-PHP5/ImageMagickが堪能な方。

事務所には抱き枕、おっぱいマウスパッドなどの2次元系のグッズが置いてあります。これらのアイテムに囲まれても困らない人が必要だな^^;

Looks like it's time for me to start learning MySQL, PHP, and all that ^^" Just kidding, it'll be like a million years before I become proficient at all of that... Japanese would probably help too -__-

If you need a finance/accounting intern or something though... just sayin'. XD Except I guess I don't really have much knowledge/experience with that either since I've only taken math/econ courses so far >_>

Also yay for Ikea! I love how they have cheap food :P

Was calc BC hard? I'm dying in precal this year. (T.T unusual) I think I am gonna take that next year.
I am a sophomore right now so there's still ways to college and a major to decide on, and being asian, you want to be a doctor or a businessman. I still don't really get how the APs work but i guess it saves you time in college, so I'm probably taking 12 by the end of High school (I'm taking European History, Chemistry, and Art History APs this year).

BC isn't hard but its fast paced. Calc is definitely easier than pre-calc, as weird as it sounds. Once you grasp the concepts the rest is smooth sailing...or fun as Ayu says.

Well I'm actually a math major with specialization in economics ^^" I've been thinking about minoring in accounting though... not sure if I have time to squeeze it in though since I'm graduating in like a year and there's quite a few courses they want you to take for the minor :/ I passed my math/econ AP courses too except that just covers most of the lower division stuff... taking a bunch of upper division courses now ^^

    *sigh*

Well, looks like i'm out - I'm a Network engineer, not a Web developer.
    Better luck next time.

Funny that, i'm still considering whether to buy the MARKUS or KLAPPE - How does it feel?
I need to replace my high back version of the MOSES - I've ripped up the faux leather seat pretty badly ><"""

I love how Ikea lays out their stores - It's like walking through a storybook of "How to live your life". You got small 'scenes' of your life all set up and looking nice on your right and the individual pieces to 'build' that life on your left - And that you're forced to walk through the ENTIRE store, it's like the store is saying "See? This is how your home SHOULD look like" thrown into your face each time you step through into the next department.
Then you get to the end where it's "Here's all that big stuff that you can never reach OR carry back home yourself. But hey! we'll show it to you anyway."

yeah... i've had my fair share of good and bad experiences at Ikea

looks like your business is doing really well! good luck with the recruitment, and goodluck to all that apply.

i have a couple of questions which are (stress)barely(/stress) related to this post for danny (as well as the rest of the community).

i am currently studying web design and related technologies (html, css, JS, sql, php, etc) and i was wondering if any particular materials such as books/articles stood out during your early years experimenting with the web that were influential/guiding. for example, I remember seeing your post with you and hector, with hector holding up a book called scalable websites (or some similar title).

also wanted to know what programs you often use (or find essential) when web developing on a mac (i saw you older posts with stuff like double take, smultron, paparazzi,...just wondering if much has changed.

Position sounds like fun, I do well on some of the points but others I totally suck at (I promised I would never touch Linux again after I graduated from college, but anyway windows doesn't seem to be as good as it was before), 2kyuu is giri-giri =D

IKEA is always packed afternoon, due to their affordable meals & free flow drinks~~~

Wow, the layout of IKEA is pretty much exactly the same as the one we have here~~~

Very nice Markus chair, I think I should get it & replace my current one~~~

Great to know you are towards pratical experiences than paper qualifications ^_^

Congratulation on your company expansion ^o^

This is no less than a dream job for most of the DC comrades here, provided they match the minimum qualification for the job.

All the very best to all the interviewers & wish you enjoy the most working with Danny side-bys-side in Mirai Inc ^_^

For the comrades who didn't meet Danny's requirements (big ME), don't feel disappointed yet. There are always the right opportunities out there waiting, you just have to keep on improving what you do best & passionate about & keep an open mind while searching for it.

