It does seem a little surprising that the theater is empty in a Japanese cinema.
I thought that only happens in aussie.
Doesn't happen in Singapore very often as far as I remember, even the common MRT station shopping small cinemas gets full most of the time. lol

Btw, yeap watched Star Trek... its soo so good.
Love every min of it... Being a Heroes fan does make seeing "Sylar"(Spock) seem a little funny at times and nostalgic too... haha

Apart from the superb CG, I thought that the story is very very good too. With the story, they set the stage to a possibly new series of Star Trek (You know what I mean if u watched the movie).
      Catch it, its a keeper...hehe

Not thrilled about this movie at all. I'll keep myself to the book which, honestly, was mediocre at best. That car garage sounds interesting, I wonder if anyone ever got the wrong car by mistake.

When I went to NYC in 2003 they actually had a garage like that at our hotel in Manhattan. Cept this system makes the one they had in that hotel look like a caveman rubbing 2 sticks together versus walking around with a Zippo.

Gee Gee Gee. Star Trek is great. The movie was very character driven for being an action movie, base on an old tv show where people sit around and talk most of the time.

Also Cinema Buff. Totally. IMAX is expensive, but worth every penny every time I go.

Generally have good experiences with movies. There have been the occasional rowdy teens who think it's awesome to just make the experience worse for everyone else, but for the most part enjoyed the movies without problems. Do watch Star Trek! It was entertaining for both Trekkies and non-Trekkies :).

Cards are still widely used here in Seattle, but lately because of the "global economic crisis" a lot more restaurants are raising the minimum fee for cards... which for some is a way of forcing people to pay more tip.

I saw Angels & Demons last Saturday. We went to a pretty quiet out in the boonies theatre, so it wasn't that busy. I thought it was so-so. The first one had more creativity and wasn't stuck in just one place.

After that showing we "suddenly" decided to watch the Star Trek movie again. It was my 3rd time seeing it ^^; It was quite good even though I'm a Star Wars fan. Highly recommended to see at least once!

Most places here are card friendly, though they may ask you to have a minimum purchase for card usage. Depending on where you go really...

Caramel popcorn?? In theatres?? Why can't they have it here??? Sakanafish! And I use to share my money with my brother and vice versa. We take turns on paying.

I really don't have an interest in seeing Angels & Demons, but I can say that Star Trek was awesome! Definitely, a must see even if you're not a Trekkie (I would say that it's better if you're not one). As for annoying movie-goers, I generally ignore them and leave it to others to deal with--if I'm really into a film, then it takes a lot to distract to me. But, usually, I go to see movies at times where there are few other attendees.

Wow, Mrs.Choo really love hot & spicy food ^_^

Card payment is pretty much widely use in M'sia, but I still prefer HK's multipurpose Octopus card~~~

Since I get Suddenly Acquired Movie Tickets, I always have the chance to watch most of the movie few weeks before the national release ^_^

    Star Trek is epically AWESOME!!! Highly recommend, but dont blame me if you are converted from Star wars ^^;

LOL @ the baby dropping sign...

I encountered a few gits, but not as often anymore since I always watching the premier which all guests are invited VIPs. The most often git will be people sitting on my seat, I will just kindly say: Excuse you, you're on my very seat". Secondly will be people shaking their leg behind or beside my seat, I will just turn & stare at that person for seconds or the condition get worsen, I will stand up. So far I haven't had any necessary to call the security.

Sadly I was disappointed in Angels and Demons compared to the book, but I realize that cause of costs and length they probably couldn't give the book full justice. Otherwise besides the beginning and the end the major events had been done the same save a few role changes. Even though I was kind of disappointed I still enjoyed it nonetheless.

Angels And Demons is a great film. Well, I'm not sure about The Da Vinci Code since I have not seen or read it yet, but I guess it's good as well. Will be picking both books for a read I guess.

I would only go to the cinema with friends who are mature and considerate enough to keep quiet during the screening. There were several occasions where there were groups of students talking so loudly that I couldn't enjoy my movie in peace. I kinda wonder why death scenes make people laugh, especially students -_-?

