      I think I ended up spending between 40,000 - 50,000 Yen, which translates as roughly £270 - £340.

But I got some brilliant deals for some things. Like Nendoroid Yoko was going for 1,980 Yen, when Nendoroids normally go for around 3,500(ish) Yen, meaning I got her for about £13.

My first Japan loot was some magazine and artbooks, and a huge bag full of gashapon, still in their individual casings, which I hand carried because it would take too much space in my suitcase. I can still remember the weird look they gave me every time I passed the x-ray points XD

I seem to have the opposite experience of everybody. For my first visit to Tokyo/Akihabara, I had made a giant list of all sorts of games and anime stuff I wanted to shop for. I was very surprised to see that for the most part, used Japanese game prices are roughly the same as what I can find online (i.e. expensive). When I saw the rows and rows of anime merchandise, virtually none that I recognized, I realized maybe I'm not that much of an otaku at all lol! I ended up buying only a handful of things game or anime related.

My first loot from japan? Man, that was a while ago. It was hen I took part in a school exchange around 10 years ago and most of the stuff I brought back were family gifts...

Lots of host school items were taken back (Seifu Nankai in Osaka for those interested) such as calligraphy sets, lots of photo albums, bottles of Sake (even though we were actually underage at the time) and Shinais (Bamboo blades used for kendo. Mine still gets used!!!)
On a more personal note, I bought myself a sega dreamcast and 4 games. Sega weren't doing too great back then either so I managed to get a pretty sweet deal. I also bought shining force 3 part 2. A japanese only release for the saturn and thus started my heavy games importing (and my japanese was far worse than it is now)

Very nice loot ;p Lots of Gurren Lagann stuff ^^

My first loot from Japan wasn't that big. Back in november 2006, it consisted of a special Suzumiya Haruhi bag that was sold for one week in Akiba (which is quite precious ;p) The rest were a few cds&dvds, some manga books, an art book and some magazines. It was just one week Tokyo back then, so the loot wasn't very big (no Ayu concert yet, which was to be the next May in 2007).
Can't wait to be back in Japan, Tokyo and Akihabara, which is only 9 days away. Next week on Sunday I'll be going to Japan again for 2.5 weeks ^^

The loot I brought back from Kanazawa to the US was mostly books. All of boogiepop, Lodoss, Chrno Crusade, and EVA 1-11 (At the time I didn't realize that they manga hadn't finished. Now I need to work out some way to get the rest at some point). Book Off FTW!

Used books seem to be in much better condition in Japan. Aside from the fact that they weren't wrapped up, all of these books look brand new. I wonder if there is a sociology paper in this...

    Nice first Japan loot.
My first loot consisted of mostly flat objects, books, and doujinshi since I happened to go during comiket 75. Bought a few hard to find figures from those 2nd hand stores, and a new ones as well. Memory stick for my camera, cuz I was running low on storage space.

From what you've said about Akihabara, it reminds me a lot about Sim Lim Square back at Singapore. It was really quiet during the past, and it's all about electronics, such as lighting, drainage stuff and all. Nothing much to do with computers.