That list of requirements already makes my head hurt. SO many unfamiliar terms... Well I suppose I still got a ways to go on my education, next year I hit university hurrah! Well I guess this is a good look at how specific a business can get with their employee hiring guideline, especially within one with few staff members. This was another great? learning experience for me. That pie chart idea sounds good.. I always lose track of time when i'm indulging on leisure activities. ^_^" Would the pie chart have to be a large, physical chart?
Good luck to all who apply, hopefully it'll be one from DC.

On another note, looking at those photos from this article and previous, Hector and new member's desk pales in comparison to yours. You've got multiple computers, a corner stacked with figures two dolfie guardians.
The Ikea furniture sold it to me, i've been eyeing at it for quite a while now, just didn't know what pieces you bought. Just a quick question, are those fluorescent lightbulbs in those lamps or just regular? Wonder due to the colour of them.

I definitely do not qualify but it was exciting reading about the job anyway. I think you've represented the position well which is something that I've made the mistake of *not* doing when I was in the hiring mode. It's important to point out the fact that the new hire will have to get his/her hands dirty.

I also like the concept of Danny's Oppai. I'm convinced that if I can follow a schedule like that then my life will change for the better. Balance is important.

Cool article, but it makes me laugh and cry at the same time :P

That job, is pretty much exactly what I want to do in life. All the PHP web development, rolling out platforms, etc etc.

Problem is Im probably less than 10% on the way to getting there. Got my PHP, MySQL and Apache books etc. but theyre kinda just sitting around cause Im working my ass off doing ASP.NET for my current employment. I also dont live in Japan yet, which is something I want to do for at least 3-5 years. Got a blog, but have not made time to write anything recently, which is the easiest way to kill traffic, and let a blog die. Just started 2 japanese courses last week actually, but obviously I cant speak the language yet. So, Im far away from that skillset at the moment, but its already something I have determined to achieve!

Sorry for the ramble people, just felt like getting it out. No excuses though, you either get the job done, or you dont, and to any employer, thats all that matters, so its ASP.NET for me for now. Maybe call you up in a few years time when I am working in Japan, Danny :P

    Ok my bad i'm sure you have but having just the web skills itself + 2kyuu JLPT (which i don't think is sufficient) would mean the candidate may have a fairly decent job already?     LOL @ Danny clone. So the "what are you learning" section in profile wasn't just a random blurb. ^^;

Me should start picking up web design after my exams.. I find the way you employ bery interesting.. Especially "previous education is not that important". I do agree.. Its their profession that matters!

Lets see. The only criteria I qualify would be..
    >interested in Japan and Otaku subculture.
    >attending figure conventions etc
    >doing the small chores.
    Not very good in public speaking ^^;

The Danny's pie is pretty interesting. Though my pie would be 5/6 hours sleep, 8/10 hours school. Minus commuting time 2 hours.. I actually have around 6 hours of time to freely organize.. Hmm..

Aaaaarrrggghhh. I'm still working on my degree. T.T
I know I can meet some of those requirements but I know it won't be enough. I'm still missing some of the big ones there, and I'm still learning Japanese.

All I know is that if there is any design work that needs to be done I think I could handle that with no problems. After more than 5 years of training in that field I better be able to damn it.
Besides the coding part is still a very big obstacle I still haven't figured out how to get around.

And this could have been a perfect job for me.
Then again I'm certain that there are more people that are far more capable then I am regardless of whether I'm qualified or not.

    Lovely office.

As for job qualifications, so close yet so far.
I miss out on Flash, Illustrator, Fireworks, Version Control, Amazon and Flickr API's but I've used Twitters, CGM - not sure what refers too, and VI. I can use Linux, but it's tweakabillity is too tempting and I end up getting nothing done. It doesn't matter though, I can't (yet) speak/read Japanese and I live in Australia, and can't afford to move, so I would be out of the running by default.

Good luck to the perspective candidates, and I hope you find someone fitting.

