I've read about these festivals. Do the young girls get gifts from neighbors/teachers/etc, or is it just the family? (Something I've never had answered.)

Japanese culture is so fascinating. I just love it! I cant wait to go to Japan.
On another note thats sorta on topic... ^^, What time of the year would one otaku recommend another otaku to go? Also, Im setting aside 5000 USD for expenses, that enough?

I'm off to Japan in August for two weeks and I'm taking around £1000 with me which is roughly $1800. My hotels etc are already paid for so the money is purely for spending on having fun. Have known plenty of people who have been already and they say the amount I'm taking is plenty.

Sigh... I wish the Lucky Star's illustration of the chara as Hina Matsuuri dolls is realized as PVC.... I wonder how much Otaku will suddenly celebrate Hina Matsuuri by displaying them, lolol.
Btw, which one is more expensive... These Hina Matsuuri dolls, or Koinobori??

I've already watched a small documentary about the making of Hina Matsuuri dolls at JBN TV (Japan-Brazil Network). It was indeed interesting. ^^

So that's what it's called!
If i have kids of course celebrating something like this is essential.

I had a Japanese lesson on that day and my teacher told use that it was Hina matsuri that day.
As for children, I've got a while to go but one of each gender would be very nice.

Girls are better in Singapore. They don't have to serve 2 years of compulsory military/police/civil defence service and be liable for 10 years of annual in-camp training until age 40.

I would never want a daughter, I would be too protective of her, but if I had a daughter like konata, I would feel complete in my life. In the end, only fate can decide, but I will celebrate the growth of young girls no matter the outcome. >:3

Probably at least one boy to carry the family name. I remember seeing those dolls in Detective Conan, and that's how I remember it.

Doesn't matter whether have girl or boy, will still be my child. Just hope they don't follow me in getting into all sorts of expensive hobbies...

Doesn't matter to me whether my child's a boy or a girl either. I would love to have at least a boy and a girl though, but I'll stop at two children. ^^

I remember watching on of the videos in your BJD coverage. Burnt plastic can't be healthy for ones breath.
I also don't mind if my future kid is a boy or a girl (or if i don't have a kid at all as a matter in fact). As long as they develop the same interests as me, I'm sold. ^^

linked below are the Hina dolls sent by my in-laws for my Daughter. We put them up about 1 month ago, and then took them down on March 3rd. You have to take them down right away or your daughter will not get married until later in life or something like that.

"people believed the dolls possessed the power to contain bad spirits". I believe in the United States, they call these dolls: Chuckie. ^^

The 3rd of March was actually National Liberation Day here in Burugaria.

i think i saw this being celebrated in some anime, dont remember which one though.
If i get married, then i would prefer both a boy and girl each. But looking at the expenses for most things rising everyear and how the world seems to be degrading faster and people becoming more violent and greedy everywhere i wouldn't want to have any kids. I'd feel bad having them grow up in this mess of a place.

I would like to have both. i would prefer a boy but if I get a girl instead, I would not be complaining. I am not not like King Henry VIII of England who would do anything for a son!

Hoo, a cool tradition, I say. I'd like to have two girls, cause I somehow feel that I wouldn't have patience for a boy. But then again, as a father I'd be terribly overprotective since I'd have to give away 2 daughters instead one ^^'
FREETER
Man, if my partner and I ever get around to having kids, we totally
want girls.
My friend and her sister were raised by a father who was a mechanical
engineer/gearhead. so one of their innate life-skills is self auto
repair. like taking apart their engines, replacing their own shocks,
modding cars. Kind of badass.
My kids would totally have a geek upbringing with a wide cultural
exposure. Between my GF and I we speak a combined 4 languages.
