Mac Life

Well its been 3 months since I made the switch to Mac after about 9 years of using Windows as my main machine and I can tell you that its been great so far. As you can imagine, I have been evangelizing the way of Mac to everybody I meet. One thing many Windows users say to me is that the selection of software for Mac is much smaller - so what that windows has about 500 FTP programs to choose from - as a mac user, I only need to choose from 20 and in this case Transmit for OSX is the best FTP software out there.
It has not been such a smooth ride however and while OSX hardly hangs (unlike my windows machines), I do find that many programs just suddenly quit. Firefox crashes everyday which is a shame because it was such a great program on Windows - I just cant wait until they fix the stability.
Dreamweaver has always crashed on Windows and the OSX version is no different. Fireworks is another boo boo - likes to crash when you rotate objects. I used to use Thunderbird but I switched to using Mail now. Thunderbird is a great concept but it seems like the developers are not interested in making it great but rather stick with average - another crash-all-the-time-job.

I am also extremely peeved that I cant browse images when I use the open dialog box- before I open an image for editing or attaching to a mail, I want to see the thumbnail but for some inexplicable reason, those clever folks at Apple decided to disable the Icon view in the open dialog - hmmmm very clever I think not.

Also, which idiot decided that windows can only be resized from the bottom right corner of a window - probably the same idiot who removed the icon view from the open dialog box. It amazes me that Apple can bring out such cool products but hire some thick-as-a-brick UI specialists.

Anyway, gripes aside, I have been really enjoying my new found mac life - I just feel "happy" using OSX.

I am actually trying to get my wife to switch from that steaming pile of beetle dung of a Dell and am fighting an ongoing battle but things have been looking hopefully of late. I got her an iPod mini and after playing around with it for a while and realizing how shit iTunes is on a Windows machine, she is slowly but surely taking interest in OSX after realizing that she can do heaps with ease on a Mac.
