    Wow, sola, huh? Enjoyed that show but very surprised that it doubled the next -closest anime.

    Do we know of the criteria for a show to qualify to be eligible for this award? It sounds like they had to end this year, at least, but that doesn't explain the lack of what I thought were powerhouses like Kanon or Gurren Lagann.

    Wow, what a horrible list....

    Does anybody here on this blog not think that 80's & 90's anime & manga were just WAY better?

    I cant believe this is the TOP TEN ! :
    * 1 - sola
    * 2 - Lucky Star
    * 3 - Katei Kyoshi Hitman Reborn
    * 4 - Ookiku Furi Kabutte
    * 5 - Higurashi
    * 6 - Gintama
    * 7 - Nanoha StrikerS
    * 8 - Nanatsuiro Drops
    * 9 - Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei
    * 10 - Hidamari Sketch

    What?

    "Tekkon Kinkreet" isnt even mentioned !

    That has to one of the most visually impressive animes in years...

    Check the trailer:
    http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=IWOCf1wNlk0

    Please tell me there are other out there that would shudder at the thought of watching even 10 minutes of bloody "Sola"....

    I have to agree with Sola, if you watched it to the end, you know why. But I'm actually surprised that made it to the first, AFAIK it's not so popular. Lucky Star was meh for me, because half of the time you were bored watching them talking about nonsense, and then you laughed for 1 minute then another half bored. I didn't saw any other of the series, but I'm planning to watch Zestsubou Sensei some time in the future.

    err... not even close

    sola was less than mediocre (no offense) - I watched ten minutes of it before I said to myself "I've had enough"

    H-Sketch was too ugly to be put into the top ten list - the characters were disturbingly - err - yeah...

    This season was actually one of the worst - I did like Denno Coil, though.

    Oh, have you watched the first episode of Macross Frontier? It's quite entertaining...

    Polls results are not thing to get worked up about. I say that because polls are very inaccurate.

    Remember it's a top 10 out of 100 titles. That's not much choice. Maybe the list of 100 was not very good.

    Lucky Star is the only one I would take from that list. I'm not sure I would make it number 2 as well. I would be more likely to go with your selections Danny.

    Thta shows how the anime taste change in the different regions of the world.
    To me, Lucky Star is a pretty nice anime, a comedy anime, but it doesn't change my life about anime and manga. But i respect the opinion of all the poeple that likes it too much for say that is too good.

    To me, 2 of the better anime of this year are Claymore and Nodame Cantabile.

    Sadly, they aren't in the list.

    2007 was a manga year for me.
    I almost didn't watch new animes... as for the mangas, they weren't new too.

    But I read more than watched.

    The only two I watched some episodes on the list was Lucky Star and Higurashi.

    Lucky Star is on my top list... Higurashi... well, not that much.

    Minami-ke and some others are on my watchlist... but if it is anywhere close to the manga, I'd probably add on the top list also.

    At least Lucky Star is second ;p

    Hmm, sola, maybe I should watch it, I think I have it lying around somewhere. Still got so much to see...
    And except for Hidamari Sketch, I haven't even seen the rest...

    My personal favorites from this year: Lucky Star, Claymore, Death Note, Clannad, Minami-ke, Sky Girls.

    I'm sorry I guess its just me but I don't get Lucky Star. Is it suppose to be funny? Cute? Overall anime is going downhill IMO. Claymore had potential but they shortened it too much. I enjoyed death note but it didn't make the list. Then again I haven't seen any of these titles except lucky star. I'm just gonna say they don't make them like these used to although I do enjoy Bleach.

    It'd be better to know what attendees at a major J fest liked best (Kujibiki Unbalance?).
    I was especially impressed by Darker Than Black and Baccano.
    Lucky Star cracks me up every time I rewatch.
    I guess Minami-ke, Shana II and Genshiken II are out of contention by dint of calendar.

    Haha. What an entertaining poll. Thanks for sharing it.

    I don't completely agree with how it was ranked, but some of the series that was mentioned are quite noteworthy for being in the top 10 -- some of those being Ookiku Furikabutte and Gintama.

    Below contains my list of the top picks for 2007 (based on the series overall against others in the same genre):

    For what was completed in 2007:
    Nodame Cantabile
    Seirei no Moribito
    Romeo x Juliet
    Toward the Terra
    Baccano!
    Genshiken2
    *Gurren Lagann

    For what is continuining:
    Kekkaishi
    Ookiku Furikabutte

    *It was very rare to see Gainax to deliver an unimaginable tale that was so well conceived that they could claim it was one of their originals. It reminded me of their true classics such as Nadia, FLCL, and I guess... Evangelion.