Certainly I watch movies in the theater for those that I'm excited about. Otherwise if I learn of the movie after it's theater time, them DVD it is. xD

There have been a load of movies out that I wanted to see recently, which had me in a cinema every week for the last month, which is unusual for me since I don't generally go out to the movies, I am more of a dvd buff. However I did go and see x-men and star trek which were awesome, but haven't yet booked going to see Angels and Demons, since my course deadlines all picked this week to happen. I loved the books, but am unsure of how well the movie will turn out. I remember the DiVinci code as a movie was enjoyable, but not up to scratch with the book. Me I usually don't encounter...ehrm gits (new term for me). Like ever. Unless of course it's a Friday and the theatre is stuffed with loud and annoying whipperschnapper teen punks that I can't do anything about. Then again, I don't think I'd ever try to confront anyone sitting next to me that's causing any sort of nuisance. Cause that's how I roll. On the down-looooooow...

Star Trek was pretty win. Especially for non-Trekkies like mineself who have nothing to compare the film with.

Here in the Philippines, one will often hear loud music emanating from motorcycles. It's somewhat a "trend" here to install lights and speakers on motorcycles and play music out loud. It's pretty weird though. The government recently banned playing karaoke outside and yet they're not doing anything about those motorcycles. I'm not complaining though. It's just that there's a time and place for everything~ x_x

I personally prefer carrying cash then bringing a card. Well, this is coming from a guy that doesn't yet have a credit card :D

I'm not much of a movie-goer. I often wait for the movie to show on TV some months after it premiers in cinemas. But it just really depends whether or not I have free time.

As for annoying movie-goers, since I don't go to cinemas often I really don't mind them. I just let other people get their attention.

I have to try those automated car parks when I go to Japan someday! XD

    I've seen Toho Theater somewhere before! It must have been in a Japanese drama or movie. Can't think of which one though...I just remember the area in this (image ID#26480) picture and maybe two guys fighting over a girl or something. That's going to bug me. XD;

I'll be honest- I only want to see Angels and Demons for Ewan McGregor. :x

Star Trek was good (I wouldn't say it was as awesome as some of my friends made it out to be, but it was worth seeing). I might have to see it again though, because I saw it at the drive-in theater, at which, I get distracted by the night sky and people in the their cars around me (which detracts from the movie). heh.

At one movie I had to ask one lady to, "Please be quiet," because she and her friend kept talking through the beginning of the movie. It was unsettling for me at the time, because I was so shy and quiet, so it pretty much ruined the rest of the movie for me (I got over it though and now I love that movie).

I want to see Angels and Demons, but I thought about reading the book first. But since I am not a passionate reader of books, I guess I will just watch the film.

I believe that one would survive only with a card in my country. Of course, going into small shops and delis would be out of question, but almost everywhere you look is a supermarket big enough to accept paying by cards. Vast majority of restaurants accept cards too, and specialised shops do as well, so it is hard to imagine that one would have a problem getting by with just a card. Though, it would be a little inconvenient.

Love to see more on the automatic car parking, here we have huge parking lots (car parks) that are totally free to goto see a movie or visit the mall. The days of downtown malls and parking garages are long gone (two here were converted to insurance company offices) its all about the big block stores and as far as the eye can see a sea of parked cars.

BTW how did you get a camera in the theatre? Wasn't the theatre worried you were going to try to pirate the movie?

Over here, they wont even allow you to bring big bags in (they will inspect what is inside) if you insist on bringing it along.

    I watched both movies.
Star Trek was good. I understand why it scored as high as it did on Rotten Tomato (a 96/100 is high)
In Toronto, some of my friends are like, boo Star Trek. To me, I tell them, don't think that this is another Star Trek movie, think of it as an new series of films not the TV series. It has some relations to the original Star Trek but I see where the film and the TV series goes there different ways. If you think it's just a regular movie, it's pretty enjoyable but also enjoyable if you know it's another Star Trek movie. The new younger actors actually does a great job on portraying their TV series counterparts. Danny, I recommend you watch Star Trek!!!
Angels and Demons was great. Being a fan of Star Wars as well, it's good to see Ewan McGregor in the film.
The overall movie was pretty good. Some stuff I never expected happening did.

