100,000 inhabitants (has dropped to 33 in 2008)

Guatemala there were 25.8 homicides per 100,000 inhabitants (has risen to 45.2 in 2006)

And if your interested Japan was at 0.50 per 100,000. Really, percentages "lie" just like statistics, numbers are easy to manipulate to get a point across. Hard numbers help though. Still, 5.6 per 100,000 is still way too high, would like to see it below 1.

        http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_murder_rate

BTW, I have owned BB guns, airsoft and paintball, but none these days.

Yep, always had guns, just simple rifles though I don't like pistols. Ruger .22 rim fire rifle and 30/30 Marlin Lever Action Rifle. Last one has some serious kick with winchester rounds. Not the greatest idea in home protection since a shotgun is best but all I got. Need them though people in the rent houses usually all run some criminal operations here and they would gut us if not for these I think.

Never used or owned an airsoft gun...
Though used M16 while in national service and fired real rounds.

I feel that one should be afraid of their own guns. They are so deadly/lethal/destructive if you've seen the real thing. No hollywood style limping after a shot and recovering after a while. The rifle bullets can blow a limb off.

I wonder are people who want to own their own gun prepared to get shot by others in the same way as well. There is no joke and no coolness.

Wanting to own a sci-fi gun or miniature war dorama is fine though.
Wanting to own a real gun... I'm not sure how many really knows what its like to be shot at.

You would probably have to coat the inside first so the acid doesn't burn through the gun, if you're going to use it. You could probably fill it up with petrol or something though, but I don't know how it would work...

It's all hypothetical, friend. *cough* ;) No, seriously.

If you fill the thing up right before you need it, there shouldn't be a problem. But with acid you'd likely have to demonstrate what it is, which means a chemical volatile enough to show immediate effect and, in fact, would burn through your water gun quickly.

I do not mean that in a derogatory way. Just that here - and I assume the same for almost any developed country - the use of a weapon on a film set, even a replica, must be notified to the local authorities beforehand to avoid this very situation.

            1. singapore does not have much in terms of 'violent crimes' due to the gun ban.
            2. singapore also don't have bands of roaming 'outlaws' with guns.

your gun theories don't really apply to the real world.
the places around the United States that really push for gun bans tend to be large metropolitan areas, like DC with their gun ban recently reversed. if you out in the boonies don't like people trying to legislate how you own guns, us in the cities also don't like the NRA telling us how to police guns either. getting tougher gun laws on the books mean having leverage in prosecuting crimes involving guns. we obliviously live completely differently with regards to population/recreation/crime there is no gun slogan to cover all cultures/situations.
if you feel gun control is interfering with your life, just know that the other half here feels your gun needs are interfering ours.

Seriously? I really don't like guns. I'd be glad if we could ban them all forever.

But that's not realistic. It's a pandora's box that's been opened and can never be closed. The *knowledge* of how to make a gun is out there, and so long as people don't get along, there'll be guns.

There will always, always be a gun somewhere. You ban it here? Gun crimes drop in your state, maybe, but that's just 'cause the laws were tough enough that people decided not to bother and just went over to the next state over. If they raise their laws, then they'll be back.

So what if the laws get really strict? Then you have the scenario of having to enforce it. And how do you enforce that without the police having power to fight guns - more guns?

So say you arm your police. Then what you get is a police state where the police hold absolute power, and power corrupts. Laws can't keep everyone in check - that's the very basis of crime. And when the law has all the power and no need to be accountable, the law ceases to hold meaning altogether.

What you get is a police state.

Gun control is a good start. But there's a fine balance that must be reached, one that few have found, I think.

Real guns are easy to obtain in most of the United States. Getting the permits and even the concealed carry permits is a joke. I'm over 21 in Florida, getting that license would only take me like a month, and then I'm legally able to carry a handgun on my person. I don't believe is banning all guns, but gun laws need to be tightened.

I own a Romanian semi-automatic AK clone, the WASR-10, with full-size mags (30 rounds). 7.62x39mm ammo is still fairly cheap around here, so whenever I'm at my house in PA (in NYC, you can't own guns in city limits without some crazy restriction), I do some plinking in my friend's huge plot of land. He's the one with the arsenal though, topped off by his .50 cal rifle. I own a few airsoft guns myself as well, but nothing can beat the real thing. I'm probably going to increase my arsenal if I move out of NYC.

