Looks awesome ;p It's kinda weird to see the figure all grey and just the face painted ;p
And it's great to see we can get some exclusive looks ;p
(and yeay for first post ;p)

Yeah I agree it looks a little freaky with just the face painted.

Kind of makes it look like she is a bit sick.
デレデレ ハンター, Bullet Grazer
But I thought the face WASN'T painted. It's just that it hasn't been primed for the final paint job to go on yet. Correct me if I read incorrectly.
You're right. "The face is done last and is the most difficult part to paint. The face is currently the same color as the putty used for sculpting and will be primed too." So the putty is greenish yellow and has not been primed... ^___^
University Student
Looks cool, but without being painted it just seems kinda off, hope to see the finished work soon.

I'm looking forward in seeing the finishing paint work. Is she a 1/8 scale?
I really like the pose. Love dynamic poses. ^^
I will wait for the price before consider going ahead with the buy or not.

It looks great, and with the paint it would look even better. Can't wait to see the finished product.

Good seeing such a delicate and detailed figure in the making process. I haven't got any big figures but I'd sure like big eyes if I had any big ones.
http://blog.limkopi.org
looking good! hopefully is price is good as well.. hahahaa
eyes? I guess it does not matter to me.. you know when you like the figurine, you feel a special connection to it... the eyes doesn't really matter..
hey which eyes are we talking about here? lol
Student

Nice figure looks really nice ^_^ cant wait to see the colored version x3
Too me big "eyes" doesnt really matter much,as long as i like the figure it self eye's size doesnt matter much XD

Oh my. If Good Smile can replicate that lovely sakura pattern on her kimono, she's going to be a sure buy for me. I'm already pre-ordered Chua Chuaram of Chu x Chu Idol, so I'm looking forward to Unity Mei.
Plus meganekkos are HOT. :D

Great insight to the figure development process, thanks Danny:)
For me, it doesn't matter if the figure has big eyes or not. But what is important to me, is that the figure resembles the actual character.

Big eyes? I think here I would say 2D=3D (o_O) cause if you like the character and/or look it doesn't matter.

figures with big eyes are a bonus
i mainly like figures:
1) which anime or manga or game that i am a fan of
2) i have a complex for girls with big swords (but i don't really those with guns)
3) have special feature will often make me curious to obtain them (example soft chest =p)
4) finally i also like cute figures like nendoroids

Awesome coverage as usual. I envy you, Danny, getting these exclusives and such. D:
Another awesome UNiSONSHIFT related production, will it ever end? I don't know who's getting more of my money anymore, GSC, Alter, or UNiSONSHIFT. .-.
Food Monkey
Looks like she could lean. Nice figure though.
Admin
I wouldn't worry too much about that. As you can see from Danny's photo (http://www.dannychoo.com/slide/eng/toys/20715/photo/Unity+Mei/), there is clearly a metal rod sticking out of her foot, which will give strength to the figure.
That billowing cape/skirt might have to be made from ABS though, or its unsupported weight will cause it to lean downwards. If GSC had taken the proper precautions, I think it shouldn't lean.
I'll wait to see how the painted prototype looks like, though GSC paint jobs shouldn't disappoint. Hopefully.

LOL I like loli and I like big eyes... So size of eyes don't matter to me...
Student
http://animestuff.wordpress.com/
It doesn't matter if they have big "eyes", what matters to me is that if the figure is really good and cute, the "eyes" are just an extra. I wonder who prefer more big eyes, us westerns or the japanese, everything I see about anime and it's goodies always have two or more big eyes girls not to mention the series of Ikkitousen, Sekirei and others
student
The eye sizes (both pairs) of a figure should be approximate to the character it is based on, unless it's a Nendoroid.
Great coverage as usual. :)

nice figure - thanks for sharing!
As for the poll, I wouldn't buy any figure with supersized eyes. I rather the eyes be small and delicate, rather than big and 'sparkling' (which makes them look abit too cute for my liking)

