Tokyo Tower

Spent 8 years in Tokyo and never been to Tokyo Tower at all as the touristy image just put me off from wanting to go.
After spending some time in Ginza, we decided to have a meal to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary back at the place we met - Benihana (we met at the Benihana back in Chelsea London).
Benihana in Tokyo is not the same as the Benihanas around the world. In Japan, there are no chefs throwing knifes and only one Benihana near Tokyo station does the Teppan Yaki. All the other Benihana restaurants in Tokyo have turned into a bog standard restaurant. I think this could because that a similar style of eating called Yakiniku can be eaten just about everywhere and for much cheaper.
Anyway, we decided to pop along to the tower to find that most of the people visiting were Japanese couples and not tourists.
You can pay to go up to the first platform at 145m and then pay some more to go up to the 250m platform. As you can see, the views are fantastic. The lighting is low enough to get good-ish shots but not low enough. I dont think tripods are allowed and thought I could get away with a high ISO setting but the photos came out a bit noisy.
I dont normally Photoshop my images and let one of my PHP scripts rotate, resize, watermark and upload everything for me. Thought I would open Photoshop to see how rusty my skills became and surely indeed I cant remember half of the functions - you can see some of my previous Photoshop attempts from many years ago in the artwork gallery. Left in the original pre-photoshop attempts for comparison.

If you are interested in reading about life in Japan, seeing photos taken daily around Tokyo, like Japanese subculture (anime, manga, figures, Dollfies) then you may want to start delving into the Japan or Figure categories for a start or have a gander at all photo articles.

Danny, congratulations to you both on your 10th wedding anniversary! I've hear this before, go to Tokyo Tower this time of the year, and you feel like you are part of a couples tour. ^^; I wonder if couples still leave padlocks on the tower...
Never critical of your photo skills because I'm definitely not a pro as well. Did you shot these threw Plexiglas? You probably used evaluative mode or standard mode. My 20D will do the same in this metering mode. It just can't make up it's little electronic mind how it wants to set exposure. Anyway, your photos are interesting. It's amazing how alive the city feels at night from the air. Every once in a while, we will get to see Central Florida and Orlando through the HUD of the Space Shuttle during night landing. It feels just like these photos.

BEAUTIFUL scenery. Thanks for the photos!
Really, though, I can't imagine living there. While I'll be visiting Japan for a period of time in the future, I really kind of hope I spend more time closer to nature than. Yet I hope I get to see the Tokyo Tower view in person.
Oh, a note on registration: Registration went well (I can live without mixed-case usernames), but it seemed the screen telling me to check for the confirmation email had the incorrect encoding declared (as observed by me on Safari). I can't really confirm *exactly* what the problem is, since I was booted back to the registration form before I could check everything, but I'm sure you can figure it out. And I'm sure it won't matter once the form is in English. Perhaps other browsers compensate better, as well.

Late to the party, but I'd like to give my congrats. Seeing Tokyo Tower should be one of the first tasks I do when I go to Tokyo. I could have sworn that it'll be redesigned in five years, give or take a year.

I suppose that can happen to a lot of people, you tend to not want to see the tourist spots in your own country, I haven't seen half the things people mention they want to see if they come to Ireland :D

Great pictures. Especially the ones of the busy intersection. They remind me of what you might see when you are awake but at the point of falling asleep. Very cool.

The view is equally magnificent plus you get the nice feel of wind plastered to your face! But yeah they don't allow any tripods up there either. Dang!

I like the first shot, looks like the tower is bending... Man, I wish I was there LOL
I was gone in tokyo tower one time but it was the day, not the night... The view was not great at all...
But I prefer the original version aka "Eiffel Tower" ^^

Great view from there, in the 2nd and 3rd photo the array of colours looks magnificent. Makes me want to go up there, probably wont though... save money for shopping, and enjoy the scenery on the ground.