You used to be able to by really nice replica waterguns here in America, but people kept mistaking them for real guns, so now they paint some part of it neon orange, so people can tell the difference. Sometimes it's just the nozzle of the gun, and sometimes it's the whole thing. It's a shame, really, but I understand why they do it. But that's the reason I've hung on to my old uzi water pistol--it looks just like the real thing, and it's all black like before they started making them fluorescent... :-)

Airsoft guns are pretty nice. A couple of my friends go have wars with them. Personally, I would rather use a good old pellet gun instead. More lethal, better range/firepower, and yet still legal to have/use. Plus I love the feel of the natural wood (at least the one I used to have) in my hands instead of plastic or metal. ^_^ Course...I can't go around shooting my friends with it...but oh well. :P

Air guns are fairly easy to get around here. Canadian Tire sells CO2 pistols and rifles that look fairly realistic, with no orange markings or anything like that. Alas, I haven't seen any assault-rifle replicas.

As for real guns, I've shot a small .22 rifle at my uncle's dog kennel (on a farm), but it's really hard to get a license for a real fire-arm, especially in the city. The licenses only allow you to purchase certain kinds of guns as well. Most people can apply to buy a rifle, but I think only police officers can get licenses to purchase hand-guns.

Doesn't really matter if it's an air gun, I would still like to avoid being hit by one. But that was pretty stupid though.

I own 3 airsoft rifles, I used to play a lot the pasts few years. Popularity is increasing here in France and there are more and more players. Unfortunately, most are bad players who don't say when they're hit. They only want the best score, like they were playing Counter Strike...
Regarding the law, you can own an airsoft gun legaly, as long as you keep it out of reach of people under 18 and you have to carry it an a bag. Airsoft guns are considered toys until their velocity is under 2 joules. More, it becomes an arm.
Airguns are not quite easy to get in France - except the poor plastic spring-powered ones. There are only a few shops with nice but expensive airguns. It's easier and cheaper to get it from an HK dealer.

When I was in middle school there were loads of kids who owned BB guns. I never had one (my parents would never have allowed it) and I never wanted one. I wish parents would be a bit more responsible with letting their kids use them - when my little sister was twelve, some kid shot at her leg with one when she was in a shop. No lasting damage done, but it gave her quite a scare.

Real guns are mostly illegal in the UK - I know somebody who has a license for sporting purposes and owns his own gun, but getting a license is difficult. There are usually quite a few pro-gun Americans criticising our system whenever I see the topic come up on a forum or something, but gun crime is still fairly rare in the UK and in my experience the vast majority of people here are quite happy with the laws on gun control.

If you have an airgun here you can still get in trouble.
A friend of mine posted a picture of him with an airgun on a dutch facebook-like site and he was taken to the policestation and was kept there and even had to go through a small trail to declare why he had it and what his intentions were with it.
A bit overexagerated if you ask me.
But I don't see why normal civilians should have real guns either, only causes trouble.. just thinking about a piece of news from 2 months back, in germany where a guy took his father's guns and shot 15 people in his school.

I have a Walther PPK 7.65, and a Russian 9mm para. Walther is from my grandfather from my fathers side, he took it from a German officer in 1942, but the gun was made in 1939. It's slick, lite and small, You can carry it concealed in a pocket with no fuss. When You shoot is sounds like a firecracker. I got it from my grandpa before he died. It is the same model James Bond uses. The Russian one is one of the worlds ugliest weapons and it's from my mothers father, also from the WW2, it is big and heavy but it can go in a motor block with original Russian ammunition. I like Walther better. I also have a rifle, it's Yugoslav M48 (Mauser type) but later production date around 1995 and made like a hunters rifle not army, caliber 7.9. It is VERY precise, especially when you compare it to more popular western brands that cost 10 times more.

    LOL pwned! XD

That is a LOT of airsoft guns! Me want some!!! XD

I don't own an airsoft gun but I'm saving money to buy one. Several months ago I joined my university's airsoft club and I really want to join them in their skirmishes using my own gun! But owning one is kinda complicated. One needs to fill some papers and pay some fees before one can actually start buying one. Failure to follow said process will put you to jail.

My father once owned two firearms, both were handguns (I think one was a Norinco 1911). But he sold them some years ago to earn some extra cash. I wished he could have just given it to me T_T

I don't own any firearms yet but I am planning to. Philippines isn't exactly the safest country in the world and it would be a big help if one can protect one's self in a way. Although I'm practicing Karate-do, I'm not very confident when using it. If I recall correctly, a civilian has the right to own one longarm and one pistol (with some limitations in firepower like a civvie can only own a .45 cal or something like that). A military reservist like me (and all military personnel for that matter) has the right to also own only one longarm and one pistol but they don't have any restrictions in terms of caliber. This is from what I've read so far so I'm not really sure if the things I just said are real. I've also heard from people that, if you join a gun club, you can own more firearms.

