Perhaps the kid's meals at your restaurant should come with Gashapons and trading figures? There is a great restaurant here up in NYC with a ninja theme that is executed really well, so I look forward to seeing what sort of theme you can come up with yours.

Make a dutch themed restaurant. It would be totally unqiue. Dress the girls in dutch clothes with clumps and have windmills placed at every table XD. You could serve things like patatoes with applesauce and "spruitjes" "andijvie" & "kroketten" XD

but serious an international restaurant would be really cool. I once went to a restaurant wich had a buffet with snacks from around the world. <3

My goals for the coming years? Other than studying, it would be learning Japanese, Photoshop, and some programming for fun(if I'm not taking a course on it, that is.) Of course not forgetting a obligatory Japan Trip! ^^

I still can't decide on which course I want to go to. Sigh. I'd love to work with computers, but my deep interest in Biology would seem a bit wasted then. :S

Restaraunt decorated with figures? Great idea, wanna go there ^^ But really, I think I will, no, I'm going to eat there when I get to Japan. I don't think I'll get there earlier than in 2011, who knows, but I might get there around 2011, 2012 on scholarship for Japanese Studies' students. I hope.
It's nice to set goals in life. I have some too, however I don't have them set on any specific year. Well, I want to pass JLPT 2 in 2010, and then CPE Cambridge Examination at the end of 2010 or in 2011. Another goal is to get to university, Japanese Studies, and I think I might be able to do some IT university along with it too. Of course I also want to keep improving my blog and get more and more visitors ^^

The restaurant goal sounds amazing, If I was eating there I would be stuck between eating some delicious asian cuisine and staring at the amazing collection of figures and dolfies you will have up. ^^ Good luck with fulfilling all your goals Danny!

    My current goals are:
2009 - Surviving first year of university (6 more weeks >_<), getting level 1 certification in
rocketry, and start figure collection :D
2010 - Studying abroad in Japan in the summer, start learning Japanese, and level 2 certification
2011 - Getting an internship or learn to build satellites, and continuing building rockets (level 3 cert??)
2012 - hopefully graduate with BS in Aerospace Engineering (a bit behind since i failed physics) , then going to Japan to eat at your restaurant Danny, and hopefully meet you ^^ Also to learn Japanese to get transferred to Japan once I work for companies like Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Northrup Grumman, and Raytheon (if they have an office or job oppurtunity there :p)

My goals go pass 2012 and there isn't really a year set for them. Some of my goals: Get a BS in photography or graphic design, learn Japanese, start my own business cause I'm tired of working for retards and getting paid next to nothing, work with/for Danny Choo, make a happy life for myself and continue to be the laid back and chill guy that I am. ^_^

One of my main long term goals is and has been for a few years now,

Live and work in Japan by the time I'm 28 (4 and a bit more years)

    Some short term goals.

2009: Start a degree part time while still studying my Japanese, find a second source of income, hopefully a pay rise at my current work.

2010: Be fluent in Japanese, get me and my wife a place to live, visit Japan.

2011: Have a lot of money saved ready for Japan hopefully visit a few times before we move.

2012 - onwards: Finish my degree, plus by then 10 years working in IT should give me a good chance of landing a job in Japan

(p.s. for those out there that think you have to have a degree to work in Japan re-read your local Japanese embassy's website you can get a visa with 10 years experience in specific work you don't have to have a degree)

Many more goals than this but cant list everything :D

Goals, makes me remember those demotivators pictures. =P~
Wondering if IT people or people that work on blogs have enough time for restaurant management.
Indeed its ambitious, but one have to be realistic (an optimistic pessimist) and gather as much info required to make it work, which is the main goal. Anyway GANBATTE KUDASAI!!

    My goals:
2009 Reinsertion in Uni life, need contacts for a scholarship; search an appropriate scholarship, depending on that I'll need an English proficiency exam again. =/ Get a job too
Think on side projects: there are really amazing design for furniture out there on the net.
2010 Get scholarship and adaptation to life in another country, try to get a job in a foreign country and see how the work is there (I had bad experiences with employer, always a$$h013$)
2011 Get a life by my own, and disappear. =P~
2012 I might visit Danny-san restaurant... or apply for a job there. =P~

Don't forget to write your plans and goals, with big letters and paste it on the ceiling over your bed or in your room's door. All is possible if one knows what to do. ;) Good luck to everyone.

the decor and food might clash if you did an anime/otaku theme and did Asian cuisine. Also remember that the locals in the area are going to be the lifeblood of the restaurant. Choosing a theme which turns the locals off is not going to work.

Doing an otaku theme in a neighborhood where otaku roam (Akiba is going to be crowded and pricey for real estate, maybe somewhere else?) and maybe doing Asian dishes some from anime/manga and some from you and the wife's background sounds like a good mix.

Hmmm, maid fusion sounds interesting. Decorated with Dolfie and figures, cool... you'd need to be careful how you did that though so it didn't just become a clutter.

Goals for the next few years:

2009 - Finish major component of Industrial Design degree, preferably with a GPA above 5.5.
2010 - Complete missed subjects (stupid engineering second major, not my greatest plan ever): graduate. Pick up some more freelance graphic and interior design work. Maybe look to getting a part-time job in industry for experience, but we'll see where the crunch goes first.
2011 - Still hazy, if I'm in work then keep going there. Otherwise take some time to travel, considering applying for the Antarctic Mission for six months.
    2012 - Job in industry.

    Eventually I'd like to start my own design firm. Get to the stage where I can pick and choose projects as well as work on my own stuff... that's the dream anyway ^^;

Not to be a wet blanket or anything but I vaguely remember reading in Anthony Bourdian's Kitchen Confidential something to the effect that if you have money to lose, the thing to do is to open a restaurant. Lots of upfront costs (venue, COD terms for supplies, labour, HSE compliance etc.) which means the operation has to generate cash from the get go. But I'm sure you'll figure it all out, execute beautifully and look forward to visiting your restaurant during my next Japan trip! :D

Tiny question, I never really understood why you began creating your own cms. Did you feel as if other software packages were lacking? How do you deal with competing against open source stuff like Drupal? Seems like a rather difficult field to prosper, honestly.
Either way, good luck with your goals, the future smiles brightly upon those who are passionate.
