Actually Danny is short one. According to Konata's rule of three-which I have long subscribed to myself- Danny needs that third one just in case. He already has one to take with him and one to keep.

Not many people can really have the opportunity to experience that gratifying sense of fulfillment in their jobs. Sometimes you might be in a dream job but the company may suck or you have colleagues from hell. Or worse.

What I think works best is a fine balance between work, family and personal space. It differs from person to person but unless you strive for balance - too much of one thing will probably not be healthy.

Btw, why no Macross Frontier figurines, Danny?

I would say I am very happy with where I am in life, it was only the past couple of years that I realised roughly where I wanted to go, then each time I realised something new, it moved me further towards absolute realisation. I finally decided that I am heading into the gaming industry, its where my interests and passion lies; at first I had my mind set on being a character designer, then I realised, however my drawings skils are soemwhat varied, some days they are good, others they are bad. That is when I realised what I really wanted to do, was go into the computing side of the industry, be it as a programmer, modeller, etc. I don't really mind, but my computing skills are something I can rely on, and I know will get me far.

Its lucky I sorted out my mind now, because it enabled me to make the right choices for university, and hence I am now on the right track :D

    But figures is another thing.

Recently got into the Figma scene.
Missed both opportunities to get the scarf though.

Got the Chou Yuusha, then when on to Yuki, then Haruhi, Saber then coming Mikuru..then I thought should I get the whole SOS dan?

The poison starts spreading...fighting to control..

As for my life? Im kinda happy with what im doing at the mo. I quit my full-time job that was dragging me down, and im quite happy for now doing freelance working from home from time to time. I still really want to move out of the house or live in japan for at least a year though, but i have to think of my mom, since my dad died 6 months ago.

You and me think the same, Danny. You should live the moment, the future can`t be controled. You must think in future, but for my experience, thinks happens and can`t be controled. I never imagine that my live can change so much during the last five months... So my advise is the same; find your passion, make true friends and loves, enjoy it and LIVE, never regret of anything, and let the things happens. This is the true happiness, people!

I want Nida, and these Nendoroids, Danny, you are mean, doing this things...

Since the last week im not sure anymore if what im doing is what i want to do. The reason is rather silly... First i thought im studying to make a lot of money and finance my hobbies. Well i knew that i have to sacrifice lots of my free time to achieve my goals. But only recently realized what this really means... by working on a project for a friend of my father. I earned good money but i had no time doing something enjoyable, my days consisted of sleeping eating and working. And this was only a opportunity... im someone who cant do things half hearted so my future life would look exactly like the one month i spend working.

... Now im seriously thinking of taking a break next semester and try something i always wanted to do xD, to become a professional race driver ^^ i know its like a kids dream but i really want to try it out. Maybe itll work if i put much effort and passion into it :)

hey danny welcome back... hope you recover from jetlag soon...
also great figures... the nendroid series are simply adorable... love the way you can play with them...
i just got me my 1st nendroid mikuru last week and i'm loving ever minute of playing with her...
as for me, ever since i was a kid what i loved to do the most was eating...*no joke*
i just love food... i could never get enough of it and then when i started out working part time *arubaito* my 1st job was in a *tamiya* toy store...
had loads of fun working among toys but my 2nd job was the turning point in my life... that was when i started working in a japanese restaurant, in the kitchen as a kitchen helper...
not the most pleasurable position to be in the kitchen but its the place where one learns the most... since all the *senpai tachi* will *let* you do their part of the work load... from then onwards i'd decided to pursue a career in the f&b line...
graduated from high school and went into a culinary collage and from there i continued on to becoming a professional chef...
the road was long and hard but it was and still is very rewarding... sure i have had my fair share of good and bad times in the f&b line but still at the end of the day, i'm still happy and proud of what i do for a living...
currently i'm attached to a family based japanese restaurant in singapore called "ichiban sushi" and i'm now 2nd in charge of the kitchen, but my dream is to go to japan and learn from the very people who grew up eating the very food i'm so passionate about...
hope it doesn't take me too long to get there...

It's still too early for me to conclude that I'm passionate about science but apparently I seem to be gaining increasingly more passion now as I endeavor to like science. Well, the main reason why I don't like science was because it was not something I chose to do myself but pushed by my parents (because of something about the psychology test showed that I'm talented in it and all), so maybe now after that feeling of "not choosing it myself" diminished, I'm finally able to gradually get the passion. Maybe. I hope it is like that.