By the way, I always wonder how Japanese people keep their cars so clean all the time, the cars look like they are all brand new. Is there a special stuff to keep Japanese cars clean?

And finally, great minds think alike, Danny! I ALWAYS wanted to get my hands on that IKEA Markus chair, everytime I visit IKEA I would always try out that chair.

Right now I'm still hesitating whether I should splash out that amount of cash, but for the sake of comfortable surfing of the internets, perhaps I should.

Looks like I will be getting the Markus chair. Been looking for a new chair for ages. Spent £20 on the last one and will never go cheap again.

    A question for Danny also:

How is the glass table top secured to the legs? I'm asking because we are having a loft conversion which may mean I get a room to myself. I've been needing a decent workspace, and your idea doesnt seem too bad.

Good luck in finding a suitable new Mirai member Danny. ^^

I like the 'Danny's Pie' you mentioned (Danny's oppai sound good too but then you'd be a trap.) in the sense that people shouldn't cut into their other time, certainly if it isn't worth it.

I've been neglecting getting enough exercise and studying for Japanese class due to increased hours at work I'm not getting paid for and actually not rewarded for either. Had a very dissatisfying day where I feel I was verbally and mentally abused even though I'm the only one who works that hard and actually cares about the work. So I plan on putting a stop on giving them that extra time of my life if they can't give me courtesy or proper recognition.

I wish I was in Japan, I would so be applying for this. Of course if I was in Japan, probably my Japanese wouldn't have degenerated from JLPT1 level to its current state (I probably couldn't pass the 4 if I took it today), though I'm sure I could get it back quickly if I had reason to.

Surprisingly even though I am a physics grad student i fit most of the criterion. It pays to manage all of the department's web pages, even if they won't let me make them good (they insist that I not change them overly much from how they were when I came, so they still look sucky T_T).

Of course I would probably lose on experience grounds anyway... I've always thought it's kind of irritating that to get the jobs you want that get you the experience and networking to get the jobs you want, you have to have had one of the jobs you want! I have yet to find a hole in this paradox.

I don't think it is strange that a physics grad. student fullfills most of the requirements. I myself also meet most of them, and know a few others at physics which also does. I think physics has a way of attracting the technical geeks :)

It's also good to have a larger set of baseskills when one graduates. I'll propably end up with a job in the field of programming/computer science in the end. I don't see that many job openings for physicists here (Though I would very much like to work with something in my major field).

Now I can see the Future of Mirai Gaia , its going to be a rough road but I think Danny's company would eventually succeed in the near Future . Who knows maybe Danny would become richer than his own father just like Luke finally defeats his own Father

lol! this comment isn't meant to be anal, but I find the connotation funny.
      anyway don't add an "s" on "beside" unless you want it to mean "other than". in which case the sentence would mean Hector isn't working. ^^;

i always get stressed by my busy schedule where another 6 hours from the free 8 hours in danny's oppai was taken by university works, as much as i was stressed how my course stuffed in too many subjects at once. (example : we mastered to model and animate 3d characters in 1 semester). surprisingly I dont meet half of the requirements above....

well, maybe sometime in the future...

BTW, you forgot to mention the maximum acceptable age for the position, surely you wouldn't want to employ someone too old for the job? i think, being too old to apply raises the question about the applicant's own health (of course, needless to say, being physically and mentally healthy is required, right?)

loved this article Danny! got so many things that inspired me in some things, especially about how to manage life and business later on (might want to try thinking about your oppai chart^^). Too bad though my skill sets definitely did not enter your requirements =)

I see you're also utilizing google-jiisan to its full capabilities. most people that I know tend to ask to someone else first rather than try to search their own solutions (where in this kind of case, they ask me though I also don't know about it and I just browse Google to find their answers).

Aw, I would have loved giving this position a shot, unfortunately I don't have the Japanese proficiency : I've taken 3 years of Japanese in high school but didn't continue for a 4th year mainly because the college I went to didn't need a secondary language requirement. Just graduating high school (and money) is good enough. So I pretty much lost touch of my Japanese. I do remember a few things when I watch anime.

