Alafista reports...

A 36-year-old unemployed Japanese women was charged on Wednesday for allegedly asking for help in killing her parents, after they had asked her to clear out part of her manga collection from their home.

According to the police investigation, she had written on the 2channel forum on September 7 at around 11:30 a.m. that she wanted to kill her parents.

She had taken up three rooms of her parents’ home with several thousand manga volumes and numerous video tapes.

She is the second oldest daughter, and her parents had asked her to clear out one room for the 40-year-old oldest daughter to move back in. Her post was seen and then reported to the authorities.

Have your parents complained about your collection before?
I remember my mum got angry at the state of my Star Wars stuff lying around the place and trampled on one of the ships - this was when I was a wee kid though.

Seriously an unemployed 36year-old is shameful.
Where did she exactly get the money for the manga, her parents?!
Parent took care of her and she want them dead, the parents could boot her out of the house for all I care.

That's what I was thinking. People these days, don't know how to appreciate their parents. Three rooms full for crying out loud. I don't see the harm in moving stuff around even if you don't want to get rid of it.

lol if she can memorize all the phrases/sentence in each manga book, i'll let her keep them and not move them. In fact, i'll buy her some more lol.
Are they even that important? Probably not, since she probably can't even remember the title of all the manga she bought

They complain about it all the time actually. Thankfully I have my own room and I keep things neat and organized. It doesn't get in their way at all which helps a bit too. All my manga is kept in a large bookcase and all my figures (with the exception of my current fave. Figmas',) stay in my glass case. I guess the only complaint they have is over the perceived lewdness of some of the figures.

I think her Parents should have been more supportive of her daughters interest. They should be grateful to have an Otaku for a daughter. Personally I would love to have an Otaku for a son (we would watch anime together.and I wouldn't complain about his collection either, and buy him FIGMAS for his birthday) But it is a shame that she is unemployed and living in her parents house at 36. (Several thousands of Manga volume might be a bit too much for me though)

That is going a bit too far I think. Being supportive of your child's interests is one thing but condoning a sedentary lifestyle like the one the daughter chose is just terrible. I wouldn't mind if my child decided to become a complete geek like me, but he/she needs to understand getting an education and a job comes first.

Honestly, i think i have like one/two manga volumes and all the rest is DIGITAL (that's where the future is). It's SO EASY to just download and read on the comp which i actually prefer to "real reading". And yeah in my country it's pretty hard getting asian stuff which isn't SERIOSLY OVERPRICED ..same with comics. So no, i have pretty much nothing of manga laying around and SHAME on that woman for trying to kill her parents for fleeting moments of happiness.

My parents almost never throw books out. They have a house in the middle of nowhere with 7k or so sq feet of space. If necessary, I could take all of my old books and put them in a bookshelf there and no one would care; there is way more than enough space. Actually, in this case, I could probably fill up 4 rooms with manga and they wouldn't care all that much. After all, they're books. Videos might be slightly more problematic, but my parents really hold books in high regard. They have collections of useless old books that I think are junk, but well....they're books. Books are good.

My parents sometimes tell me to stop buying games or figures but I don't really care. I'll be moving out soon so tolerate. I only take one room so they don't care about space, it's more about my addiction or something. But I have friends and I'm not a hikikomori so I don't get why they get upset like that, meh.

I also work full time and have a good paying job, I don't smoke or do drugs and I drink rarely so all I use my money on is games figures, mangas and anime. I, however, would never think of killing my parents, or anyone for that mater.

Also my parents never bugged me about having way too much stuff, only asked to keep things as tidy as possible.
But wanting parents dead for that reason... I don't think so, maybe theres more behind this story that what is given to public knowledge. (prison time = free food and bed and no parents to bug ya) ^^ just a tought.

Yeah. Especially since there are rules. And the rules state that:

      1) She has to live in her parent's basement.
      2) Must be into D&D and/or Star Trek (which I think manga can be a substitute).