Always good to get free goodies, and goodies pertaining to hobbies to boot!

I am happy with what I am doing in life- in particular I found what I liked to do and I made it a religion to develop and progress that interest. I pushed myself to do better and I had an explosion of information and abilities in late high school. When I hit the university, BOOM another realm is open to me of possibilities.

Everyone has a talent in something- if you can't decide what to do don't sweat it. Sit back, relax, and think about it casually for a few weeks to a few months. It took me years to decide on engineering.

Like kites? go for it and become a professional kite flyer (example, I don't think they exist!). I chose engineering because I love putting the guts into machines and making them come to life. I get a total KICK out of bending the force of nature to my will. The downside? engineering is HARD, but I enjoy a challenge.

Many college counselors have tests that can help you out if you are pulling your hair out on a choice of major. If you are in high school I would say hold on there jethro and explore your interests first. I have been in the engineering major for a year and I love it. It is fascinating, interesting, and I learn new skills that allow me to not only build new stuff, education gives you the ability to think differently and at different perspectives.

I read some of your older posts a while ago and i must say they were realy and insperation to me, as i also share a passion for everything Japan as im sure many do here.

But im sure of one thing it has realy pushed me to start trying to get somewere in life instead of just hanging around waiting to see what happens i.e. i went out and got a new job after being stuck in the same job for 4 years and im much happier and doing more of what i want to do and less of just working for the sake of it.

Although it did land me with more money and much more room to grow and aquire more knowledge to someday reach my dream of living in Japan, which i 'will' do.

I'll also encourage people to not hang around and go do what they need/want to do as time does'nt hang around for any of us.

Nice collection of new figures Danny. I really like this Dark Elf, Lineage character design is very nice.
And if it goes about if I'm happy with what I'm doing right now, the answer is no.I'm still not sure of what to do with my life because of that I'm sometimes really irritated since time run so fast and I don't want to waste my life on doing thinks that I don't like. About 3 years ago I wanted to study Japan culture but because of my family financial problems I have to cancel my plans and so I end up with no ideas where to study after I end secondary school, after all this I decided to learn something that I would never choose before and in last year I decided to quit my studies and stated working ( the money from this work isn't big). And so now I'm 21 years old and still don't have plans for my future... this sucks . But reading your article make me fell that I should continue my search for things that I would like to do in life. The only thing that I'm sure in 100% is that I would like to visit Japan, it is my biggest dream and if all goes well maybe in next year I will have enough money to realize this dream.

Hey Danny, you've come a long way my friend. Life can have it's ups and downs, but it's inspirational to hear you're achieving what you want out of life. Keep at it buddy as you're only in your 30's, so there's still alot of life left to live...

Am I happy with my current status? Can't say that I am, which is why i'm working to change that.

But I always feel a tinge of jealousy when Danny mentions that he gets free stuff from companies to review on his site. Even if my blog was as popular as Gizmodo or Engadget, I don't think I'd ever get that sort of treatment from the creators of my figures, since they're not big(ish) companies but independent creators.
But how cool would it be to get a free copy of the latest works from Vispo, bubba, RyunRyunTei or cerberus project for you to build, paint and publicise just prior to a major event like wonfest?

I know I would be happy coming home and have all those figures to open. The people at Good Smile and Max Factor really like you Danny. ^^ I sure it must be nice to know these people respect you and appreciate the business you bring to them. I'm really glad to see a good person like you make your dreams come true. Not to embarrass you Danny, but you have been a big inspiration for me to push even harder on my goals.

Long after many of my peers and friends moved away from anime and Japanese pop culture I'm still around. I have never stopped enjoying Gundam, figures and watching good anime. I too find these things very relaxing and help me to think. Probably because I didn't get much of this when I was a young boy. I'm living my childhood now. ^o^ Of course it's great to have hang out here at DC.com with so many great people!

It is hard to say if I am happy right now. There are so many things I want to do and I regret not getting time for all the things I feel are important to me. I know most of us feel that way, so I hope it doesn't sound like I'm whining. ^^ I need just need to let a few things go and refocus. It's something we all do in life constantly. I just hate to give up on things. I was always taught to stick with it and work hard all the time.

