While a miko and maid are nice, Yukata's easily beat them out. I've always found women to be the most attractive in them. This was funny because I was thinking for the past month or two now why you hadn't had an article about something like this. Great selection of pictures too.

So is a yukata a less elaborate and casual version of a kimono? Before this article, if I saw these pics I would have said the girls were in kimonos and not yukata.

No traditional garments in Australia that I know of, which isn't exactly a good thing because during the Miss Universe pagents, the Miss Australia is usually in a bikini because apparently we are famous for our life savers and beach culture! But I wouldn't call that "traditional" at all.

I'd would choose maid because the uniform/costume involves panty hose/stockings while the other two options doesn't. Although both the miko and yukata have those cute little shoe socks...

Why have a got one wet dog as a weapon?? *imagines swinging the one wet dog over my head while my gf/wife wonders if I'm just crude to animals*

Yukata is the winner, by far. Miko's are very elegant, but not one bit sexy. And maids give me the creeps, I must confess.

    Regarding Yukata's, two things though:

    1. Regarding guys' Yukatas, I am quite envious of Japanese, actually: with a rather hairy chest, there is no way I would look cool on that garment.

    2. Women's Yukatas are for some reason just fit for for Japanese chicks: it can make the dullest Japanese girl a true princess, while even the hottest western girl just looks out of the place with them (well, I've seen some exceptions, but so they are).

One thing you do not mention is that Japanese girls wearing Yukata or Kimono also deck up with the strangest but rather cute-ish make-up and hair styles (one example, the 11th photo of the beauty licking the lolly-pop). I have seen several books about make-up and hair styling specific for Yukata and Kimono in the average Japanese book store several times.

Hard choice of greeters, but I think after a battle like what Danny's described I'd like it to be the Miko... So she could pray for me and make arrangements for my funeral. x___x

Yukata, but only winning just from maid. Heck, it's all great, given the right girl in it. Example:
Cutest in Yukata = Shinobu from Love Hina
Sexiest as maid = Mitsuki from He is My master
Cutest Miko = Machi-nee from Nagasarete Airantou

My random closed-eyes clicking turned out to be Miko. Ah, well. I was hoping for maid. Yukata gives a more... I'm not sure, moe-some feel?

But I always wondered how they could wear something long-sleeved during summer. It must be really great if you'd feel cool even if the weather was hot. I sure could use one now instead of wandering around the house in shorts :P

I'd have to say Yukata on this one. Miko second. I'm not very fond of maids...

That is one really cheap yukata... I always thought they were 10,000yen plus.
Well wearing a yukata in summer would be quite hot, but that can't compare to wearing a full traditional kimono.

I have a Philippine Barong Tagalog which I would sometimes wear during formal occasions.

Out of the three I would have to take the girl in the maid uniform. Why? Because it is the most form flattering out of the three. I don't have a preference for maids what so ever, but if the activity is going to lead to joint health care might as well get the engine started right. Though if I had a choice of what I would rather see them wearing every day then I would say the Yukata. I like it since it has that traditional/casual look opposed to the Miko which has a traditional/elegant look and I don't need a housekeeper.

    Traditional outfits eh..
For Malay males, we have what's called "Baju Melayu"(baju = shirt, melayu = malay). Usually people can be seen wearing this everywhere during Eid Mubarak, but also can be seen during our routine prayers at mosque and home, especially on Friday. "Baju Melayu" also become one of school uniform in majority of schools here;usually Malay male elementary to high schoolers here need to wear it every Friday
For Malay women, the most dominant traditional outfits is "Baju Kurung". This is the outfits most of Malay women wears everyday; during work, school etc

After all that exercise of playing with weird animals, i'd prefer being greeted by my gf in a yukata.
regarding the second question, there are lots of traditional dresses in india. It being culturally diverse with a lot of religions, each religion having their own traditional dress. Common traditional dresses that women wear daily to work or at home are sarees for women and dhoti or lungi (a type of long towel wrapped around the legs) accompanied with a vest or a hand towel for men. Muslim men wear a sort of kurta pyjama. Hindu men too wear a type of kurta pyjama with lot of embroidery during important ocassions like weddings and cultural festivals.
Some links with info but many of them lack images :(

As I know, Canada doesn't have much traditional clothes. I only see traditional clothing from other cultures. I would like to try a Samue. When I get to Japan, maybe someone can help pick one out. I would like to get one if it's that cheap.

