Awesome post Danny!! Love Transformers since I was born... Thanks for the tip about the Soundwave MP3 player. The first and only time I got screwed on eBay was when I pre-ordered that thing. Never got it thought I constant contact with the seller. Long story... Really love your food pictures, it brings back memories... Nice bikini bottom!! :D Your dauthers will look great in that!!

Ahh looking at the food makes me hungry >< Cinema drinks are expensive and since it's Japan, I think it's gotta be more expensive there than the ones in my country I guess ._.

Anyway, great photos and good luck with your Tokyo Figure Show with Good Smile :D

In my region we can't bring drinks and food we bought somewhere else. Kinda lame if you ask me cause I don't really like paying 2.40$ CAN For a bottle of water. We bring some small candy and such but gotta be careful not to get caught and thrown out of the theater or if you bring chocolate be careful cause you don't want it to melt in your pockets!! :P

The thing is that theatres make very little money from ticket sales - most of it goes directly to the distributors. The only way theatres make profit is through concessions - the food and drinks you buy from them, at an inflated price.

If you bring outside food, you're not giving them money, and they're not making any. Sooner or later they go out of business. ><

Not that I'm one to talk - I never buy theatre food myself, and I've been guilty of sneaking food into theatres on more than one occasion. Just trying to tell it from their point of view.

I managed to sneak in an ice cream from ColdStone once into a theater. The movie was close to starting and I had just bought a small cup of ice cream. I wasn't about to throw it out since we weren't allowed to bring food in. I was able to hide the cup in my trench coat pocket.

Retro transformers for me, although I don't mind the new films for some metal action. Convenience stores over here don't really have all those food options, the best we get is probably sandwiches.
Those photos from the windows of the "office" are very nice, how did you take the photos without getting a reflection from the window?
Just seeing all that wax, I could just imagine if my friend were standing infront of that shelf, he'd probably be on his knees crying with joy. He tends to use Gatsby wax exclusively and it's so hard to come by in Sydney, we once walked around for 30 minutes looking for a store that had it in stock. I don't spend alot of time doing up my hair, most of the time I don't even do it up!
Lazona looks awesome as always, I love the atrium it has and how it is lit up. It seems that shopping centres in Japan open till rather late any day of the week.
Great photos of the food again and thanks for sharing photos of the week.

O_O New MBP crashing? But does this mean the images origin is back from the OS 10.4 days? Highly not recommended to completely transfer stuff. If something was nuts on the Tiger installation and you have choosen the "Upgrade" install-option it's must likely that you transfered the bugs too.

You can fix it with an archive and install. That is, if there's room on the HD for it. Don't wait until Snow Leopard...it's not worth the hassle. Macs are supposed to "just work." Mine does, thank Goddess, and has since I got it in November of '06.

Oh yeah, about the other stuff...

1.) You know you're an old-schooly Star Wars geek when the first thing you think of when seeing "Mos Burger" is _Mos Eisley_ Burger. Those patties are perfect for a bagel-burger. Do they do bagels in Japan?

2.) Veggies, fish and brown rice are ALWAYS good. I had chicken curry over brown rice for din-din tonight. Made a couple of days ago and now the flavor has set up perfectly. Om nom nom.

3.) At Cold Stone here in the US we don't have song and dance men or women. Gyp.

4.) Yumiko-tan needs a yukata but those are cinchy to sew. It's all rectangles. I have a book which has the patternless formula to make one. Gotta get around to doing it though.

5.) What are those doll clothes for? Looks like they are either made for 23 or 27cm. Why don't things like that get imported Stateside! Saw some neat stuff for my littles there...WANT.

6.) Saw the GI Joe trailer with the Star Trek reboot movie. No go joe. Same with Transformers...ugly, ugly re-designs. Love the old schooly Transformers WAY more than current crop of CGI for CGI's sake buckets-of-bolts.

7.) WRT Kamen Rider belt: Yeah, like the flashing lights and basic design but the sound box would get very annoying very quickly. Might want to hack in an on/off switch for sound. Your fellow troopers will thank you. And those polycarbonate tubes that lightsabres have really can HURT if you get whacked with one. Even through plastic armor. Avoid pissing off your local Jedi. ~_^

I watched the first Transformers Movie and I was what did they do? This isn´t a damn movie where they should show of that they can do great special effects, this is a movie about Transformers!!

Sorry to hear that the MacBookPro crashed. I´m no computer expert but can it be some kind of issues with compability between different hardware?

I know you should be able to restore a mac configuration to any mac, but it might be to far away from the different versions?

And they´re releasing a new OS? Sounds nice, then they can charge a bit more...

Nice footage of the food. Made me hungry. I just wish that it weren´t any clamps in the spaghetti dish, otherwise it looked lovely.

