Anime Sequels

Another interesting anime topic to talk about - sequels.
The Minamike Okawari wasn't really a sequel for me as it was a totally different production studio (I think) even though the seiyuu were the same. So yes - more of Minamike is good especially if its the first production studio working on it.
Would be interesting to see a Cowboy Bebop sequel but its such a classic that maybe it should be left as be. I also want more of Solid State Society.
A terrible sequel would be DieBuster - sequel to GunBuster.
What anime would you choose to have a sequel and what sequels do you think should never have been made?
Original text from BandAiD below.
I'm sure for a number of people here, there is an anime that hold a special place in their heart, be it for any reason, such as maybe the experiences in it were similar to what you had experienced, so you could connect to it on a level? Perhaps it was just something that could just make you smile no matter what.
Let's say hypothetically you were an executive for numerous different TV stations, and had the power solely to green-light anime to go into production. Thinking hard about it, you decide to go with a sequel to an existing anime. What anime would you choose? Why?
Now for some people, just because you might have favorite anime A, doesn't mean you'd want to see a continuation of it because it just may be perfect as it is.
I'd personally would love to see ARIA continue, yes it's true it had 3 seasons, but 3 amazing seasons at it. The end of ORIGINATION did a wonderful job of tying things up, but you can't help but wonder what happens after that, especially a long running one like ARIA, you kind of almost feel like you're part of the family, and when they go away you miss them.
What anime would you choose to have a sequel for, and why?
Image from Gelbooru which features the main character of ARIA.

Honestly I've never seen FMP yet. I heard some good things about it, but the fansubs I could find of it, doesn't work on my Mac for some strange reason. (old codec being used, which isn't supported).

Try VLC. It's open source, so it supports a lot of really obscure codecs and formats most other programs won't touch with a 29 1/2 foot pole.

Hmmm well, I hear there's supposed to be another FMP novel coming out soon. Maybe they're waiting on that - the series is certainly successful enough to warrant another sequel.
As for ARIA, the slow pace and nothing-happens sort of approach means another season could work - so long as you don't repeat the exact same plot points, which might be hard. You'd also need new characters as Singles and Pairs. Honestly, I really want to see Akari/Aika/Alice as primas. Being such an avid fanboy though, I want more but I'm so very nervous about them messing it up. ^^;

Speaking of Full Metal, I loved and will love to see the sequel to Full Metal Alchemist 1. I'm hearing so much commotion going on about Season 2 and begun being so excited about it. The other would be Trinity Blood and Slam Dunk. Why Trinity Blood? Many critics said that it is one of the worst anime out there, but really loved the experience watching it. It has so many questions that they left unanswered so sequel may fix it. And yes Slam Dunk, the best anime sports ever. Hope to see Sakuragi Hamichi again in court! XDD

Wait, WHAT? They're making a new FMA season? I think my brain just melted out of my ears in shock.
Call me crazy, but I'd almost prefer a remake that centers more closely on the manga than an outright sequel. But another part of me still wants to know what happens to Ed and Al in our world in the anime version. . .

I think they are waiting for the novels to finish before making another series to give them more options. There's quite a bit of source material since the end of Owari day by day (animated as TSR) but the story gets pretty damn bleak soon after.
No spoilers but there are a lot of deaths later on. If they made the series now, They could end it at the point of the introduction of Laevatin but that pretty much forces them to make a final series afterwards (or it would be one of the worst cliffhangers ever!) and they don't know how much more material they will have to work with.
ARIA's one of my favorite series, but in this case I felt they probably ended it at an appropriate place. There can be too much of a good thing, after all, so deciding to end the series before it possibly got stale was a sound decision. Besides, the manga had already ended so there's not really any new material to base stories off of.
That said, I would still LOVE to see more of it, perhaps in the form of OVAs or a movie. Despite the fact that there's no huge intricate plot to the series, there's still so much to discover and enjoy about the setting and characters.
Soporte Tecnico
Maybe OVAs like marimite...
http://www.sankakucomplex.com/
Not sure if it'd count as a sequel, but a new TV series of Genshiken to finish off the manga story. IIRC they 2 TV series and OAVs got up to tankouban 6 or 7 of 9 total.
And yes, more of FMP would be a sweet announcement ;) Would be saying the same about Hagaren/ FMA, but it's already been announced and word's that it'll probably be a re-boot instead of continuation from the original series/movie. No clue if that's true or not.
Student
Yes, if they finished Genshiken story, it would be nice. I wonder why they haven't, if I remember correctly, it was popular enough..