So the cars are on a system like the bikes outside train stations? That's rather cool. You don't have to memorise which floor you're on or which pillar you're parked by.

My parents have three bank accounts between them. (Not including savings accounts, business, etc.) They both have a personal accounts and a shared account. Anything they want to get for both of them/the house comes out of the shared account, unless one of them is treating the other. Personal accounts are for personal stuff, although they will lend one another money for something or rather like groceries or petrol.

I think that general idea of having three accounts between a married couple is better, mostly because then if only you want something, you don't have to annoy the other person by using some of their money to buy it.

Am quite the "Star Trek" fan so loved seeing the franchise revived with a great movie like this one (and I'm not one to be bothered by the fact it branches off from the original series).

If I go to the movies I make sure it's a movie with a digital projection, a movie ticket here costs about as much as the DVD so I don't think it's justified to pay that much if the projection is crap. If it's digital it's flawless so then I do go and watch.

    Went to watch angels and demons last weekend, I have to say it was a great movie. went with my sister though, since waifu wasn't at all interested. ^^;
about Star Trek, I would recommend watching it on the big screen. imo (although I would bet Gordon would disagree with me on this) it was better than Wolverine or Angels and Demons.
about having separate bank account, my waifu and I have a joint account, we do have our own separate bank account. I use to think that a separate account wasn't needed when one gets married, however since each person has a obligation to his or her previous family. the separate account would help keep tab or act as a buffer on familial monetary allocation.

Nice, they allowed you to bring a camera inside the cinema and take pictures. This is not possible in our area. So when I plan to watch on the big screen, I leave my camera behind since I dont like leaving it with the guards.

As for the card question...in NZ we're very focused on EFTPOS/Debit cards...probably because the credit card interest scares everyone from them...but yea...almost every shop now has card machines and if I feel adventurous I might get a bit of cash out instead of using my debit card...but its almost pointless.

As for the movie...watched it today, I prefered the Angels and Demons Book over its counterpart but the movie did the book no justice (although the book wasnt anything amazing to begin with)...the plot twists were too blatant and badly scripted.

But...lets be honest...if you read the book, you're the same as me and you only went there to see the (SPOILER-ISH) asplosion...absolutely loved that bit.

Wonder how many people actually read this speal...

Must be nice to have Sudden Appearing Cameras. Just hope they don't pop out during bath.

Touhou cinemas.. Me must experience watching movies in a cinema in Japan one day xD
Roppongi Hills is so empty during Friday nights? I personally think Friday night should be spent resting at home - and head out for fun during Sat/Sun. ^^

    Inconsiderate gits.. Not much of a prob - just look at them and they'll stop.. usually. But. BUT. I can't really do anything when they're in a group of 4 or more -___-" I must say you were quite daring to jiggle his... necklace ^^;

Parking system has to be the coolest I ever heard of. Can't imagine how it'll be like if you left something in the car >_> Like say, wallet? How are you gonna take out your car without money? @.@ Whole thing reminds me of Gundam launch sequence tho.

Shared bank account? I'm not really sure bout that - too far in the future. But I'm cool with waifu managing my allowance.(Wonder if allowance will suddenly soar during Valentine's day/anniversary xD) As long as she understands some figures are simply must-haves. I spend very little money anyway(if excluding figures which are less than 5 a year).

Lol at the necklace incident but yeah i'd probably do the same if i'm in your situation.
As for encounters, yeah got one when i had two ladies on the right side talking about the movie as it was going on and
in particular, the Iron Man Movie.
They were talking about the movie itself like:

Lady 1: is that the enemy?
Lady 2: yeah i think it is.... Oh there it is he's the enemy.
Lady 1: Whoa isn't that his friend, that black guy?
Lady 2: Yes that's his friend... etc etc...

It was like "Thanks for pointing it out Capt. Obvious!" I was facepalming and never got to fully enjoy
    the Iron Man movie...

Just a question danny, how were you able to get your camera in the cinema?
here in my country they don't allow cameras (D-SLR or any type) inside the cinema.
Do they allow that in japan?