Never got real complaints about having otaku stuff around, mainly because my mom is an angel on Earth. XD

Though I guess she gets worried about me spending so much money on stuff like that.
She's very very understanding about my hobbies and stuff, and I sometimes abuse that side of her...

I'm not this messy too. Have lots of books, but they are all in bookcases, not lying around the floor.

But if someday my mom asks me to get rid of my books with some good reason (like the girls case), I'd do it without thinking twice, even thoough I love my book collection.

I'd take a bullet for my mom, so doing something like that girl did is just unthinkable.

Ah, I remember reading this same article, but was in my local Sydney newspaper. They called manga "comics" otherwise the typical Aussie wouldn't know what they were talking about. They've left a few details out on this version of the article. THe money the daughter got to buy that stuff is supposedly from her grandma, not the parents.

Still though, the woman, if she's not employed, should just get married and let her husband support her manga habits. I'm sure there would be someone out there that would take her, even if she was ugly :P. I mean, she's an otaku! Some guys dream about having an otaku gf.

Of course, the reason I am what I am now is because of my parents' raising me. And the fact that my Dad threw out anything I left lying around in my cramped HK apartment when I was young.

Dang. To want to kill her parents at that age over manga. There should be a limit to obsession.

For my collection, when I get leave I'm giving most of all my Star Wars collection to the church. My parents didn't ask me to. I'm doing it cause it cause I think I may have out grown them, or the latest works just ruined it for me. At least, I'll have more room for anime and videogame stuff.

As for my parents complaining about my collection. It does happen and is justified. That is also a perk of letting go of my Star Wars collection.

The only problems i see here is the fact that she wanted to kill her parents AND that she is unemployed. Maybe if she had a job she would enjoy life a lot better. 3 rooms full of manga and VHS is fine but you also have to know how to keep your stuff organized.

And believe me, i think right now my mother would rather have me have my anime & manga scattered all over the place instead of having my old spraypaint & graffiti tools laying all over the place. I'm a retired graffiti artist. Over a month now since i last used aerosol.

I opted to sell some of my collectionables or give them to friends. Now I have only my Ultra Magnus figure and the old Commodore 64 RPGs...

My mom used to complain about my collection when I was a kid, but now she even admire my figures. I think that what made her change was the fact that now I pay with my own money.

I used to have problems with my mangas and those old tapes (especially dragonball series) when I was a kid. As I didn't have a bookcase or anything I stack them up in the corner and once my maid thought it was trash. My mum told her to take it out to the garbage but lucky for me I was just coming home from school and went all nuts about my stuff being thrown out. Now my parents don't mind my stuff, as long they are displayed nicely and keep properly. My mum fancy my Igunis the White figure :D

They don't mind; in fact my father borrowed To-Luv-Ru from me to read. He finished it in 20 minutes per volume compared to my three days per book. (It was in Chinese.)

I used to have a whole table with an awesome lego castle in my room until perhaps 7:th grade. While they never did anything than threaten me, they sure were happy to help when I decided it had to go.
Still got all the blocks in a box somewhere, so it's not like I betrayed my lego or anything.

My parents like anime but hate it whenever there's a mess anywhere in the house. And we read completely different genres of manga. :p

There's a thing called "shacks" in which you can rent by the month. Simple. Why couldn't she do that?

If that's impossible, why not have a friend or two keep some of the manga? Simple. Even I would have asked a friend to hold my manga for me.

Thats just retarded to want to kill your parents just cause they ask to clear out a part of manga. I mean your probably not going to read all of the that so you can probably at LEAST get rid of some of them or think of something ELSE. Some people are really F***ed up...

Manga is so expensive how did she do that unemployed probablt using the parents money, I would die of the guilt >_<
    Poor Parents.
Since manga is so expensive in my mind i only have a few of them and just read the mangas online sadly.
When I was little I barracadded the door to my bedroom once because I didnt want to clean my room, but now I just do it on my own because now I hate seeing clutter without a purpose.
And now my clutter has changed from little dolls and doll houses to video game related items and schoolwork.
But I never want to kill my parents,