1.Here, in Toronto you could get an iPhone 3G (not S) for only 99 dollars with a contract. I wonder if this is a good deal as for an iPhone...
2.About recycling. Our city workers are on strike I think 3 weeks now. Public garbege has not been picked up. I miss good old days, beause downtown Toronto looks pretty nesty at some places.
3.Havent seen Harry Potter. It only came out 2 days ago...I kind of miss the theatre.

Wow, so many things to comment on, I couldn't be bothered to organize them, so I'll write as I go along:

I can never understand wearing suits in a humid climate. Fortunately my job only requires me to wear a shirt without tie, and I roll up my sleeves during summer.

The Transformer movie designs already looked a bit dizzying on film, it was even more so as toys. Hasbro ought to sell the retro G1 design ones as well as they will always be the favourite of most people.

Speaking of the food vending machine, this reminds me of Index inserting money in, but all the buttons were on a touch screen and she had no concept on how touch screens works.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=631OLMfzBj8

Wow, doughnut burger? Must feel funny to eat a burger and then feeling a blank space in the middle of the meat when biting through.

Once again, another awesome piece of JR train jingle video you got there Danny.

Personally I feel Half Blood Prince to be the best HP movie so far, Order of the Phoenix was just as good, partly because of director David Yates. It is suitably much darker as reflected in the books, and I believe the series is in right hands with Yates in charge of the final two-parts of Deathly Hallows.

I also like Alfonso Cuaron's adaptation for Prisoner of Azkaban.

I really disliked the Goblet of Fire because of its length and largely nonsensical subplots, both book and movie. Despite his past credentials, like Four Weddings & A Funeral, I thought Mike Newell did poorly for Goblet of Fire.

The first two movies by Chris Columbus were just mundane page for page adaptation, I might as well just read the books alone.

So in that order, for the HP movies out so far, for me it's: VI > V > III > II > I > IV.

don't think Tokyo is that humid though. It is not tropic or sub tropical even.

Maybe I am wrong about it not being humid in the summer though, could be.

Nice post. About the food ordering thing - me and a few friends once went to a resturant in shinjuku, but there were no english menus or pictures. Randomly picked several dishes out, and most were fine, except the horrible looking steamed fish head with eyes and spiky teeth!

Ill stick to places with plastic food outside from now on :-)

Really good post. Danny, i like the photos that has food with figure on side, this make me feel like the food is more tasty.

And about Transformers, i prefer the old one because i think their design are not as complicated as the one now, because when i watch ROTF , the chaos battle scene sometimes make me cant reconize the face of some characters because its too complicated.

Luckily they are down to where they just look like body blushing. Still...ugh.

Folks...WASH your DD clothes before introducing them to your DD (or Obitsu) daughters. Suggestion: 1/2 vinegar 1/2 water rinse too to fix the colors. Rinse the stuff off until water runs clear. Then rewash to get the vinegar smell out.

Food experimentation is fun! Your friend who suffered 5 days of fast food really missed out. I'm not too keen on using hair styling products. Its an upkeep that I'm not willing to pay for. After I lost my ponytail, I had hair that only looked good and didn't cover my right eye if I used something to style my hair. I ended up trying Gatsby Moving Rubber for the first time. Ah..food in Japan, it's quite an experience.

I had my share of "Lost in Translation" moments while i was in japan early this year. But one thing that i was pleased about was that i did preety well talking and understanding japanese with only about 5 years of subtitled Anime watching, Jpop translations and a small phrase book.

The only problem was i couldn't read japanese, so food menus in Izakayas were "meaningless" ...hahahaha >.< ...all i did was ask for some chicken, pork and a tall glass of "Hoppi"...

Ahhhhh...that's what you should try when your up and about in Tokyo

Wow, That mall courtyard looks a lot like one I saw in Sidney. Open to the sky where there is not a lot snow to contend with.

I like the newer Transformers look. When they first came out, I wasn't really impressed with them. Got interested more when "Beasties" aka "Beast Wars" came out a few years back. Ran for several seasons. Was completely CG like "Reboot". (same people did both.)

Plan on seeing HP next week. (Just started a week vacation. Yay!)

They are re-doing the concrete on the balconies over the last 2 years (14 story condo) so during the day, I get to listen to sound of jack-hammers, and keep the windows closed to keep the dust out. (and no A/C) it's been cool and wet so far here, so heat hasn't been too much of a problem..

Think I'll go to "Takara" for steak and tempura tomorrow. (Japanese restaurant in the Byward Market.

Wow this is one of the best "Week in Tokyo" posts. Chun is so talented, I am always impressed by her work. I love the candid shots you took the most but the other pictures (and funny videos =p) are great too. If you can't live in Tokyo, this is the next best thing.

my BF and I particularly like the picture of your Korean meal, Danny. tell me, how is the quality of stuff like bibimbap over there? we have some decent Korean restos here but sometimes the prices are prohibitive......

I like that yukata. Been wondering if I should save up for one, since there's only a limited selection to be had at one of the weekend markets we go to....