I feel like I'm triple-posting. >< But personally, I want to see (yet) another installment of Initial D. Fourth Stage ended rather open-endedly, and there's enough manga now to make another season. In my opinion, the seasons just got worse as time went on, but I'm hoping it'll redeem itself.

A good adaption of Negima please.
I mean, christ. Akamatsu is cursed or something, so far every single anime they made from his series (except the newest OAD by SHAFT) sucked horribly.
The OAD proves it is definitely possible to properly animate Negima though. Great art, animation, music, everything, and that was done on one of the lowest budgets ever (it's not sponsored...) so imagine what they could do with lots of money.
(At the very least, animate the Mahora Budokai ;_;)

Rumor is that the mangaka is an RPG nut, and whatever Dragon Quest comes out he literally drops everything to play it. I'd love to see Hunter x Hunter continue, as it has probably the best character development I've ever seen in a shounen. I believe I read somewhere that after the current arc is over in the manga, they are planning on making an anime version of it. However I believe it'll be another OVA.

I'd also like for Hunter x Hunter to continue.
FMA 2nd season was announced, and I'm waiting for it.
Just started watching Hidamari Sketch 365 and I'm glad they continued the series.
I'd really like to see more of Shinobuden, Azumanga Daioh, the original Galaxy Angels and some other comedies...
... I can't think of any series that I watched and didn't like the second season... though I have to admit I have watched very few second seasons.
Well, maybe the Kimi ga Nozomu Eien OVA wasn't necessary. Perfect anime with perfect ending was perfect already. :P
I have a big problem with them because I watch too much stuff and usually forget about the plots real quick. So, when a second season comes out, usually I have to rewatch the first season again. Which forces me to push those to the end of the list, since my priority is always try to watch new stuff.
Same problem I have with long running series I stopped watching in the middle for some reason. Like One Piece... I love it, but had problems with subbing, had to stop watching by episode 100, and now I will only go back to it if I have the time to rewatch it all over again...
It's still on my watch list the second season of: Rozen Maiden, Zero no Tsukaima, Shakugan no Shana, School Rumble, Genshiken, Ghost in the Shell (both series and movie) and tons and tons of others.
Dropping computers, starting all over again at Journalism
http://immalion.com
Oh, about Cowboy Bebop... yeah, it would be nice to see more crazy stuff with the gang. But I also think that the nice was perfect, so a second season could end up being inexpressive.
Or just a bunch of loose extra stories.
And it would also be kinda hard to gather all the great minds behind all the key points in it... because to be a decent second season worthy of it's name, not only the animation studio would have to be the same and seyuus, but the music would have to be composed by Seatbelts and Yoko Kanno...
About Aria... I just started watching. Got interested in it after reading the first volume of AQUA. Glad to hear it's a great anime, will keep watching.

More "Aria" would indeed be great. Since the story comes full circle at the end with Akari, Alice and Aika having become prima undines. Plus we get that extra scene that takes places a few years later when Akari gets Ai-chan as an apprentice.
So if they introduce a new generation of apprentices next to Ai-chan, there's plenty to tell about Akari, Alice and Aika's days as prima undines each with their own apprentices!
I'd like to see a new season of Suzuliya Haruhi once the novels are far enough since they're really doing interesting stuff there. Same for "Full metal Panic" and "Spice & Wolf" as others mentioned.
But my choice of heart.... more "Aria", anytime, anyday... since there's no real plot, it can have plenty of day to day short stories, but the atmosphere, the whole world of Neo-Venezia and the bubbly, unique characters. More please!

