Results of a survey over at Dengeki shows that 46.5% of game players have cried over emotional games.
The top 10 emotional games that made them cry are...

1. PS2 - Final Fantasy X
2. XBOX (and others) CLANNAD
3. PSP Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII
4. PS2 MGS3
5. PSP (and others) Kanon
6. PS2 Tales of the Abyss
7. PSP (and others) AIR
8. NDS (and others) Dragon Quest V
9. PS (and others) Final Fantasy VII
10. PC Little Busters
You can see the Japanese names and list here.

While speaking to the folks at Nitro Plus, they talked about how they want to make eroge more emotional and not just mufufu.
While I dont think I've gotten emotional over a game, there is a game which has made me cry - drove me to tears when I was a teenager - Ghosts n Goblins for the Commodore 64.

As for emotional anime - we spoke that already.
Little Busters CG from Hentai Org.

I cried over Dirge of Cerberus. Especially when they play this song:

FF10 beat FF7? I guess Tidus' disappearance was more baww-inducing than Aerith's death. I don't really know why Tales of The Abyss is in that list, I only finished about half of the game before completely forgetting about it.

I cried during FFX, but it had more to do with Rikki's song than the actual ending. It was so beautiful, and pretty much made the mood for the ending...

Haven't played enough games to find any which made me cry.
From those top 10 listed games, CLANNAD, AIR and Kanon which made it to anime. I loved those series, because it was quite emotional.

I think any game which leaves you feeling emotional are great. It's quite difficult to make somebody cry, it just goes to show how much the player loves the character(s) and/or plot.

I cry tears of joy when playing games that give that "epic" feeling. Also, make a game insanely difficult enough that you can't finish it and when you do, you only get a crappy ending (think to be continued) and you'll see grown men go Niagara falls.

I failed to finish DDR Extreme II (couldn't pass this one challenge) and cried and cried. I also failed to beat Sephiroth in Kingdom Hearts... such a long time ago but cried a ton when my friend beat him in one shot. Oh the epic sadness of it all.

Yes, I have cried/got emotional in several games (not just Final Fantasy). I won't spoil and in no order.

    1.) Suikoden 2 and 5
    2.) Xenosaga 3
    3.) Final Fantasy VII
    4.) Plantetarian
5.) Kana Little Sister (this one the most)
    6.) Final Fantasy Crisis Core

I never actually had tears, with the exception of number 5, but these can/will make almost anyone emotional. ToT

Not so much cried, but definitely worth a mention: Homeworld really touched me more than once. Yes, Homeworld.

    (spoilers)

It starts with the opening scene: The launching of the Mothership still moves me to near-tears every time I see it.
The destruction of Kharak and the desperation of the fleet commanders hit me hard, great voice acting. Then during the final mission (unless you cheat by stealing the entire fleet of Ion-Cannon Frigates 2 missions earlier) there's a point where the enemy sends wave after wave after wave of ships and you can hear Fleet Command go desperate in a "We went through all that, just to get stopped here?". Then all of a sudden, there's another wave... and in an act of absolutely great voice acting you hear "Oh no... We are being overwhelmed!" only to find out a couple of seconds later it's actually a reinforcement, causing everyone to suddenly go mad with relief and the whole tide of the battle turns =D

Man, the adrenaline rush I had when I first played that level nearly 10 years ago... I'll never forget it.

Ever17 hit me really hard too, especially Tsugumi's "good" end and her past.
Oh, and let's not forget Yume Miru Kusuri, although it pissed me off more than made me sad.

I would probably cry in Crisis Core's ending (if it doesn't bore me to death before I reach the ending). I'm sure there were a number of emotional games for me but MGS4 is the most recent. FFVII wouldn't be on my list XD

I've never cried at games, really. But then again my favorite genres are FPSs and RTSs, games that don't really go for the sadness factor. Games that have given me an emotional impact such as genuine include System Shock 2, Clive Barker's Undying, and currently, Dead Space. Other games with emotional impact include BioShock, Deus Ex, and the Half-Life series. Especially the end of Half-Life 2 Episode 2. That did make me sad, although I didn't cry.

yeah, I think Half-Life series kind of standout from other FPS crowd,
especially with its latest Episode 2... can't wait for next one. >_<

System Shock 2 is probably one of my favorite game of all time. Even thought I like Bioshock, I would've love to see a sequel to SS2. Shining Tears had sad moments for me but I don't think I ever cried in a game. MS Saga had some great emotionnal moments, but I'm still waiting for a great Gundam rpg. And not one with SD, even thought I have a lot of SD G Generation games.

I don't really have alot of PC games, especially Japan-based eroges and visual novels. The only ones I have are Kanon, Clannad and Little Busters ~Ecstasy~, and I have to admit, I did shed a few tears over Clannad. As for Little Busters, there's no english translation, and my Japanese is not up to standard yet, so I'll just have to wait and see ^^

Making someone cry over something is easy. Making someone care for a character so that they feel happy or upset when something happens is something much harder in my opinion. Yume Miru Kusuri is the only game (eroge VN in this case) that has been able to make me actually boil with rage over some things happening to Aeka (one of the female leads).

Well, I did feel like jumpig into the screen while playing Halo... whenever they started playing that awesome music of theirs.

An example would be as such. Even Darth Vader would cry manly tears at this: http://www.imeem.com/asesino509/music/hEVNVNwN/martin_odonnell_brothers_in_arms/

I've never cried over any game but Persona 3 got me depressed. One year of hard work and socializing to finally save the earth and the guy basically kills himself just as everyone recovered their memories of what happened. What a crock. Fes just made it worse by confirming it and the Persona Anime was barely connected to the game. Screw you, where's my happy ending? I had half a dozen chicks dangling by my hand!

No doubt FFX...the last scene broke my heart...and it's not Yuna and Tidus scene, where she runs and passes through a fading Tidus. It's when Auron goes...My favorite FFX character. T___T WHY?!!!