Yeah, you could probably get around on card alone in Australia as long as you stuck to mainstream places. Personally I don't just on principal. I just seems stupid to pay for things like coffee or smaller food purchases on plastic, not to mention a waste of time... cash really is faster. Some places have a minimum spend on EFTPOS though, if only to make it worth their while, as far as I know there's a small fee with each transaction.

As for annoying people in theaters, I am a big guy and have perfected the art of the obvious stink-eye. I have only had one incident where this did not work and when I asked the gentleman to be quiet he got angry with me and lectured me about rudeness. Shenanigans ensued.

I really want to see this, but havn't seen the first one, don't surpose it matters.
You can get round with just a card easily in the UK, you can even go to a cheap place like subway and pay for food. And if all else fails there is pretty much a hole-in-the-wall everywhere in towns and stuff so you can withdraw cash. I don't think many places take proccessing charges, in fact some places rather you pay by card as it is more secure than cash which could be fake. If the customer can't pay for the card at the end of the month the only people that lose out are the bank. I don't think time of day affects anything when [aying by card.

And Angels n Demons pales so much compared to Da Vinci code. Maybe the actors other then Tom Hanks in A&D doesnt really act that well and at times seems amateur.

Man, this sounds so wrong, but I really want to try those cool carparks! The carparks in Malaysia/Singapore are all still the traditional ones. So you have to drive round and round looking for an empty spot. And after you're done shopping or whatnot, you have to remember where you parked your car...

Annoying noise blasting vans!? I didnt know they existed over there, thought for sure they'd be banned in Tokyo, hmmmm

Plastic is oh to easy to use around here... theres not a place I can think of that wont except it. Perhaps the poopy economy in the states has a bit to do with people just using their cards all to often everywhere and not realizing how much they are spending?

Cinema when its a movie like Star Trek (which I give a B rating) but for most films the DVD in the cozy home is what I enjoy.

We are both cursed with the cinema nuisances! I had one right behind me at Star Trek who began on the previews and couldn't stop laughing at every little thing up until the very end. I wanted to make a comment perhaps even shout but I refrained

I'd never have a shared bank account as my only account. I don't think it's an issue of trust, but rather about maintaining your independence. How would you buy a secret present for someone you shared a bank account with, for example?

I absolutely HATE the idea of being given "pocket money". My dad's new marriage is like that - he has a shared account, and his wife does all the money stuff. He's really into kit cars and went to a show the other month - he was "only allowed" £20 for the whole trip! That's just sad, I think - at his age, money with only one zero on the end shouldn't be something he has to worry about.

I don't like the scenario where I have to justify what I spend my money on. A shared account for bills and food and stuff is all well and good, and beyond that the rest of my money should be MINE, to spend on what I like. Of course I'd never have any qualm whatsoever about lending my girlfriend money or buying her something she wants, and I'm sure she'd say the same about me, but that's different to having everything you ever do with your money available for viewing.

Then again, I'm pretty anti-marriage in general.

Theatre or audience gits seem to like me too especially in movies. One of the worst gits I had to sit by was during the Rememberance Day ceremonies at my highschool to remember fallen solidiers. They were literally laughing and talking about how they couldn't wait to get out and have a smoke. I told them in the smallest voice possible "STFU these people died so you could have your *insert swear word* smoke!". Most of the time though I do my best to ignore these people ^^;.

As for sharing bank accounts. I could never do it ^^;. I know someone who shared and their husband took their money and blew it and bunch of stuff without his wife's knowledge ^^;.

Wow you got Angels and Demons before Star Trek. Other way around here. I usually don't go to the movies but I did for Star Trek, Angels and Demons, and Xmen Origins. I make it a point never to buy any Theater food because 1) It's ridiculously expensive and 2)Way to Unhealthy.

I have had a few people using their cell phones and text during a movie even though there are three times before the movie where they tell you to turn off your cell phone and do not text. Had to quietly tell them to stop because it's distracting me. I usually get the "wth" look but then they comply.

Also I enjoyed Angels and Demons but I did like Star Trek more. Both are still worth seeing in the theater.