I do know computers have always been a passion for me. Since the time of my youth building and learning assembly, I knew that I wanted to do something involving computers. I find it exciting to learn more about internet development. I can't wait to learn more and prove myself.

    Language study does not come easy to me. However, I have for years found linguistics and languages intriguing. Having studied Russian, Spanish, German, some Chinese and now Japanese it definitely has been desire that has kept me going. Just for the record photography is what first pushed me to learn Japanese... Just wish I could use these languages as well as I once could... ^^;

The point is desire is what makes me get up and jump in every morning. It would be easy for me to take the easy road and not keep that long promise to return to college and study internet dev. and Japanese. Hey, I'm a crazy! I can never say die!

Having put everyone to sleep now... ^^

I will be one unhappy guy if I don't get to go to Osaka Gundam's while on my honeymoon! ^o^ I want to get some figma! Good thing my future wife is a good sport about my passions.

I wouldn't say I'm not happy in what I'm doing now because one of my goals was to get a first step into the IT industry and I know I have achieved that. Now I determining where I want to go in this computering world but I remain optimistic in my options. I'm leaning towards the Networking side but on the other hand, learning about different systems sounds interesting as well. Considering I'm learning both at the same time, I might just get into both.

Ah, Lineage 2 Dark Elf. You are a lucky, lucky man, Danny. The GSC online preorder opened on a weekend evening (if I remember correctly), making it impossible to order one from a proxy service. I'm fishing in Yahoo Auction Japan for my very own.

I'm have no complaints doing what I'm currently doing. Sure it's not ideal or even interesting, but I have little stress at work. My boss doesn't breathe on my neck. I have enough pay to not fall into debt and have a nice figurine collection hobby on the side. I think there're people out there who will kill for my job. Hah.

Can't say that I'm satisfied right now, but if life goes on as it is, I'll just have to be content with my life. There are more who are suffering and living a far worse life than I, or most of us, for that matter.

Ahem, I don't mind having Pastel Ink added to my collection though(*hint*), it's pretty darn expensive but so prettyyy... XD

Great hoard of SAFS, Danny! I certainly wish that was part of the benefits of my current job but alas no.

One of the key articles that made me really like coming back here at dannychoo.com was your destination post. I really enjoyed some of your personal philosophy on living life to the fullest and really admire your determination and certainly envious in your achievements already. It's encouraging to read when someone's dreams can come true by a bit of hard work.

I am quite happy with what I'm doing right now in my life actually. I've had a number of career divergence myself. I grew up wanting to be an architect but towards the end of my high school days, I got more more interested in becoming a comic artist or a mangaka. When I got to actually studying architecture, I hated it. It was nothing like I had imagined or the job wasn't going to be as I thought it would be, so I switched to a more managerial / accounting aspect of construction and became a Quantity Surveyor since I enjoyed maths and solving problems.

I worked as a professional QS for almost 7 years. Really enjoyed it at the start but got too stressful and not creative enough in the end. I never gave up on my dream to draw comics in the meantime and I went to San Diego comicon twice and was inspired by some of the self-publishing articles Dave Sim wrote about.

Australia doesn't have any comic book publishers and so I decided to try self-publishing and went ahead with my own little creation called Knight-Edge.

Then I had some sort of epiphany and decided to go back to uni and do a Masters in Multimedia. I had the best time of my life so far in those 2 years. Met some more really great friends and just created stuff I'd never be able to do by myself at home just because I couldn't ever motivate myself alone or force myself to learn Flash, actionscripting and motion design stuff.

After I graduated, I kind of fell into freelance illustration and design work. I got jobs drawing storyboards for TVCs, short films and also illustrating children's education books. I wanted to get into motion design jobs but there are only a handful here in Australia and I just didn't have the contacts.

I also found illustration for other people took a lot of my creative juices out and I no longer had that enthusiasm to draw my own stuff. Together with the insecurity of not knowing when the next job might come and my dislike of chasing clients for payment, I decided to find a full time job in multimedia graphic design.

Now I work as a Graphics Designer for a fairly large IT distribution company, the work is nice and I do get some small freebies now and then because the companies have Intel, Microsoft, etc as clients. Plus now I'm able to work on my own illustrations or just take illustration and commission jobs that I feel like doing after hours.

I still have some destinations like getting my work published by one of the majors in the US or Japan one day and also making a short animated film like Makoto Shinkai does.