I like the Lazona pictures a lot, particularly the view from the vending machine deck. would love to check out the food court too.....

    not sure xD

I remember the first time I visited Japan, I was there with my mom, my mom's friend and her two children.

My mom had been to Japan before so she was used to the food ticket machines, but unfortunately, they only provide you with the food, not the drink.

The restaurant offered us tea, but being the person my mom is, she preferred water instead. But she had no success in letting them know.

Luckily, I had been watching Shaman King before we went to Japan, so I managed to remember the word "mizu" and that got my mom the water she wanted. :3

A few days later, we went to Yokohama's Chinatown trying to find a very good ramen shop, but instead of finding it, we found another one where all the text was in Japanese- fortunately the people sitting next to us spoke Mandarin and somehow we managed to get really good food <3

    The last time I went to Japan was better- we were more prepared and went to restauraunts that had a little English, or at least some kanji ^^;

Danny: Get that Decadriver and a K-Touch accessory. That way, whenever you feel like transforming into another version of the Stormtrooper, you'll have a reason to do so. "Kamen Ride: V-V-V-VADER!"

It helps if you can sing like GACKT while doing so, though. ^_^

I would be strongly against watching the G.I.Joe movie if you are a major fan of the 80's TV/comic series (Like myself), as I'm not a fan of the director (I've hated every Stephen Sommers movie that's come out except for the first Mummy, which was passable). I've seen a couple of trailers and my mind is just screaming to murder whoever thought this was a good idea in the first place. And unlike the Transformers, there isn't any robot action to pacify me.

How about an article on how the site runs? Where and how it it is hosted, your home setup, those blindingly fast fibre lines. Would make interesting reading, I think.

really love looking at your pictures when you're out and about. Some of the pictures of the locale, food and places really make me want to visit Japan at least once in my life just to get a sight of all these interesting places.

    Keep up the good work

"Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" was pretty good, although it lacked so many details. The thought that they're splitting the last volume into two movies might do justice to the series.

Transformers-wise, I prefer the retro series. The Michael Bay incarnations of Transformers look like twisted humanoid metal that bares little resemblance to the original characters. (Heck, even Beast Wars got it right!)

As for "G.I. Joe," I never really got on the toy and TV bandwagon. The trailer looks awesome though, so I might just go and see that movie. Besides, who doesn't like super-suits, maniacal terror villains, and ninjas?

Hurm... Kawasaki Lazona... I might check it out if I ever get to go to Japan...

Harry Potter was good, but had many holes IMO. They cut the wrong things, and left in a few references that should have been nixed. Also, why blow up the Burrow? That wasn't in the book at all? WTF? Hope the two-parter for Deathly Hollows is done right.
I am a retro-TF all the way. The new ones are okay, but I grew up on the originals. At least most of the voices are right.
I have some G.I. Joe toys from the classic 3" era. I'm trying to find them all, because I know I had a second jeep, another towed gun, and parts of the jetpack set are missing. The new movie looks interesting, will probably see it.
Oh, and can you ship me some of that food? It looks really good.

I love the plastic food at the front of the restaurants. Just got back from Japan today and was happy to see your "A Week in Tokyo" back in full swing. I used the point method on some plastic food when I or more rightly wifey could work out what it was called. We had mostly hits although we get get cold noodles on a couple of occasion... They need heat wave lines for the hot dishes! hahaha. All in all I couldn't say I had a bad meal in Japan just different ones. Pork Ramen is my favorite... not sure how to write it but I can say it!!! Thanks Danny - oh and as soon as my camera battery is recharged I will post on my blog all my loot! I'll leave you with the fact that FIGMA sales probably went up in the last week!

I guess I prefer the new design, G1 are too blocky too outdated. Rewatching G1 series is similar to popping in sleeping pills. Only a few of G1 episodes is interesting. Like Takara to make more masterpiece though :D

I've noticed that most Japanese blogs seem to include food in some way and they always manage to make one crave it >.<;;; On that note, the tofu looks yummy.
Portable ashtrays are sold here but, it's more "sophisticated" people who tend to use them. Do admire Chun's brilliant work on Mirai-chan's bikini pantsu, the quality especially!
Would love to get a screen protector as peering eyes gets to me ^^;; Prefer the older designs of Transformers more but, there are some good new designs too~

Great post. I've always preferred the old Transformers designs. In fact, in the new game they have a downloadable where you can play as G1 Transformers. Checked it out and thought G1 Starscream looked incredible. Now I really wish Michael Bay had gone with original designs instead of random twisted masses of metal. :(

My wife and I just spent a two week honeymoon in Tokyo and we loved it, though I came out with one question. What is the popular song that is played constantly everywhere, most often in Harajuku and Shibuya? Because it was so ubiquitous, it slowly drove my wife insane, therefore I'd like to get it to set it as my ringtone to make her even crazier.
