london, bah! We have night buses which are incredibly unreliable. Taxis are rather suspect late at night and not recommended unless you are going in a group, so yeah, stay out too late and you're pretty much screwed.

Still better than the trains. At any time! particularly the ones running from london to south wales.

We got night rider buses that operate for the late night party people. But these buses only stop at certain places so sometimes people end up having to walk rather far back to their homes. But since its pretty safe in Singapore, its okay to just walk back home.

Otherwise, we just have to pay double fare to take a cab home,

Metro lines stop at around 1am and some bus lines are nocturnal. Otherwise you go for taxi. Quite a classical idea.

Public Transportation sucks in my city, It's always late or doesn't even show up, I used to ride my bike everywhere, but in the summer here it gets to the 110 F range, not fun on a bike... Sadly I must drive.

Here in Brazil you just don't stay out late unless you have your own car.
Buses and trains (on the few cities they exists) run up to midnight... though some lines will go 'till 1am.
Riding buses at night is dangerous. Even trains... like when it's too empty.

Taxis will cost a lot... but I think it's like 2 times more expensive than normal at night. Though taxis here are already too expensive at normal fare.

Oh, walking is not an option.

Public Transportation?! HA! This is Arizona, we dont have that here. EVERYONE drives their cars. They are installing a "light rail" downtown, which is basically a 3 mile long rail car ABOVE GROUND that put a lot of little shops out of business because of construction, oh.. and it only goes to one place other thank Phoenix. Public transportation around here is a joke. We cant even built a subway because 2 feet into the ground its solid caliche. Not too condusive to digging (and I build custom pools).

CyruzDraxs (This time I got the nick right!), talk about early job finishers.
You basically mean owls (people working at night, nocturne people, etc.) don't have trains as travel accommodation? That's really sad and it is not really community inclusive politics from the transportation company if you ask me, but hey.

    日本じゃ漫画喫茶で泊り込みーのコストが低いんであまり需要が無いのかもねぇ。ただまぁ、電車で確実に帰れる方がありがたいけど。

At workdays, the public transport here in Zurich runs until around midnight. But on friday and saturday evening, there are night busses/trains (one every hour on most lines after 1am).

Comes in quite handy when you want to have some drinks :)

My small town doesn't require many public transports, only the bus to go the surrounding cities and taxis of course. The city that you're really dependent on public transport is the capital Lisbon where you really need the subway, bus and taxis. The subway closes after midnight if I remember but taxis are always running at the same price I think.

lol, here in São Paulo you got underground trains that run from 4:40AM to about 0:10 (1:00AM on saturdays) but I don't see them as dangerous as XSportSeeker does... late night busses and surface trains are more on the dangerous side though, and most of them stop running at midnight (maybe they turn into pumpkins or something :P). Some of the main bus lines keep running 24/7, despite the long intervals between each arrival during the small hours ^^"...
When I'm out at night (wich happens fairly often...) I usually wait till 5, 5:30AM when most bus lines start running again.

We have night trains which travel between the big cities, but because those trains are intercity trains they only stop on big stations. Besides that we have night busses in the big cities as well, but the interval between each bus is very long.

I live in a backwards retirement community. Everyone is too rich to not have at least one car or too old fashioned to have their business open outside of 9AM-5PM. >.>

Half of the businesses in the city aren't even OPEN on weekends. *_*

You'd think that a city in the top 5 most expensive places in Canada to rent, the businesses would be more eager to take any money-making opportunity that presents itself to them. But no, instead they only keep their business open during the least busy hours of the day and then wonder what went wrong when their business goes bankrupt a year later. >.>

In Jakarta, some of city bus provide service until about 23:30 and after 21:00, smaller micro bus will get you around, it's quite cheap, the farthest will only cost you about Rp 4,000 (about 44 US cent). And also there is also chartered motorcycle service (called ojek here), you usually you bargain first for the fee to take you to the destination. For taxi, some using meter and some using bargain

And for long range bus, there is always a bus which will take you to any city from large bus terminal.