Anyway, my point is that you're an inspiration, Danny, so keep doing what you do!

Miku Nendroid~~~<3! Oh how I wish I had the money to buy that and the other figure coming out in the Fall.

I'd have to say I'm not happy with where I am at the moment. I'm too busy downing myself to try at what I really want to do. I've always wanted to draw, animate my own series, illustrate my own stories... but I get intimidated by all these other great artists out there. I have a bunch of art site links, given to me by my boyfriend's friend who's in the Gaming area, to post my stuff on in hopes of it being found. But I see all these other, much greater in talent, artists on there who still have yet to find a career or be noticed and it in turn gets me down.

That and most areas in the art field now require experience in Photoshop, Illustrator, etc, which I don't have other than some fiddling with PS I've done on my own. I took a correspondance art course for my.. I guess it's a degree of sorts. ._.

Relatively happy, as a designer and CD you have to balance the fact that you are producing for others. So it's important to "divorce yourself from your work". My pay is OK, but could/should be better. Also at this stage I really only design and direct, so in the past year or so (with my current job) I have lost some skills on the programming side (PHP/Flash) which I also like to do... and thought they would be using me for.

Also, family matters can be taxing on ones life. I find I have little time for things that I want to do and spending more time taking care of aging parents.

Only things I would change is MORE money... and to get out of the U.S.

I'll only be happy when I get all those nendoroid figures. [:P]

    But seriously, good advice Danny.

I'm walking the same path it seems.

Didn't know what to do 10 years ago, so after trying to enter several universities (in Brazil we have to take a really hard test to enter universities), I ended up following my father's career: Computers.

Graduated in 7 years (3 more than normal time, because I had a major problem with my final project), spent 2 years wondering what to do, entered a specialization course on Game Development... but now I think I know what I want to do with my life.

And this time I'm not like wondering or in doubt anymore... I'm trying journalism.

My first step is trying to maintain an updated blog. Japanese culture is also my main interest, but I don't mind if the subject is something else.

Yeah, I wasted lots of time, but it's also truth that I only got in contact with and started taking interest in journalism because of Computers... mainly because I can't imagine a future where I'm programming computer softwares and being happy together... while I do picture a future where I can either be writing articles, doing research, editing or doing something else in journalism and being happy at the same time.

But it's a hard thing to find out what you really want. Even more in Brazil.. we have a very weak educational system, unfortunately.

But anyways, we have to keep fighting for our futures. Fortunately, I have a very supporting mother (my father died when I was 19), and even though I know I'm a burden, she won't say anything and support my every decision.

My perfect future would be graduating in journalism, successfully establishing a blog or some sort of media, and moving to japan... after I get the girl of my dreams. XD

Dang why the refrigerator box for moetan? Shes so tiny, even with the base, a box that big is not needed.

Btw, i like what you wrote about the line of work or something. Good for you~ :D I hope that someday, I would have the same fate. Currently, I am just staying in my course in school because of my friends.. A year to go just before graduation. Yay!

Oh yeah, before I forget, because of your figure reviews, you inspired me to make my figure collection grow~ ^__^ Little yet growing~ :) Thank you for that!

I do a job that makes money so I can fuel my passion :) Guess I'm a bit opposite. My goal was just to have a nice decent job (that I didn't hate) that would allow me to buy stuff related to my hobbies. I have a passion for anime/figures/manga/video games but I felt pursuing a career in my hobbies might somehow ruin them for me. By making them into work, I was worried they'd stop being fun and start being just work.

I have that Needa/Nida :squeal: I love figures with big guns. But Needa/Nida was hard to put together! It was real tough to get her to hold her gun and keep her clothes from popping off.

Yeah, I'm hoping to be a manga artist or a seiyuu (Voice Actor) someday, and I'm passionate about anime, manga, TV games, light novels, figures, cosplay, and many other otaku related things......

I'm even considering making otaku films, and put them on the internet sites like VEOH (somewhat like how GAINAX started out) any maybe distribute them at cons.

Anyway keep dreaming, you never know what'll happen

*sigh* Being a high school student in the USA is troublesome...the only times I can acquire figurines are at conventions and online...but since I can't get a job until a few months where I can actually get a job at the places near me, I've just been scraping by....One of my favorite passions stopped by my youth. Fail :(
