Blended Feed

After over a year of having the News Items and Article feeds separate, today they unite forever into one blended feed.

All feeds now redirect to http://www.dannychoo.com/rss/eng/
If you are subscribed now, you don't need to do anything on your side. If you were subscribed to both then just delete one of the feeds or you will get a double dose.

I've also made many changes to the items in the feed - mainly userbility tweaks.
Lemme know if you spot any problems. I validated the feed at the W3C Validation Service and it seems valid apart from one minor atom error.

The Articles and News Items are stored in different databases and the structure is very different so I'm using PHP Simple Pie to merge the feeds which seems to work well.
Articles will remain to be for the most part original content containing photos that I take at events, of figures and around Japan.

Folks who read the feed will see News Items as a thumbnail while Articles will be the full text. Folks who want to see the full image of the News Item need to click through to the site.

Many people who were subscribed to the Article feed may not know about news items - News Items are usually updates around the otakusphere which include figure releases, anime, eroge news and photos that I take around Japan.
Some of the News Items may be ecchi and if they are then the thumbnail in the feed will be replaced with a default "Is Ecchi" thumbnail meaning that you should wait until you get home to enjoy.
News Items are usually updated a few times per day while the Articles that have more beef are updated at most once a day.

If you are a Featured Feed partner and have trouble with the new feed, try the direct feedburner feed at http://feeds.feedburner.com/dannychoo_com_main_article_feed_eng
Gordonator and others seem to be displaying the feed just fine.

Photo of Gonzague from Akihabara News and I discussing some Internet strategies.

If you are interested in reading about life in Japan, seeing photos taken daily around Tokyo, like Japanese subculture (anime, manga, figures, Dollfies) then you may want to start delving into the Japan or Figure categories for a start or have a gander at all photo articles.

If you don't have much time now, maybe subscribe to the RSS Feed, Twitter Feed or join the other readers in the FaceBook Page.
Alternatively, you may want to read more about the site.
If you are a regular reader then this message will probably annoy you each time - hide it forever.

This item was posted in the Otaku category. You can see more of everything else or subscribe via RSS instead.

    Nice! All working flawlessly.
No changes here since I was using RSS feeds mainly as a warning sign new posts were made on DC.
What I mean is, I never read stuff from RSS feeds only... I always opened all articles before reading them, since I almost always make a comment.

Anyways, deleted the news feed and kept the main one. o/

Yes, that was also my routine. I never actually reads from my rss feeds application cause I usually make comments. That only work as my "alarm clock". XDD

Posting the warning on Puchi Blub here too so Danny sees it...
DC.com feeds on my blog went down.
Warning says: "An error has ocurred. It's possible the feed is currently offline. Try again later."
My blog is hosted on Wordpress.com even though I have my own domain.
And I'm using the main DC.com feed... just checked on the widgets:
http://www.dannychoo.com/rss/eng/ set to show 5 items at a time.

Since Acesan also said he has the same problem, and he also has a Wordpress blog, something on the blending operation might have affected it...

Danny? Back from sleep now, feed still not working.
I took char's advice and changed the URL to feedburner... and it's working fine now.
But I think there's still something on the original URL that Wordpress doesn't like...

that explains why the number of feeds suddenly jumped ^^. good idea.

hmm... seems like i should change my habits of reading feeds once they pop up (now that you ...and... akihabara news will be *bugging* me like every hour or so. haha). i'm impatient and it's too convenient that mine is in safari... i don't like the numbers next to the feeds. >< Maybe i should practice patience and wait till it accumulates to 10 or more before reading it. ^^