A friend of mine told me that the Japanese view sequels in a different way to America, that they like to finish things while they are popular rather than flogging them to death. Anyone can vouch for that opinion?
As much as I like to see a good show keep going you always worry if they will mess it up, especially if theres been a large gap between series and a change of cast/studio.

Ok, well I'm going to go against the grain here and say that I really don't want to see another season of ARIA. As much as I'm the rabid ARIA fanboy (and if anyone knows where I could get the Solid Works Alicia for less than a zillion dollars I'd love to know), I kind of liked where it left off. It's perfect as is. Keep going and you wind up with, to diverge from the Anime sphere for a moment, Stargate SG1 which really should have finished around season 8. Staying outside quickly, I also don't want to see another season of Firefly. Like ARIA, there's enough there to make you love it and you always want more... which is exactly the way both shows should be... besides, any sequel would be lacking a Book and a Wash.
Stuff I would like to see more of: FMP! could definately use another season. TTGL's got plenty of scope for more shows as well, and seeing the continuing adventures of the gang from Black Lagoon would also be enjoyable.
Sequels I wish had never been made. Going to get shot for this: ToHeart2. I loved the original ToHeart anime, but ToHeart2 just didn't cut it for me.

Uhm won't rehash some of the commenter's choices above like FMP or gunslinger. I propose Claymore. Looking at the ending in the 1st season, I'd guess there's not much chance in a second, unless they want a story that diverges even further than the manga. But I do so want a "fix" to the ending and a continuation of the manga's story in the 2nd season. sigh.

I sooooo agree with more seasons of Aria, set in the future after *insert spoilers here* happen. Read my review on Aria located on my MAL, it really expresses how much I love the series. I'd love to see some more Sketchbook, but because it wasn't that huge of a success, I can't really see that happening. Well...
-Lucky Star is getting the OVA treatment. So if that is successful, maybe a second season should be considered.
-A second season of Haruhi Suzumiya was announced and said to be based on "The Vanishment of Haruhi Suzumiya" (which is ironic, since that story is currently happening in Shonen Ace). And that means more seasons might be made once "The Astonishment of Haruhi Suzumiya" is finally published.
And...
-Record of Lodoss War getting three seasons, and have these based on the novels (which are separated by three eras) could help bring in a new fanbase and give us something more true to the franchise.
And...
-Full Metal Panic! might be a good idea for another season, just to conclude the Sousuke x Kaname relationship... I am wondering if Chris Patton would return for the English dub version.

Sequels/Prequels can be the death of a fandom sometimes... so, I approach them with caution. I wouldn't ming seeing Sequels/Prequels of these: FMP, ARIA, GITS..and a few other shows that need an OVA or two to finish ^^

Full Metal Panic, Haruhi (announced), Lucky Star (OVA coming), more GITS is always good, Claymore (DEFINITELY, and hopefully HD in second season), Azumanga, Black Lagoon 3rd season (announced) Minami-ke (but also with the same production company as first season), Hayate no Gotoku (announced), Shana 3rd season (2nd season got some really good progression in the story).

Trinity Blood, definitely. More Gakuen Alice and Bamboo Blade would be nice. Also, Fate, as long as it contains less Shirou. >_> And a remake of Ichigo 100% would be a dream come true.

Darker than Black, Full Metal Alchemist, Full Metal Panic & Bamboo Blade would be on my list of wanted sequels.

I would love to see a sequel to Berserk. Such a bloody story with great animation and story. Definitely want to see the continuation of the storyline with Guts (Gatsu) and the rest of his gang in his ongoing effort to take down Griffith and his newly formed Band of the Hawk. But that isn't likely. ::pouts::

Sequels spell disaster for me. There's still nothing that can beat the original. But I wouldn't mind seeing one on FMP-TSR and F/SN(more likely a prequel)

A sequal is only as good as the stong plot that they introdsued in the first part and not forgetting the basic.

Strawberry Panic needs a sequel.
Bokurano is fine as it is.
Kannazuki no Miko needs a remake.

I think there should be a sequel to IGPX, they didn't leave much out but I still think it could work. Naruto Shippuden in my opinion shouldn't have been made, Naruto got off track WAY before it ever came out.
