Well, the site is rather cluttered with a large bunch of ads on the right sides and bottom. And the yes, the header is a bit too large. Also, you probally heard from me before, but i would like to see figure.fm fixed so other ppl (like me!) can join. I dont think the loading times were a problem, since i think many ppl surf with several windows opened anyways.
Other than the problems i mentioned, I think this is a very organized and eye pleasing site!

What sometimes annoy me a great deal is when I write a message and wish to send it. Sometimes it gets bounced back at me, as if I entered a wrong key combination and the system asks for another one (Is it a timed process?). So I have to copy/paste not to reedit it (as when / automatically appear near dashes, etc.)... Maybe more allowed time to write and send comments would be appreciated.

A suggestion (On another point) would be the integration of a preview for messages, so they can be edited before being sent.

Just, it would be better if there was an easier way to interact with fellow dannychoo.com members. I do remember mentions of a forum some time ago...

21st Century Digital Boy, I got a simple solution just for you on your issue:

When you enter the post and read what you wanted, click back, then on the previous page go click on "participate in poll" "view comments" or "post comment/add question" and you will have skipped unrelated things! Cool, is it not?

Myself I just scroll down manually, but hey...

Just a small thing, it'd be nice if the site better supported a widescreen resolution. Easier said than done, I know.

Also, consider making your comment/question button slightly larger or more visible. I sometimes find myself having to search a little for it.

    About the loading time...
I was looking through your html source, and I suggest that you combine a lot of your tags, remove the commented stuff like . Also, choose a doctype as it will let the browser know more about how to render the page better.

One big thing that will greatly reduce the load time is adding gzip page compression.

If you have any questions about html or php, feel free to ask me.

i don't mind seeing the header when I first enter the page since it's quite useful and I can navigate around the 6 sections with ease. however, I like to mass open tabs of the new updates (since danny, I noticed you update a few in one go) and it loads very slowly, possibly because of the header.

perhaps the header should only appear on the front page?

    just my two cents

The sheer number of pictures means it has to request lots of files, and transfer a lot.

You could load pictures in order, the ones you actually see first. This means that you might not notice the other pictures loading. It might be hard to do, because a good implementation would know what is currently in the viwewable area.

Also, due to the large variety of information, the site might be confusing. I have only been following the blog a few days.

I was confused between Articles and News Items because the RSS links didn't look the same (same text) as each other, and I would expect the Articles RSS to be near the title or end of the article.

I clicked on the pictures in the header only to find that it changed and it was an accidental click on a link. Maybe a 0.5 second sliding effect or something so that clicking is impossible until the effect is over.

I would like the content a bit higher up, so I don't have to scroll so much, i.e reduce the header vertical size; essentially the space between the article title and the top. This might not be an issue in the future when my resolution increases from 768 pixels.

I did a search but I only wanted to search your articles and news items, but the restuls return everything in the site. The search should have categories.

What kept me coming back were the grid of news items with picture and title ("thumb mode").

I didn't use the header at all. Actually I did use the header for "Galleries" to find cute pics, but I ended up wanting to read comments for the photos and from there it has the "thumb mode" of "Related posts".

"Thumb mode" is a winner for me.

Also other little things like "まっすぐGO!" displays as non unicode characters at the top: "Hello まっすぐGO!! You may edit your profile or logout."

I don't know where the post officially ends, which is where I expect the "post comment" link to be.
    - The poll should be before "filed under" because it is part of the post.
    - The "post comment" link should go after the poll and before "filed under".
    - The "Post comment" links should be associated with either the article or the comments section rather than looking like posting comments for "filed under" or "previous/next post"

    - Comments should be limited to about 20 and have comment navigation so the page isn't extremely long.

    - The 3 related articles should have the title of the article before each excerpt.

the only thing bugging me is when one click on "post comment", the current page goes into the comment form page.

it's kinda annoying cos the comment form page doesn't show the article or comments of the other members. so if let say i want to check something on the article or look at other members' comments, i'll have to click "back".

clicking back is fine but if i click "forward" to bring me back to the comment form page again, whatever i have written will be gone. >_<

so what i can suggest is that either when one click "back" and "forward" back to the comment form page, whatever one written previously will remain there or make a "post comment textbox" under the end of the article/poll. something like the Puchi Blurbs.

that way i can look at the article and other members' comments as i type my own comment.

I have two main nits with the site. First, the site has become heavy with features, but navigating among them and figuring out what they are is becoming difficult. You might know what you want to do, but the links/tools to do it are not readily visible.

For example, go into the Links/Otakurl section. You want to add a link; how do you do that? Well, you scroll down and look on the right. Once you get passed the DC Network block, a block for your profile, the puchi blurb form, and an advertising block, you finally see a block that contains "Add link". I'm in this section specifically because I'm interested in reading and sharing links with the community; why isn't the ability to share a link at the top, immediately visible?

Another example is the homepage; there is a "News" box with a "News" and "Videos" tab. The news tab features items only posted by Danny, latest news about figures, etc. he finds interesting. That makes perfect sense. However, the videos tab lists the user submitted videos; they're not news, and they aren't really related to Danny's news items.

I'd rather see this block rebranded as "Community" or something more appropriate. Then, add a few more tabs so it would read News, Videos, Links/Otakurls, Puchi Blurbs. Now, the front page loads a bit quicker with the images, etc. of puchi moved to an AJAX call; you also have a logical set of items grouped together.

I'd also like to see the text in the top nav (Japan & Subculture, etc.) activate the actual menus and somehow indicate that is what they are there. Currently, you have to hover on the image above the text to get the menu. I see the text there and decide it is just a general statement about the site content. It is only if I should happen to swipe my mouse over them that I see a menu effect.

My second nit is the lack of RSS feeds for all the features. Why are there no feeds for links, videos, or puchi blurbs? I have to resort to services like feed43.com to scrape the main pages and build one for me. I don't mind coming to the site to participate in a poll, comment on an item, etc., but I'd like to be able to keep track of all the activity, not just the articles, via RSS.

    Sprak,
    Thanks for the feedback. Most of the issues you bring up are on my list of to do but is low priority compared to what I need to do as CEO ^^;
    They will get done though.

    SamichX,
I do have plans to make my products mobile friendly.

    Gordon,
What I do is just open another window.
The reason that the form is on another page is for security and server side caching reasons. When you visit many blogger or wordpress pages, you will notice that pages load much slower even though they have less content than my pages.
The new form will still be on a new window unfortunately until I find a better way to handle the caching and security.

    まっすぐGo,
    Great feedback ^^

    fatB,
That feature is coming very soon ^^

i think what would be great is adding edit and delete button for our posts. It would be a great addition in case we find errors or want to change our posting. This would prevent double posting and just make things far more user friendly with ability to change our posts. Editing may be not the best since someone may say something offensive and then change it, but at lest delete button would be good. I really like the header, its not very big. I also find the rollover on the header's images a great idea and have created similar thing for my own portfolio site that was inspired by your site. :-) Overall a great web site with a lot of nice features and makes it one pleasing place to visit.