Oh yeah I've also fired a real firearm during ROTC training. It was an M16A1; I can tell because it was old, had a triangular handguard and the fact that its the only M16 model the Philippine military commonly uses. The smell of the gunpowder, the deafening sound, the recoil... oh how I would want to experience those again! XD

I have a Walther PPK replica, looks pretty nice, and it's quite heavy, but it's just for collectors, it's not airgun nor BB, you can just remove the cartridge or mount the gun, but when you press the trigger.... just a "click" sound and nothing else. Bought it online in Spain, I'm not sure about legality as it looks very realistic... but well, now I can say I have James Bond's gun ;) I only need now the chicks and the Aston Martin ;)

In Singapore, you can't buy airsoft guns that look like the real ones. Typically, toy-replicas of real guns that are allowed are coloured with bright plastic bits so that no-one will mistake them for real guns.

Firearms are only allowed by private citizens as members of the official gun club/range and you have to lock it up at the club. You can't bring home ammunition nor the weapon back home.

Thus, only the military and police have access to firearms and ammunition.

The ironic thing is since almost all male citizens go through military/police service for 2 years, most of us outgrow playing with toy-guns since we handled real ones during our military/police national service.

Personally, I've handled M16S1 (AR15 with a forward-assist), SAR 21 (Singapore made 5.56mm assault rifle with built-in scope), Ultimax 100 (5.56mm section assault weapon) even basic 7.62mm General Purpose Machine Gun (FN). Done live firing at the range for M16, SAR 21 and Ultimax. Firing is fun but the cleaning and pulling through of your barrel is not and neither is maintaining it.

Probably the main thing I've not handled would be Milan Anti-Tank and mortar rounds during my 2 years and 10 years of annual reserve training.

I've got a Serbian-made clone of the soviet sniper rifle Snayperskaya Vintovka Dragunova- the Zastava M-76. Here in Serbia, you can easily obrain semi-automatic rifles, and semi-automatic shotguns for the hunting needs (when going hunting, you have to limit magazine capacity to 2 cartridges, + 1 in the barrel), but when you go to the firing range, you can remove the limitations and shoot as much as you like. You have to be a member of a hunting society for at least a year before you purchase your first weapon, however, and all the weapons must be registered in the police. It's a lot easier to obtain a pistol, or a revolver, however, since any citizen above the age of 18, and without any criminal record can make a purchase. This weapon must also be registered in the police.

But, to tell you the truth, since the civil war in Bosnia in 90's, every 5th family has either and illegal Kalashnikov, or Scorpion- not that they need it or anything, just because they feel "safe" with an assault rifle on thir hands... Retarded if you ask me.

hehe right, these is a lot of firearms floating around. before you purchase any type of firearm, gun, pistol, revolver of even a crossbow You have to get a permission from the police, you apply for it , conditions are that you are not criminally prosecuted, over 18 years, and you have to have a certificate for handling the type of weapon you wont to procure. Then after you get the permission(a month probably-after the police goes around your neighborhood and asks around and checks you out in their database). Then you get the approval and can go and bye what ever you wonted. Mind you, this procedure must be repeated for every piece you wont, again and again, it does not matter if you wont two pieces of the same kind. Plus there is a big difference about the Serbian permit and the western permits(American for instance) this permit is for having weapons at HOME it is not a license to carry weapons! If you are a hunter you have to be in a hunters association so you can take your rifle to go hunting but to get a license to carry a handgun, it is difficult for an ordinary person, you have, for instance, to carry a lot of cash around because of your work and then you can apply for carrying a pistol, and then it is issued for a period of 2 years and must be renewed after that.
Yes having a automatic gun at home is a little retarded, and you can not do it legally in Serbia(in USA you can own what ever you wont, in Europe it is not so). Most of the people who have an ak-47 got it from the war in Bosnia when they fled to Serbia and some of them did not turn it in aldo there was a amnesty for all weapons a couple of times. i think it is closer to every 20-th family now, because most of the people got around to get rid of them, i know a lot of people but no one who has a scorpion or kalash.
Ten years ago I said to the father of my ex girlfriend(they are from Sarajevo, Bosnia) why don't he throw it away or something because he wont need it anymore, and he said that he had a MP40 from the ww2 from his father and when father died in 1979 he gave it to the police. He was very sorry he did that because war broke out after only 13-14 years and they were all nearly killed because they were defenseless. I know it is difficult to understand for somebody who hears about the war on the news-but when you HEAR the war with Your ears, well you think about some thingies a little bit different. You never know what is going to happen in 10 years here...

And ,Yes the Zastava M-76 You own is a GREAT sniper rifle, and it is called Serbian Dragunov but other then the caliber and our pep talk it is not a copy of the famous Russian SVD Dragunov. M76 mechanism is derived from the Ak47 firing mechanism. I fired from it and loved it instantly, more then the Dragunov i also tried but I think objectively Dragunov and M76 are pretty evenly matched snipers. When you hold them in Your hand M76 has a better finish (at least i think so).
      Bye!