Not to spoil or anything, but I don't think they should 'fix' this timeline, as I believe this movie was an attempt to 'reboot' the original series for a new audience. Fixing the timeline is pretty much like dumping on JJ's work on the film =P Definitely looking forward to what will happen with this version's Enterprise crew ;)

With regards to your question about Star Trek, it was FANTASTIC!! If you get the opportunity to see it in the IMAX experience, DO NOT PASS IT UP! It is truly an experience.

That said, with regards to your question about inconsiderate gits, since the theater I frequent has stadium seating, I rarely have the problem with regards to big people sitting in front of me, since the row in front is farther below where your feet are, and you don't get the kicking since there is so much leg room in front as well. I don't think I could live without the stadium seating anymore. Also, I usually go to opening nights or weekends, so most people are polite and quiet (except during action sequences or funny sequences ^^;)

I'm still on the fence about seeing Angels and Demons. I haven't seen the DaVinci Code yet, so I'm not sure if I should see this before seeing that one.

Well, noisy people in the movie theatre, it depends on the theatre. We only have big ones here in Belgium (with 15-25 screens each), and the ones on the outskirts of the city are more "civilized" than the ones in the center of the city ^^; But it's still quite okay. Friday and Saturday are the busy days here. Haven't seen Angels&Demons yet, but I will see it this week probably. Didn't actually know about this movie until I saw all the advertising on my trip to Japan 2 weeks ago ;p

Getting around in Belgium with just a credit card will be difficult as well, a debit card (95%) is much easier (debit card meaning, immediate withdrawal from your bank account), but that still won't cover some shops like news paper shops or food stands. We do also have a "small money" system like a suica-card for small payments (called proton) but it's chip-based and not rfid-based like suica/pasmo. But regular money is always accepted everywhere.

I'm surprised you had to confront him to stop the noise. I saw Star Trek last Friday, in a very empty theater ... admittedly this was a very late showing as my mate was bored and invited me to go at the last minute. I thought it was pretty good and will probably pick it up on blu-ray eventually (if I can afford it after the anime). I can see why die hard Trekkies night not like it though.

I would like to see Angels and Demons but don't know if I'll bother as you get too many idiots in the cinemas around here at normal times.

Not to mention the actual story is just a rip off of another book and the thinking behind the whole concept is completely over thought and very lame. If we went into all this depth for renaissance paintings you could uncover o much bullshit and make up your own story.

I remember seeing a poll and Da Vinci Code was worst movie of the year in Japan and Tom Hanks worst actor. He is a good actor but being serious problem solver is a huge ass problem!

You can buy just about everything with a card in America. In most cases, however, only VISA and MasterCard are accepted due to the fact that DISCOVER and AMEX charges the retailer more for the services.

They even have mobile card transaction devices. Fairly small, about the size of a big cell phone I suppose. There is a charge per transaction for those things though. Often times, they charge the customer for using their card instead of cash. It's usually a small amount, like 40cents. Even some flea markets allow credit card use =)

The last time I had to use cash was at a taco truck, and a small local doughnut shop before that. The doughnut shop had an ATM machine though. ($2 charge >_>)

Using cards to pay is so common here that it's weird to NOT have a machine in your store.

Like what senken reported about Vancouver movie theaters, here Sundays are typically a quiet day, especially from afternoon on. Friday and Saturday are the really busy movie nights, especially if it's the opening weekend for that film and it's six PM or later. This is why matinees are made of win. ^_^

I did go see Star Trek recently and really enjoyed it. I'm not familiar with the franchise though, so I'm not sure what hardcore Trekkies think about it. But the characters were awesome, lovable but believable, and the character humor perfectly balanced out the action scenes. The cuts in the action scenes were too quick for my taste, as it made things a little disorienting, but the action itself was good. The science was a little. . . funky, but the film as a whole was good enough that I didn't even realize it until after I got out of the theater and went, "Wait a minute. You really thought a ball of ketchup could do all that?"

I saw the movie just recently.

Everytime I see a Tom Hanks movie, I ask myself: What the Hell is Tom Hanks doing here?

And , as we all expected, his trail of thought goes like this: "Hmmm... Icecream!....Icecream, iceaream...Of Course, The coliseum! the coliseum, the coliseum... Yes!It was so simple! Whi didn't I think of it before?! Its in Africa!Kutcher is in Africa!!!"

