Her posts are quite interesting to read. DC only allows one picture per news, too.

Reference to the Puchi Blurbs talk, Mimi's coverage isn't advertisement in my opinion.

Yeah it personally annoys me to see people posting frequently, or posting material that no one really cares about, and, with each post, advertising their blog... when what's in their blog isn't even relevant to the post itself.

Our club has been around since 1990 or so. Of course, we started with all VHS and have been making the transition to DVD since it started becoming popular back in the day.

We get funding from our school other sources like food sales. Mostly from the school.

It's large, yes. The largest, I'm not sure. I know some people who have collections going back to LD's and video tapes. In fact my own collection is quite large and in DVD's alone is probably larger than two small bookcases. If you buy this stuff long enough your collection gets huge. It's still a nice collection.

Of course, our claim is a bit unsubstantiated but don't be fooled by the pictures. We have 6 shelves of anime DVDs.

We also have a large collection of VHS and LDs even though we're trying to lose the VHS. We also have classic VHS fansub which can't be found anywhere convenient today.

There are probably bigger ones out there, but as long as they're not advertising it we'll be glad to post it up.

Remember that MIT is about studying, not amine. While it's ok to spend some time on this you should remember that studying has first priority. In fact studying takes some disipline. I have seen several students who moved away from their parents in order to study and they ended up using their time on beer, World of Warcraft and other similar stuff. Eventually most of the people doing that dropped out. It's stupid to do so because at least some of them were bright enough to finish.

The total opposite is bad too. If you do nothing but studying then you aren't studying well either because the brain needs time to relax once in a while. Also you need to have a social life. People who skip social life can really be a pain to work with later on. I don't know if they skip social life due to their personality though but it's a fact that some companies cares for social life when hiring people.

You should come to UC Berkeley, Cal Animage Alpha is probably the oldest anime club in the West Coast (this year is our 20th anniversary, it's older than me!) and I'm an officer. Unfortunately we don't have a spiffy club room and we've been losing members because everyone downloads their shows now . . . trying to switch to a more social club, but it's mostly officers who participate in events, so maybe a talk by Mr. Choo will help things along? ;D

Anyone can join since we're a public university, so if you're in the East Bay area you should come to our showings (although personally I advocate Game Night, since it's much more social and you can interact with fellow officers) More info at http://www.ocf.berkeley.edu/~animage/ If you see me feel free to say hi and that you're a DC user. Sorry for the shameless plug. ^^

That's true. USC's Anime Club has gone through a modest revival in recent years. A lot of the more important club events are the more social events like karaoke night or something.

Yeah..... we're a very small club, no "spiffy club room", but those who attend these events get to know each other very well. Club unity and all that.

If I recall, we're Cal Animage Mu, but I'm not so sure what happened to that name..... kinda disappeared.

Am I the only one that saw this one coming? I mean, seriously, how many nerds do you think are really in that school. O.o; Hopefully it isn't like the anime clubs around here that are full of 45 year old perverts and 14 year old girls that both show up to watch the exact same anime... x_X; This is what swayed me away from joining certain schools...

I am very impressed. If only the anime clubs around here were more like that. Not that watching fansubs on a projector with 30+ other people isn't fun. If I had the chance and money to go to MIT, this club would probably be the deal breaker !!

Looks to be a decent size, but I've known individuals with bigger collections, from what I can see... even if you only count their imported stuff. I'm actually scared to think what their collections would be like now, with 10+ years for them to grown. Heck, one guy had enough porn manga alone to fill those shelves.

My old fanclub is a bit scary, now that I think about it.

I wonder why you get the cool clubs. I looked at the clubs at my uni and they aren't that interesting :(
    I only found stuff like:
computer (went there... got bored with stuff like in the Ubunchu story)
singing (they call it that, but I heard them practice :P )
    music
    poker
    role playing (like D&D)
    theater

With stuff like that I ended up spending all my time at campus studying and doing all the fun stuff at home. I once considered role playing but it turned out that the club only contained weird people, who made D&D cosplay and fights... not what I wanted.

Do you guys have the same issues with university clubs?

The RIT manga library is slightly bigger since the MIT one does not receive funds for manga. However, in pure content, if the RIT online library site is correct, the MIT DVD library is about 5 times larger, and this doesn't include the bulk of the collection, which is other media. The pictures show barely a fraction of the full library.

o__o Nice full shelf of manga! and in a university too! I never heard of such thing exisitng.. back in my college years, our anime club got cancelled because of very few members (and it was on its first day and in an art college. Still unbelievable.. and very sad)

It totally changed my view of MIT too. I thought MIT was the place where everybody study hard and no 'entertainment' available.