I'm quite glad that Singapore ban firearms and airsoft guns that resembles real ones. Well, airsfot guns do have its dangers and if they were allowed, I wouldn't be surprised to see students bringing them to school. Considering the teens in my country nowadays, a kid even brought a knife to school just to settle a trivial problem with his classmate.

I guess the criminals in my country mainly rely on weapons like e.g chopper, swiss army knife, kitchen knife, etc. Using melee weapons like these for a crime is just making the job easy for the police, so what for commit the crimes...

In Italy you can play airsoft in the countryside only if you ask the permission to authorities, first. If you have a private zone to play (as us have), you still have to tell the authorities you are playing or you can be charged of "caused alarm" (serious crime here!).

License for gun-holding is different: in you house you can have some guns (pistols) if you declare them to authorities even without a license, but you cannot take them out of your house. If you have an hunting license, you can hold some rifles and you can take them from house-countryside and back but they cannot be ready to fire. Same for a sport gun license (like mine): you can hold a limited number of guns/carbines/rifles and take them from house-shooting range and back but still you need to carry them not ready to fire. It's really difficult to obtain a license to take a gun with you ready to fire, you can have it only in some particular cases of personal defense.

i had some electric airsoft weapons when i was a kid, then a air rifle that fired a flat/pointed metal projectile with a scope mounted on top. but after i turned 18 and got my hunting license, my uncle got me a Ruger M77 Hawkeye/Tactical sniper rifle with a all weather scope (will be getting different one since its a bit damaged) and i simply love it!

getting a electric airsoft weapons in my country is easy. you can even go to San Marino, Italy and bring it over the border (they have one of the largest inventory's in Europe). but a real gun/rifle you have to either be a politician and just say your life is in danger, are a soldier, police officer, a hunter *you have to get a hunting license*, or prove to the police that your life is in danger and you need a gun to protect your self, or belong to a Marksman's club. but even all this takes up to 6 months or even a year to get all the paper work through.

Seriously.. Its not the people that own guns legally that you ever have to worry about.

Its the guy coming up behind ya with a knife wanting your wallet.. that you have to worry about..

Just an example.. I've been mugged, its not a fun experience.. I had four black kids stomp me, roll me.. Bite me. All for my wallet.. and measly twenty bucks.

Airsoft is not really a huge business in my neck of the woods but I can get air rifles(pellet/bb guns) about anywhere. I personally have an ICS MP5 A4 that is full metal(made in Taiwan). I LOVE airsoft and I am a big fan of Tokyo Marui airsoft guns(about the best in the business). Here in the US though, you are required to have an orange tip on your airsoft guns but I have seen some that like to scratch/remove the paint from their barrels(really illegal in the US). I also own 2 air rifles that I shoot in my backyard. I also shoot my father's real .40 cal Sig Sauer P226 and FNP 45; thoose are a lot of fun to shoot and IMO that I am a pretty good shot with those pistols;P As far as the story, it doesn't surprise me seeing how firearms are illegal in Japan and it would be really hard to get a real pistol there. I hate it when people do stuff like this because it makes law makers want to put heavier regulations on things that I like to collect. By the way Danny/everyone, does Japan have any airsoft playing fields/places?

i have held a lot of weapons in my life and i say that the AK 47 does not impress me when it comes to accuracy. problem is that you might not get your hands on a REAL AK 47 due to the thing that almost every former ally of the USSR have build their versions. so you see the market with Hybrids, Chinese crap etc. although if anyone gives you a version from ''Zastava Arms'' they are considered the best versions build outside of Russia.

Here are people who sells airguns but you dont see many in the streets, mainly because of the rampant insecurity. I think if anyone plays in the street with an airgun is in risk of have a real shoot by a real gun (many, many bad and crazy people are on the loose).

yeah that has happened a lot of times here, too. that's why the local government is starting to crack down on these airsoft dealers.

also, steps are being made to totally legalize airsoft here, including stamping serial numbers, gun registration, and painting the muzzles orange, which totally craps out the realism factor.

IMHO, it's the recent explosion of cheap china-made guns that is to blame.

my friend put it this way... before, airsoft was like golf, where only those responsible (and wealthy) enough have access...

now, it's like street basketball, where any regular joe can buy and lug around these "toys"

Here in the UK it is much easier to buy a real air gun (shooting lead bullets) than an airsoft weapon.

To buy an airgun you just have to be over 17 years old and give your name and address when you buy it. Over a certain power level, you need a firearms certificate.

To buy an airsoft, you have to join a registered club and be a member for three months, then you get a certificate and you can buy a gun. However, all the airsoft guns have to be painted unrealistic colours like pink or yellow.

I've got an airsoft pistol bought before the law was changed, and a real air pistol bought last year.