    To Sean in San Francisco:

    I'm a great fan of Studio 4°C's works. The animation is pure bliss to watch if you've ever had the opportunity to watch some of their animated shorts.

    Tekkon Kinkurīto was released in Japan in 2006, and not 2007 if you're going by their poll.

    From Sean,

    "Does anybody here on this blog not think that 80's & 90's anime & manga were just WAY better?"

    Post 21st Century works were fabulous. Now anime production (i.e. financially) has been reduced and the quality shows. Unfortunately what happens is that every season there is maybe one decent series out of the entire crop. And out of the entire year there is usually one series to rule them all.

    In regards to manga, I don't know if you're investing the time to researching what to read, but there are plenty of artists that reap with potential. Some of the artists from the 80's and 90's still contain a body of work that continues to publish.

    I acept than japanese are diferent to us (americans, Mexico is part of America) but gurren lagann and Dennou Coil had such perfect animation, i think they deserved more rank in place Nanoha o Nanatsuiro Drops for examples

    I use to belive than hayate would enter in a top like that in japan, my mistake then

    I'm too busy for the year to have watched enough anime to make my own top ten list, but WHY ISN"T CODE GEASS in it?!?!? In my opinion it had the best depiction of real robot mecha combat for the year (finished its run in 2007)... maybe it's because of its storyline; it's so tangled now that my friend told me he'd given up guessing who would win.

    I'm personally a big fan of Minami-ke, Lucky Star, and Zetsubou-sensei.

    I can't believe this list, especially looking at the top 100 from the link. Claymore ranking 74th, even though the last quarter of the anime was mediocre it deserves a much higher ranking imo. Worst part is One Piece, Code Geass, and Death Note are all not on the top 100 list despite their popularity. In conclusion this list is odd.

    sola = #1... what?
    and why is Zetsubou on there...

    Honestly, if it did not have a second season (thank god it is) it would have gotten the worst ending ever in Anime history... Introducing new characters in the LAST episode... wtf....

    I do not know the others though, which makes me some what releived but some what sad....

    Relieved b/c it means I am not a hardcore aniota

    Sad b/c I feel that I shold watch it, but do not for reasons such as genre and topic

    Some of the anime that people are listing (for instance, I saw someone list Death Note) started airing in 2006 and finished up in 2007. These are only 2007 vintage anime. At any rate I still can't believe Gurren Lagann isn't up there, it was one of the most epic anime I've ever seen.

    Even though the Japanese may have slightly different taste to, say, Americans or other people, the difference is not supposed to be that great. I do want to know what were available and what weren't available to vote. For example maybe Code Geass is considered as a 2006 one? Does Clannad count? Or is it not because it's not completed yet?

    And I do not know the majority of the anime listed in that top 10. The ones I have heard of frequently (Gurren Lagann, Seto no Hanayome, Claymore, or even Kaze no Stigma) are not on it (but I've yet to watch any of them...). Now with Sola apparently being the top anime, is it any good? So far from what I can see there are mixed opinions of it.

    am not pretty sure why sola is number one. heck, i didn't even buy a copy of it because it was like so short. hmmmm... i'm starting to reconsider buying one.

    i don't know the other titles but am interested in buying them all, just because. harharhar.

    am not really that excited about darker than black, i have a copy but was not able to finish it. the transition is too slow for me, it almost made me fall asleep.

    tengen toppa gurren lagann is ok too, am watching the first few episodes, it seems fun enough.

    i'm betting on claymore or deathnote or codegeass to make it on the list because the plot is really wicked! so am disappointed that it was set aside.

    Its probably irrelevant if i post my opinion on 2007s anime in late 2008 but i just registered and feel the need to voice my opinion:

    Namely, that im glad higurashi was ranked #5, it is my favorite anime. I found it to be very deep, thought provoking and tragic, if you didnt like it, you might have misinterpreted it, it was very multifaceted (something thing to note: I watched it all in the course of about 4 days {both seasons}). I have not seen the other any of the other anime on this list, so i cannot form a knowledgeable opinion about whether or not they deserve their spot on this list. Im surprised (or maybe upset) that so many of you disagree with this list but have not watched through the all of the anime on it (im not saying you should, im just saying that you shouldnt judge something you havent seen for yourself or are able to appreciate)

    I watched Sola after I saw this the result of this poll. It can count as a good anime only if you see it till the end - I've seen it and now it's in my top10 best anime I ever saw.

    I tried watching Lucky Star but it was to hard. I love nonsense talk but that was to much. And I actually watched 5 or 7 episodes so that I wouldn't make an unfair opinion towards this anime.

    There are some anime in this top that I haven't even heard of before and unfortunately other great anime aren't mentioned.