I was sort of excited to see it, because of the whole illuminati aspect, but was bery bery disappointed, as it was mainly emphasised on the Catholyc Chirch...

I think it would classify under carefully cooked, high budget, Tom Hanks crap. to be precise.

I prefered Angels and Demons to Da Vinci Code, Da Vinci code was... slow... bit boring.... and LONG... Angels and Demons was a bit shorter, and more fun. Plus Ewan McGregor was a bonus lol.

I am a cinema and DVD buff. DVD first I think... but since being at Uni, I've had unlimited access to the cinema. Love it. See more films in a 6 month span than I ever have before in my 19 years of cinema-going life.

Star Trek is EPIC. Truly EPIC. JJ Abrams is a godsend to tv and movies. He truly is fantastic.

Cinema is usually busy on a weekend in the UK. Me and my friend/s usually go in the early afternoon, 1-2pm. Much quieter. More chance of getting empty cinema. I love seeing movies when your the only one in there. Tis epic, tis a nice feeling. (I'm very liberal with the use of 'epic' lol... Shouldn't be....)

While we have big movie theaters with multi-screens, they usually don't put too much effort into the style and architecture here. The trend is to build a huge box-like building, and we've moved away from having smaller facilities in malls and such. You'll see when you're in Canada.

Star Trek was a great summer flick. Lotsa action, and didn't require too much thinking. In fact, thinking too much would ruin it for you as you'd find holes in the storyline. Didn't enjoy Angels and Demons that much, but enjoyed Da Vinci even less. Probably cause we were expecting it to transfer better from book to film. Remembered watching it in Texas, and wanting to leave.

One thing I noticed tho, your cinema food is pretty cheap! It would cost about 1100 Yen just for a drink and popcorn here without tax. That just standard fare as we don't have caramel popcorn and such. However, we do have small franchise venues within that charge an arm and a leg for small pizzahut pizza or small cup of hagen daz icecream. However, I still pay as I luv watching movies and DVDs.

Also noticed there is alcohol on the menu in Japan. They were contemplating selling it in cinemas here, but there is concern that people in N. America would get too rowdy or unpleasant drinking in the theaters. Speaking of which I seldom encounter annoying people, but when I do I just sternly but politely ask them to stop with little fuss. However, some of my friends like to talk during films which I hate as I just wanna watch the movie.

In a city of 30+ million people it is surprising to see that the cinema is empty on a Friday night. Where is everybody?

I love going to the cinema but cannot bear noisy inconsiderate people. Thankfully we rarely frequent the same movies. To guarantee a satisfying cinema experience, we usually go at a time when nobody else will be there - usually early on a weekend morning after a yummy artery-hardening breakfast. No chance of doing that on a Friday night. Friday night at the cinema is yahoo night.

you must watch Star Trek, great storyline. They managed to both acknowledge the previous Kirk and TNG timelines as well as bring in this new era.

In case you are wondering, there is an official comicbook miniseries that explains what happened before the start of the movie. How the Eric Bana evil alien character Nero became bad and how Spock came into the picture. Also tied into the Captain Picard part. Most everything made sense. that's why i liked it.

I almost never use cash. I always keep some in my wallet, but use my AMEX or Visa almost exclusively. I'm pretty good with not spending more than I can afford plus all the plastic I carry usually has some sort of rewards program. My AMEX, for example, gives 3% cash back for when I eat out and 1% back on everything else. I also get 3% back on gasoline purchases.

Star Trek was absolutely awesome. I saw it opening night and then again over the weekend in IMAX. If you haven't been a Trek fan, you'll likely enjoy the movie. It is very fast paced and has a lot for the casual viewer to enjoy. If you're a fan (but not the super hardcore ones that live by canon), you'll also enjoy all the little nods to the TV series and movies.

In particular, there are lots of references to Wrath of Khan (the writers are apparently huge fans of that movie) and little tidbits here and there of Trek culture. Scotty even has a pet tribble (look for it in his very first scene). Many of the ship and admiral names were taken directly from Trek canon (but only if you listened and knew where to look). Majeel Barret has a quick cameo in the movie (the late wife of Gene Roddenberry) as does Chris Doohan (son of James Doohan, the original Scotty).

