You can probably guess how excited I am about the new series of Sky Girls from the amount of screenshots I took ^^;

UPDATE: Just added the OP for the new series to the Otavids section here and you can see the original OVA OP here.

After being attacked by creatures called Worms, Earth lost a third of its population. To rid the Earth of Worms, a decision was made to use weapons of mass destruction. The Worms were all destroyed but the Earth was left in ruins.

The story is set 10 years after the battle where 3 girls are brought together to pilot mecha suits called Sonic Divers (love the name) which transform into a plane looking object.
Otoha Sakurano (the girl with the shoulder length brown hair) is the girl-from-the-sticks-who-goes-off-to-be-mecha-pilot (just like Haruka from Xenoglossia). 16 years old and pilots the Reijin mecha.

Karen Sonomiya (the girl with the gray hair and cute pony tails) has an incredible IQ and is scared to talk to boys. Shes also 16 and pilots the Fujin Mecha.

Eika Ichijyo (the girl with the black hair) is the tsundere character and has the largest "eyes" out of the three. 17 years old and pilots the Raijin Mecha.

My fave bishojo/mecha anime was Xenoglossia but now it has to be Sky Girls. The animation quality is outstanding and the girls are awesomely cute. I think my fave is Karen but they are all lovely ^^;
I hope they keep the quality up. After watching the latest episode 2, I sought to watch the OVA which was released last year. T'was 30 mins of pure awesomeness.

If you love 2D girls, mecha, good animation then this should be on your watch list. I started to look for figures but couldn't find any. I'm sure Konami released some...

If you are interested in reading about life in Japan, seeing photos taken daily around Tokyo, like Japanese subculture (anime, manga, figures, Dollfies) then you may want to start delving into the Japan or Figure categories for a start or have a gander at all photo articles.

If you don't have much time now, maybe subscribe to the RSS Feed, Twitter Feed or join the other readers in the FaceBook Page.
Alternatively, you may want to read more about the site.
If you are a regular reader then this message will probably annoy you each time - hide it forever.

    Looked into this, good characters/mecha but generic story. Konami have produced busou shinki figures based on similar characters, maybe they release option parts to turn them into the sky girls characters.

    Sky girls was really good, much better than the OVA. It looks like there will be a serious plot line with character development. The mecha designs are awesome and the %90 male population destroyed is a nice twist. The fansubs are coming out fast so it looks like it will be easy to watch for all of us non Nippon types. I blogged about this on my animetreehouse.com site which also contains a search engine for fansubs if any one is looking for it.
    I can always count on Danny to cover the really relevant Anime coming out of Japan, thanks Danny!

    Watched episode 2 yesterday, it was great.
    The OP theme (Virgin's High by MELL) was the first sign to me that I'd love it. The main characters are TOO cute, I'd watch it just for them even if the story was useless, but so far the story is good as well so I have no complaints.

    Voice Acting is also great, is that one girl Horie Yui? It sounds like her... (the "administrator" girl with the glasses)

    Can't wait for more '-'

    I saw the OVA too last year, and thought it was very good. I liked the fact that the mecha are completely open, so you can actually see the girls do the action ;p
    I wasn't this was the follow up on the OVA, because I was confused by the title of another anime called Rocket Girls.

    I went to d/l and watched Sky Girls after this post yesterday. I thought it was pretty good and yeah it's kind of has that Xenoglossia feel to it. Beautifully animated. But the thing I'm not too sure about with Sky Girls and also with Xenoglossia are the mecha designs. I'm not really into them. Even the character design from Sky Girls isn't really the style I like, they're too cute.

    When it comes to anime styles I prefer stuff like Death Note, Devil May Cry, and Speed Grapher.

    I like character designs, so pretty, especially Otoha. ^^ Loli look don´t bother me, because girls are already over 16 years.

    Loli! No, not interested... sorry.

    They look much more like 14-15 than 16-17, seriously!

    I have other anime priorities, so I will definitely pass.

    Sky girls in my opinion is pretty good (even if it's from Konami). The beginning isn't slow in my opinion (heck I'm easy going so it didn't bother me). Besides that there's a "figure" available but you need to buy the set (click on the link below)

    http://www.konamistyle.jp/ecitem/item33308.html

    Anyway I can't wait for Konami to start a contract with a figure company to make a few figures of the girls with their sonic drivers. If it does come out, my first pic would be Sakurano if Reijin looks awesome. Then Ichijyo after that Sonomiya would be last.

    At the moment I'm pretty pleased with the recently broadcasted ep.

    Nice... it was about time someone picked the idea and turned it into an anime. ^^