Nice exclusive! Cool looking figure - i like ones in dynamic poses with lots of clothy stuff going on.
Call me odd, but i actually prefer figures unpainted! I just love seeing all the detail on them, and you can make it out a lot better when its uncoloured.
Nice to see the sculptor has the max factory kasumi on his/her desk! Its one of my all-time favourite figures.
Student and full-time otaku
And again, more sweet coverage Danny. Can't wait to see the finished version (purple is nice), although I probably won't get her due to 'finacial circumstances'...
As for the eyes, don't really care, but overly huge ones put me off. I prefer small-medium sized, but my figure choice isn't governed by it ^^

As for size of the eyes, I don't mind how big or small they are as long as they match the body shape of the character.

http://otakuposts.blogspot.com/
Wow. very nice sculpt. cant imagine this was done by looking at a sketch. that guy sure is gifted.
thanks Danny and GSC for showing us these exclusive pics. Regarding size of eyes, it doesn't matter as long as they are in proportion and look like the same size as in the original anime version or manga.
studying Japanese and Computer Science
i don't get it... are we talking about eyes or breasts (boobs, tits, whatever you like to call them ;))? if you really meant the eyes, then i don't care about their size - if we're talking about the figure's breast-size then i have to say that there has to be some kind of relation to the rest of the body. it's not always "the bigger the better" :>
Student
http://najica.wordpress.com/
"eyes" = boobs in this case ^^; i think lol
i also had problem with what people meant by "eyes" until i checked out (i think it was a candy doll vid) where danny had wrote "Check out how real the eyes are" or something like that XD made me go "Narohodo!" ^^;
University's Slave
Whoa. That thing is awesome! I'm normally more drawn to articulated figures like the Figmas, but she's so cool I just might cave in and get her. ^^;
If you mean "upper" eyes, I don't care so long as the character doesn't look vapid and dazed, but avoiding that gets progressively harder the larger the eyes are.
As for "lower" eyes, again, I'm not particular, but they can't go much past what's likely and physically possible. If it tips past the physically possible range, they then shoot past "sexy" into "freakin' creepy" for me, especially if they start suffering from weird physics like volleyball boobs or that wet sandbag look. And I second Asuki in that they should be logically proportionate to the rest of the figure's physique-- no waifs with randomly gigantic implant eyes, please.

I love the character designer...had to order every Chu x Chu figure and will PROBABLY order this one too. I say it that way because I have to be good with preorders from now on. From the look of it though, this one will be AWESOME :D I can't wait to see what else you have to show us, hehe ;)
I answered "Yes" to the Poll...although I am a girl, I will most likely buy figures with bigger 'eyes' because...I dunno xD;; I would only buy a flat one if I really liked that character I guess...or if it's from Moetan lol.
Secretary
http://figured.wordpress.com/
Also I guess I will order a figure if it would look silly with big eyes, or is just a great design anyways.
Lazyman Extraordinaire
I like big eyes but I like normal or even smaller eyes. I can appreciate the greatness of a figurine without it having to be ecchi but in my ecchi figures, the only thing I dont like are flat eyes... it feels too much like loli.

Wow Danny nice find, cant wait to see the finished product, the character's outfit is amazing, designs like those really lure me into the figure, shows how good the artwork the creator has to offer.Im sure she will be an eye catcher^^With GSC making it,it must be amazingly done.
Eyes don't really matter to me,sometimes they make them out of proportion for the character, like a young girl with F-cups.Eyes are merely an add on,to get a good stare, but what really matters is the pose, paintwork, and sculpt.
and Danny first time I seen how you look like haha:D

Hmm, now that you mention it, I too realized majority of my figures are of less endowed characters. Seems the most large-eyed figure I have so is Gothi-loli Haruhi by Griffon. Though my collection is still small and Gothic Punk Miyuki will soon shatter Haruhi's confidence I think. ^^

I think there more important details that makes a figure good that breasts. the face, the lips, the eyes(the ones for the face), the pose...

