I've read about these festivals. Do the young girls get gifts from neighbors/teachers/etc, or is it just the family? (Something I've never had answered.)

Japanese culture is so fascinating. I just love it! I cant wait to go to Japan.

On another note thats sorta on topic... ^^, What time of the year would one otaku recommend another otaku to go? Also, Im setting aside 5000 USD for expenses, that enough?

    Shaji! (^^)/

I'm off to Japan in August for two weeks and I'm taking around £1000 with me which is roughly $1800. My hotels etc are already paid for so the money is purely for spending on having fun. Have known plenty of people who have been already and they say the amount I'm taking is plenty.

Sigh... I wish the Lucky Star's illustration of the chara as Hina Matsuuri dolls is realized as PVC.... I wonder how much Otaku will suddenly celebrate Hina Matsuuri by displaying them, lolol.

Btw, which one is more expensive... These Hina Matsuuri dolls, or Koinobori??

linked below are the Hina dolls sent by my in-laws for my Daughter. We put them up about 1 month ago, and then took them down on March 3rd. You have to take them down right away or your daughter will not get married until later in life or something like that.

i think i saw this being celebrated in some anime, dont remember which one though.
If i get married, then i would prefer both a boy and girl each. But looking at the expenses for most things rising everyear and how the world seems to be degrading faster and people becoming more violent and greedy everywhere i wouldn't want to have any kids. I'd feel bad having them grow up in this mess of a place.

Man, if my partner and I ever get around to having kids, we totally
    want girls.

My friend and her sister were raised by a father who was a mechanical
engineer/gearhead. so one of their innate life-skills is self auto
repair. like taking apart their engines, replacing their own shocks,
    modding cars. Kind of badass.

My kids would totally have a geek upbringing with a wide cultural
exposure. Between my GF and I we speak a combined 4 languages.