You should definitely watch StarTrek. Its a great movie and was made for fans and non-startrek fans alike. Although I think hardcore trekkies might find it a bit unsatisfring compared to the other star trek movies.

Ugh, worse experience I had was when I saw "Attack of The Clones". My friend would LOUDLY repeat the lines of certain parts of the movie and laugh maniacally during the whole thing. Not to mention the audio commentary he had on... Let me put it this way: when we used to watch movies with him, he'd be commenting on the audio commentaries... Put me off the LOTR series for life.

In Los Angeles you can get around with plastic debit or credit cards just fine. I've only been to a few restaurants that only accept cash and funny enough their all Asian restaurants.

I'm a total cinema buff, I love going to the theater. However I only go to the theaters that have reserved seating so that I never have to wait in a line. Get on their website, pick out the number of tickets, the exact seats you want, and either print the tickets at home or use the kiosk at the theater to print them out when you get there. I think Arclight Cinema in Hollywood started doing this first but a few others the area are picking up on this as well.

Oh they have proper ushers to escort and assist you in case some git is sitting in your seat ^.^

I go watch the movies a lot in movie theatres and rarely watch DVDs at home :P It's interesting about the reaction from the guy who sat next to you, I mean in Japanese culture, people normally don't tell others on things like that. Here, kids get rowdy and talk aloud and trying to tell them to stop make it worse :P

woaw, can't believe friday's are quiet...there are never any 'quiet' nights at cinema where I go.
Some impressive architecture both out and inside the cinema...nice and clean too, finally went to see Wolverine last night infact - the usual rustle of pocorn/bags, some fool deciding to look at they're iPhone during the film, and to top it off some fool in the projector room screwed up the picture for the first 5 - 10 mins, they'd left it set up for all the adverts (a square image) rather than switching it all to widescreen!

I currently work at a movie theatre where I live and would have to say this Angels & Demons movie hasn't done as great as my boss expected. The only people coming to see it are grandparents, really. It was a bad idea, in my opinion, to release it so close to Star Trek.
I always feel bad about paying with my card... Maybe it's just me, but every time I use it for mundane things such as cigarettes or gum or something cheap the cashier looks annoyed. So I usually try not to use it or really buy anything when I don't have cash on me.

I used to go a lot to the cinema. But I always end up sitting with people that just CANNOT shut up! It's just not worth it to go out of the cinema literally fuming with anger. So these days I much prefer watching DVDs in the relative safety of my livingroom. ^^

Strangely where I live it would that it's generally old people that lack cinema manners. Maybe it's because they go to the cinemas when drunk? I usually wait a bit and give people a bit of a chance before telling them of. I tend to be too nice. Thankfully I often go with a friend whom has a hot temper. He usually tells them of so harshly they almost look like crying by the end of it. x)

As for the credit card issue. You get get around fine without a credit card. Ironically one of the few places that I know of around here that don't take credit cards is an Asian supermarket and a sushi restaurant. :P Much prefer using my card since they risk of being pickpocketed or mugged(granted that's fairly uncommon... i think?).

Phui! What crap. Angels & Demons film and novel have totally different beginning and ending scene. Da Vinci Code is tolerable compare to A&D. I give 2/5 for A&D while 3/5 for DVC. But do watch the new Star Trek movie. I give 4.5/5.

As for the disturbing gits, I would relocate to another seat if the cinema were 2/3 empty like the cinema you were on. Otherwise, I would pull out my mini torchlite and shine at him and ask him to stop it.

I hard they charge you arm and leg for movie at Japan.... like, half Disneyland ticket price, is that true?? was the movie dubbed, Danny??

I'm a mixed of Cinema and DVD (ripped/pirated) person.... back at Jakarta, going to movie was a tad bit more sporadic, basically whenever I hang out with friends, will be more frequent when i got a girlfriend, and whenever I'm feeling bored, or ultimately, when a good movie is coming out...