Wow, I like this insider stuff, like office tours.
As for eyes, I like big ones, but not only them (and some are even too big for me). Guess gaijin like them bigger because gaijin girls tend to have bigger ones then Japanese.

Thanks for taking these pics and the time to post them up, Danny. I'm not a great sculptor or builder, but I always find these sorts of tours inspirational. Just looking at the workspace (or the in-progress items) gives me a lot of inspiration for how I should proceed.
As for figures, I don't have a real preference for bust size- I think I look more for who the character is, and what I think of the sculpt. I really liked the look of the Max Factory Sakaki Mizuki, for example.
Where I currently am in North America, I see more preference for the more mature-looking characters at the local comic book and manga stores, which might be why bustier characters are purchased more (as the more mature looking charas tend to be a bit bustier).
If they made a Lina Inverse, however, I expect we'd see lots of North American purchases of a more flat-chested, er, well-proportioned character.

Moe Hunter

Actually, I know many people who do like big eyes, and I wouldn't say that the stereotype/generalisation is too far off the mark.
But personally, I prefer them smaller. Not flat, but shapely and pert.
http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/6618/bleachswimsuitsv8.png
Here as an example, rather than Orihime, I prefer the eyes on Soifon. Although, that's just preference I wouldn't say no to any of them, but I don't particularly collect 2D girl illustrations with big eyes.
Student
Voted yes, as looking around my collection I do feel my favourites include mostly large eyed girls. Though that's not to say that smaller can't be very nice too. Unity Mei looks to be shaping up very nicely, I love purple too, so with that color scheme she'd be very tempting.
Compounder
I don't mind either, large or small, as long as they fit the body-type.
Although, I dislike figures where the eyes are waaay too enormous. Like, "A living person could not support such weight" is too big.
E^D
???Confused???
Well most of my collection has girls with big eyes, but I don't really mind as long as it looks good though...first thing I thought when I saw that green face was that it was going to hurl...

So, we're talking about eyes again eh. On figures, they don't really matter to me. I prioritize on build quality and how nice the figure turned out :) Besides, it's not always beneficial to have top heavy figures, they might fall off shelves.

Honestly, it doesn't matter. I always look for a fantastically sculpted figure- bust size really isn't that important. Max Factory, from what I have seen has some good stuff. When I get the money, I may try importing one of their figures. I like what I see and I like this figure. I am hard to convince to buy an expensive figure.

I like big eyes figures if it's tasteful, but I dont feel that most of them are ^^;
I actually dont like the purple color scheme. I think this figure would look awesome in White / Black

Big eyes? doesn't really matter. I think the poll answers that. heheh! I just want a figure that's amazingly sculpted and detailed. Same with the cast off feature really, cast off doesn't really make or break my decision in figure buying. :D
That's a great figure but I feel it might lean on me. And it looks delicate.

That is a nice figure!!!
Hey Danny, just to add to your poll "Do you prefer figures with big eyes?" - to me in a figure, what i care the most is:
1. over all - how close the figure looks like the real character...i have seen bad figures out
there... >_<
2. the quality of the paint/color - no misplaced colors & good color combination
3. the small detail and how well done they are - no seams
4. "big eyes" don’t really matter - what it is important is the pose the figure is in!HUGE PLUS
5. if the figure doesn't come with a base... it has to be balanced(able to stand by it self)
what do you care the most in a figure that make you anxious to get it???

Anyway, this is figure is great! I'm looking forward to the release of this figure. It's always interesting to see the creation process and I find myself wanting to give it a try. Hopefully in the future when my wife and I return to Japan.
It doesn't matter if one cares for eroge or not. With the quality of craftsmanship and money that goes into figures like this it is obvious that eroge is where the industry is at this time.