I do like maids, but nothing makes me feel summer is here then seeing woman in yukata. My wife looks so beautiful when she is wearing one. I can't wait for us to return to Japan and see here wear one more often.

Well, this is the America so sometimes one can see lots of different type of ethnic dress. Me, I'm not strong in any of my ethnic background so I don't wear anything.

Yes, I do have a couple of Yukata, Samue and Jinbei and I do often wear since my wife life to see me do so. For those of you who don't know. Jinbei is like Samue, but it has knee length shorts rather than pants. Jinbei is something you would almost always wear at home only.

After fighting all the animals a nurse outfit with first aid bag might be handy as well.

    Answers for Danny's questions:

    - Never tried one....

    - Hmm... since Indonesia has a large culture variations, there are a huge amount of traditional clothes :D can't mention them. The most oommon for the citizens maybe the religious clothes that are worn on the respective religion's celebration day.

Since most of Indonesians are Islam / muslim, so the most common are muslim clothing but I don't know what it is called on English ^^; I do own them.

    - Hahaha, for me the clothing won't matter as long as the person who greets me is the one I loved :D but if I need to choose one, then I'll go for yukata ^^

I wonder what the weiner dog would look like dressed as a maid, or a miko.

I really like Maids but If i was to spend a day with a girl in the choice of the 3, I would have to choose the Yukata. It feels appropriate for Japan and is very moe. I will have to admit the Miko would be very nice if we were to visit temples as well as it reminds me of Rei Hino.

I've seen girls in yukatas at Bon Odori fest and usually it's a summer wear on hot days. One thing I find annoying is that some otakus here cosplay as maids or goths at the festival even when organizers remind that it's disrespectful for the dead as Bon Odori is something like a festival for the dead.

Yukata looks perfectly normal to be wearing out and about, whereas maid and miko doesn't fit a proper home ( assuming u dun live in a maid cafe, or a mansion filled with maids , or a shrine) so yukata would be normal , and them not wearing anything beneath is just another added bonus... should u have to energy to continue.

I know this will sound rather crazy, but would wearing one be considered homosexual for a straight guy? Because I think it'll be fun to wear one for fun. Like in a fun cosplay event.

Not necessarily. There are lots of men's yukatas that are less bright and colourful compared to the ladies ones. From what I remember, the most popular styles are usually dark blue/olive green/tan/brown with bamboo/dragonflies/symmetrical patterns. Its very vague, but googling "Mens Yukata" in images returns a few examples.

But I suppose if you want to wear a super colourful one, it should be fine too!

Although Yukatas are cute I would still prefer seeing a miko because I just find it way cuter in a more simple way. Never knew that Yukatas are that cheap. I should really get my gf one of these. ^^ She loves to wear these kimonos.

Wonderful. It still surprised me, that japanese people put down all the stress and fast life to dress yukatas and enjoy summer matsuri!

Sometime, someday, i will go to Japan and dress again a yukata (first time was in my country, Venezuela, for an manganime festival).

Hmm...I might have the urge to see a girl in a maid outfit from time to time, but yukatas are more....consistently attractive. As for traditional outfits where I live...well you see people at festivals around here dress up in the traditional clothing of their ancestry (which means there are alot of people dressed up east-asian outfits here). Well I don't think there is a "traditional" outfit for the area itself. Actually, I've worn a traditional German outfit mit Lederhosen...one kid at the school called me a nazi and I ended up having to leave the school.

After surviving my encounter with the creatures you spoke of. Stumbling in the doorway, crowned with the scars of battle. I would like to be greeted by a woman in yukata. Perhaps have some tea, a little bite to eat. And if I have the energy. Receive some vital "health care". lol.
There's not really any traditional dress here to speak of. Unless you count ball-cap, tee-shirt, blue jeans, and work boots(I know. Kind of dull, but what can you do. That's progress.).
