As for the poll, my fave is the original "Super Dimension Fortress" (the movie in particular). I remember reading in the Japanese wikipedia (cant find the link now) that Lynn Min May was apparently the first "Moe" anime character.
Macross Zero started off great but left me repeating to myself "WTF. WTF. WTF" towards the end as the ending took a head dive into crapdom.