Now since moving to Singapore, I'm more picky on what to watch, due to the price of cinema, and the theater here are crap... Jakarta got the best cinema, compared to what I had seen at Singapore and US... ^^ Tho the theater pict you took was really awesome... it looks good and spacious... all the cinema at japan like that?? btw, I'm surprised you're allowed to take pict inside Cinema... >.<

Star Trek was nine levels of awesome! You should definitely see it in the theatre because there are some really neat scenes with the enterprise epic-ly gliding through space.
I remember when I was in Japan I had to pay like $80 (American dollars) in convenience fees to my bank back home in order to take money out at the ATM. I couldn't find hardly any places that accepted my Visa Credit card! This seemed weird to me at the time because even in the middle of nowhere in New England cards can be used for everything.

Car parks in Japan looked awesome and is way way far advanced than many other countries. Japan never fails to amaze us on how they are willing to spend the time and $$ to construct such techonolgical wonders.

Hmm, stange indeed to see the street of Roppongi so quiet as u mentioned on a Friday evening. Here, seats are already filling up even before Friday evening whenever there's a new show in town.

Whenever I'm in the theatre, I always seem to draw folks of the previously mentoned kicking-chair variety. And when I saw Star Trek (which is brilliant, by the way! go see it!), I was sitting near a couple of talkers! They chatted amongst themselves throughout the entire movie! Captain Obvious and Lady Redundant, I called them, because they'd always go on about whatever just happened. Should have told 'em to can it, but alas, I'm too shy and nonconfrontational! ^^; Dunno what to say! (the worst bit is that it was an older man and woman, too. Teenagers doing that I can see, maybe, but they should know better by now!)

I enjoyed Angels & Demons, but found I greatly preferred the book. The movie lacks character and doesn't really generate pathos like the book did, methinks. My favourite character actually wound up being the bad guy, but their movie incarnation seemed to lack the novel's charisma and such ^^; Ah, and so many cool scenes were cut, how disappointing! At least we got an extra explosion...

Living here in Bangkok I think the Paragon Cinema is by far the best. When I say the best, I mean the best in Thailand. You do have to stand for the Honoring of the King song they play before every movie followed by 30 min of commercials, followed by a lot of teens who talk through the whole movie even on their phones. I like to get a big bucket of popcorn so I have plenty of "ammo" which can be used to remind people to please be quiet. LOL you should have hit the necklace jangler btw the eyes with some of your caramel popcorn :D

Caribbean Cinemas as an example in my POV:
Aguadilla Mall, Aguadilla, PR: Opened in Mid 1995, consists of 6 small rooms, game room at the second floor

Western Plaza, Mayaguez, PR: Opened in late 1999 as well as the Western Plaza itself, consists of 12 rooms, 4 are the biggest ones, the rest, just small. Subway established a modern franchise by utilising the Horizontal marketing system

The first cinema i visited was the defunct Aguadilla Twins, from 1995-97. Only consisted of 2 tiny rooms, ubicated in the Aguadilla Shopping Centre, where it's in front of Plaza Ferram

The case of in-mall cinemas: 2 of the theatres i've seen were in-mall. First it was inside the Mayaguez Town Centre, the ticket office was outside the theatre, a rectangular-shaped snack bar, with stairs leading up to those 6 small rooms. So did Caribbean Cinemas in Plaza Guayama, which it's been there since it's opening in 1993.

It's fierce rival: CineVista, was competing against Caribbean Cinemas since the 80's, but couldn't outpace Caribbean Cinemas, and in the end, it declared bankrupt and was liquidated at the same time. As evident by the abandoned theatre in Mayaguez Mall that was meant to be functional since it's opening in 1999, and of the renaming of CineVista of Mayaguez Town Centre to "El Cine"

    4 Things:

    1) I seriously need some of those parkings over here... It would be much faster to come and go, and less pissed-off girlfriend asking me why did I parked so far...

    2) Those cinemas looks nice, but I hear they are quite expensive, 'bout 2000 yen per person, right? hm, I only pay 'bout 500 yen over here... but, I'm broke, so, not too cool...

    3) LOL at the baby signs on the bathroom... since I can't read either kanji, hiragana, or katakana yet, my favorite theory of what the whole sign says is: Don't miss watching the baby falling to the floor. =D

    4) Awesome pictures, I'm trying to get some money to buy a nice camera... do you recomend any in particular for shaky hands people like me? =D
