Stumbled onto this sweet Thai singer called Waii who I know absolutely nothing about.

Which made me think that there must be more cute singers in each region that you should tell us about ^^;
As for Japan - the cutest (and sexiest) singer in my mind is probably Nana Tanimura.

If you are interested in reading about life in Japan, seeing photos taken daily around Tokyo, like Japanese subculture (anime, manga, figures, Dollfies) then you may want to start delving into the Japan or Figure categories for a start or have a gander at all photo articles.

If you don't have much time now, maybe subscribe to the RSS Feed, Twitter Feed or join the other readers in the FaceBook Page.
Alternatively, you may want to read more about the site.
If you are a regular reader then this message will probably annoy you each time - hide it forever.

My region indeed. The concept of '[cute' has been thouroughly lost by the brittish music industry.

    Yes, she's cute.

Unfortunately, most of Thai singers sell their appearances rather than their songs.

I don't think it's just Thai singers... I think ALL Asian countries do that. :P There are lots of quality singers in HK, TW, etc., but they're independent artists, not mainstream. Unfortunately, good looks + bad singing = sales, but bad looks + good singing = no sales.

No offence but just to voice my 2 cents...

I think Nana Tanimura is more to sexy than cute, although there is a bit of cuteness in the face. I think there are quite a few singers in Japanese who are of this caterogy, for example Koda Kumi(spelling?) etc.... and I also realised their songs are more pop commercial than others.

The singer I like who is good and doesn't need big eyes to market... is Mika Nakashima.

Let's admit it -- the main qualification for being a popular singer these days is to be cute.

How often do you ever see a solo singer (girl or boy) or a group and think, "I don't fancy that much...?"

It has also spread to classical music.

Look at the Beijing Olympics. They put the actual singing girl on tape and let a pretty young girl mime, to present the right image.

Yeah, it's rare. Though it sort of doesn't deal with music, I have a friend who thought that (the late) Anita Mui didn't look that great, but he liked her roles. Oh and in case you don't know, she did have the ability to sing.

Now, if you want to be a singer, you can't just have the voice. You need the looks too. That or family history.

I'd say it's the other way for a lot of singers. They have the looks. They don't have the voice, but that gets covered up in the production.

It's not a new thing, but it's got worse thanks to TV becoming an important medium for music to be spread.

Another member of the Amuro Namie-san fan club here.

I so need to listen to her new album. So need to buy it while I am at it. On a side note, you rarely see me go to a karaoke session without singing an Amuro-san song. The last time I did this that I remember of was when I was at Max's Karaoke in Torrance last year. I so want to go back to Max's because that's the best venue I've been to, though Gamba's in Cupertino is decent also.

I also like Nakashima-san. Very good singer. Just that she is way under appreciated in America.

For those that know Tanimura-san (Dan), when did she burst onto the scene? If it's like 2004 or so, it shouldn't be a surprise that I never caught on her early. I usually don't follow new acts anyway.

Cute singers in America? Utada Hikaru-san is from New York City! Oh and Park Hyung Jung/Lena is from Los Angeles! Those two are cute! I can't remember if this is true, but besides being from America, they both have the blood type of A. Too bad not many people in America know who they are.

I never watched nor listened to Thai music before, but this one is pretty good! My impression of it is it's like a cross between K-pop and Cantopop. MV style is almost identical to most HK MVs.

Cute American Singers . . . Uh . . . Yeah, I'm not coming up with any. Very few artists in America go for the 'cute' appeal. Many go for 'sexy' and 'real' and even a few rely on the fact that they actually have talent but . . . Cuteness is not really appreciated here as much as it should be. ._<

Cuteness in America, hmm...I am not picking up on any. I admit I am not up to date on the music, and if they are female singers that are out now, rarely any of them show anything cuteness. As others said, they are looking to be "sexy" or just trying to look "tough and edgy."
