Was not too sure about Claymore but soon discovered that I needed my weekly dose of it - especially after this weeks episode which had me shed a tear toward the end ^^;
The story revolves around the heroine named Claire who is half demon/half Youma (demon). When she was younger, she was taken and developed into this half breed in order to kill Youma (妖魔(ようま)). A Youma (pronounced 'yourmah' (no, not 'your mum')) is a demon who has a fancy for internal organs of humans. From what we have seen so far, a Youma can take the form of a human and transform into a Youma when its feeling peckish. A Youma has varying strengths but usually strong enough to split a human in two with one swing - this is the reason why 'the organization' needs a half human/half Youma to kill a Youma.
Being half human, Claire has the ability to control the Youma inside of her - she can summon the Youma strength at will but the more she uses the Youma power, the more she becomes a Youma. Claire knows that one day she will become a Youma and forget that she was ever a human - she too would go around eating the guts of humans.
This weeks episode saw Claire using up too much of her Youma strength after a battle with a huge Youma. She struggles to suppress the Youma inside from consuming her completely and asks her battle buddies to kill her while she is still sane as a human...

The swords, demons, blood spewing all over the gaff and the setting is reminiscent of the Devil May Cry series which I love - oh and the pumping rock music too.
The animation is not as fluid as I would like but the interesting story more than makes up for it. Claire is not the typical Bishojo but there is something about her that I like - could be her voice.
Claymore is on every Tuesday night at 1.26AM just after Death Note on Nippon TV.

Late night anime? hmm, is it because the workers come late home from overtime/company outing?

As for claymore, I love it! Top on my watch list right now. I was rather surprised though when i heard the series is going to be around 50 episodes.

I have to agree with Danny, Claymore is truly entertaining. Kind of like a Vampire Hunter D with a female heroine and a Blood + but in a different time line.

The story is developing nicely with Claymore can hardly wait for each episode to come out.

Yea the animation may not be to smooth at times but the art style really grabbed me the first time I watched it. Every episode there are at least three or four scenes that make me think they would make great posters or desktop wallpapers. Whoever they have doing storyboards is doing a great job.

Pretty good anime, I really like the female main character. The kid is somewhat annying though.

Elements of it remind of Berserk for some reason.

I don't usually like the gory anime shows, but I really do like Claymore quite a bit. Mostly just to see what Clare is going to do next. I don't know if I'm in the minority or not here, but I thought she looked a lot better with brown eyes. I also love the opening song for this show. Anyone got a title and artist for that song?

I'm also liking Claymore more and more.

And about the OP, it's called "Raison d'être" from the group Nightmare, who also did the first OP & ED of Death Note.
The ED also rocks imo, it's by Kosaka Riyu - Danzai no Hana~Guilty Sky~
Can't wait to hear the full version when single comes out next month. Reminds me a little bit of Within Temptation.

Definitly would want both full versions :)

The anime is faithful to the manga except for the ending part. Hopefully they have a second season, alot of character from the manga are not introduced yet and there's no conclusion to the plot yet.

Didn't claymore finish a while ago?
Anyway I really enjoyed it. I loved claire, she was a strong character and I love how the fact that she was the lowest ranked didn't even bother her. she just kept on truckin'!

Great post Danny, I love Claymore. It reminds me of Berserk but with hot chicks that can't control themselves. I had to stop reading it because I was getting to far ahead in the story and running out of manga to read!

i've seen the series. there are a lot of moments there that can really leave you hanging. i also cried when you-know-who got her head chopped off in a blink of an eye. this is a good series, not great, but worth watching for sure!!!

I was going to watch this, but after reading the reviews for the series, I decided to skip out.

There seems to be a general consensus that after the series stopped following the manga, the show started to turn bad. It was one of those started off awesome ending up crap anime...

Yup the manga is way better...especially at the end.....BUT up until the end the anime is very faithful and I loved seeing all the beautiful Claymores in action! The opening song was also very addicting for me, I watched it every time.

But I beg of you if you watch the anime and love it...read the manga please...it has so much more plot. I hated the ending to the anime so much.