And all halogen lights. After switching to all full spectrum fluorescent I don't think I could ever use them again. But it doesn't look like you have enough space to place more lights to match the lumen output.

Danny! Danny, Danny, Danny... Reading your expectations for the future cooperation with your empoyees I truly see that you're really kind-hearted, wise and reasonable. I admire you! And I feel sorry that the rest of the world is not like you. Really! Sometimes when I go to school I think about what would it be like if all the people were like you. Not clones of course but people with virtues and way of thinking like yours.
Your work place looks great and relaxing. Know what, you could get a some speakers and play something relaxing. That could create an atmosphere and make the empoyees and even you feel better. Probably. But maybe some folks can't work while listening to music. Still, I think it's a good idea. I wish I could qualify for the job but I'm no where near the qualifications. I wish good luck to whoever gets the job and Danny, good luck to you too AND your Company!

I have an extremely unrelated question, but maybe only a little now that I think of it.
I'm currently getting myself back in to the Web Dev field (which I've only really splashed around in the shallow end) and diving head long into Japanese studies. I'm noticing a lot of the Japanese sites with English sections that I come across don't seem to be terribly well translated, in fact they're a little nonsensical at times. I have this idea I want to float by someone (anyone?) and you seem to be someone that'd be perfect to float it by, you wouldn't mind giving it a hear out I hope?

Seems a pretty fun thing to work, just sadly I don't get myself much about it.
I learned this and that, much things I've learned, but it turns out if you can't 'manage' your knowledge it'll all flew off....
Oh, well, it seems like I need to start over again if I wanted to be on your side, but when I'm ready, I think someone's already taken the place.
I've long planned to live there, but without a job, I'm just a tourist -.-"

Checked with the embassy here, and they told me that a university degree is not a requirement to get a working visa. However, some companies may or may not hire you depending on if you have one or not. Are you sure it's a requirement for giving out working visas to people who work for your company? Maybe it's different depending on your nationality/company... :S

I believe it does depend on your nationality/company. I know for a fact that US citizens cannot apply for and receive a working visa without a company in Japan sponsoring you. Australians on the other hand can apply for one (I think it's valid for 3 months?) and head over to Japan to look for a job. If they happen to find one, then their visa gets extended. Not sure what requirements Australia has for their citizens to get one though...

This is easily one of the best job descriptions I have ever read. I specifically like the bit where you don't really care about the education as long as the skills can be proven - as these days, learning stuff from Google sensei is way easier than doing it with old practices in schools. I'd love to apply for this - I really would. But I'm not quite at JPLT2 yet - I am guessing this is ultimately very important in order to understand the needs and requirements present from the customers.

I can do it all and more, but not quite there with the language yet. Will you toss my resume or should I try to impress you?

I'm not Danny but I would say go for it. The previous job description was the same - however the chosen one (Chris Gaunt) could not speak much Japanese at that point.

Woah. Got confused about the responses until I looked at the time stamps.

I can only check about half the requirements, so I think I'll stick to airplanes.

The trip to Ikea reminded me SOOOO much of when I moved to Germany...and then when I moved back to the US. "The table just about fits in but we're squashed for the 30 min ride home." LOL!! Been there.

    Good luck to the applicants.

I meet the language qualifications, but even though I've had basic training with the work you're talking about, I'm afraid I might need work on the technical skills. I love Japan and was recently there for a Princeton summer school. I graduate in December and really hope to return soon and find employment! If you ever have any need for an artist around, I would sign up for that in a flash~

I was wondering if you knew where one could get information about unpaid internships in Japan, how should one approach a company regarding this matter? The school where I am at has no exchange student program and make no effort at all at making things interesting, I'm actually taking a gamble taking a internship and might repeat my last year but I cant waste more time here,
