Lately I've been seeing other major otaku blogs in Japan take photos from magazines, manga etc. Is my understanding that scanning is evil but photos-of-mags is OK?
Anyway, I really wanted to show you these - 1:100 scale ultra modded Kampfer. I would just love to be able to spend time making one of these...
Images from Hobby Japan.

Need to shoot off to Wonder Festival now - first batch of reports follow tomorrow.

If you are interested in reading about life in Japan, seeing photos taken daily around Tokyo, like Japanese subculture (anime, manga, figures, Dollfies) then you may want to start delving into the Japan or Figure categories for a start or have a gander at all photo articles.

If you don't have much time now, maybe subscribe to the RSS Feed, Twitter Feed or join the other readers in the FaceBook Page.
Alternatively, you may want to read more about the site.
If you are a regular reader then this message will probably annoy you each time - hide it forever.

This item was posted in the Gundam category. You can see more of everything else or subscribe via RSS instead.

Is taking photo from mags really due to the evilness of scanning or is it just a plain excuse for laziness?

Scanning takes quite a few secs for high res and you need to resize it whereas photo taking is just one click.

Besides its possible to take photo at the mag store or bookshop, wouldnt that be more evil?

whoa... holy shi- now thats a kick ass mod. personally, i'd love to find a way not to fudge up my painting on the kits i build.

kampfers's aesthetic and mechanical design has always been uber sexay. well, so is the sazabi as well, in my books. i really like that feudal samurai armor look they give the zeon suits.

neways, enjoy yourself at WF! take lotsa pics for us to drool over!~

Great looking model. There's nothing wrong with taking pictures/scanning of magazines...well as long as it's not illegal. But the other thing that's evil you did was the horrifying cosplay picture sometime ago. That is forever burned into my brain, shame on you!

Wow! Very nice mods on that Kampfer. I wish I could do that but then again, I don't have much time to do those mods.

Good luck on your trip, Danny. Bring home a lot of pictures, ok?

That is one awesome Kampfer model! The first photo you took, of the Kampfer standing over the Zion flag, would make a great poster. =D

    Hey Danny,

How do you prepare the scan, do you take the pages from the magazine apart (just cutting them from the edge or is there a secret technique?) and scan them, then file away the loose pages in a binder or portfolio?

Come to think of it, this sounds like a solution to deal with my boxes of HJ or DH - just save the meat of the magazine and burn the ads...
