i believe that shinjuku-eki is the busiest. the station was used by an average of 3.64 million people per day in 2007, making it the busiest train station in the world in terms of number of passengers. shibuya ranks 4th.

Judging from the Kanji and the direction of the writing it has to be from after World War II. I'd guess late 40s or early 50s. It's certainly not from the Meiji or Taisho eras.

my professor for History of Science at Tokyo University showed us this picture during one of the classes. You can tell its Shibuya yes by the sign thats says Shibuya Eki but on top of that it says
I no Kashira Sen. which is the current keio inokashira line that links Shibuya and Kichijouji. And judging by the location of that currently and before, it should correspond to the RIGHT of the photo taken by danny :P

since inokashira line was made 1933-1934 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kei%C5%8D_Inokashira_Line not sure on those sources but, it should be taken around before WW2...i guess?

I love seeing photos of cities in the past and the accompanying shots of the current city. It just amazes me to see how much a city can evolve over the course of decades.

There used to be a great blog in Japanese of photos of old buildings and whatnot in Tokyo. Unfortunately my bookmarks were blown away in a hard disk crash and I haven't been able to find the site again.
