Where do you go for Otaku Shopping

Marvin asks a very good question - where do you go to get your otaku goodies in your region?
In London I went to the Japan Center in Piccadilly or China Town and in Seattle I went to the Asian District.
Original text from marvin below.
Of course every Otaku would know that Akihabara as the place to go to when in Japan. however where are the places you go to in your area for your Otaku needs?
if you have an Otaku visitor, where would you take him/her?
in Manila the place to be at, for Otaku products is Greenhills Shopping Arcade in San Juan, there are a number of shops in V-Mall and Shoppesville. there are also decent eats around the area.
During my trip to Singapore, fellow otakus lead me to China Square Central. a grand place for otaku shopping.
how about your area? if your fellow otakus were go shopping in your area/country where should he/she go?
If you are interested in reading about life in Japan, seeing photos taken daily around Tokyo, like Japanese subculture (anime, manga, figures, Dollfies) then you may want to start delving into the Japan or Figure categories for a start or have a gander at all photo articles.
If you don't have much time now, maybe subscribe to the RSS Feed, Twitter Feed or join the other readers in the FaceBook Page.
Alternatively, you may want to read more about the site.
If you are a regular reader then this message will probably annoy you each time - hide it forever.

hard to be an otaku in California?, California is the second place where more anime and manga shops are, go to little tokyo, you can get up to date mangas from japan, and they have anime jungle and other anime shops from japan

i can really relate to that.....there's only Comics n stuff here in my area anyone else were just sooo far away... if ur really gonna make a hobby or anime shop here in CA let me know... i wanna pay it a visit...
LIKE U SAID "ITS HARD TO BE AN OTAKU IN CA"
There are 3 or 4 shops that I know of around the O.C. (supposedly more, if you go asking around), but your best best is probably one called Anime Nuts.
For those people saying there's no where to find Japanese merchandise in California, maybe you're just not looking in the right place?
Student, part-time slave
http://yakuri.wordpress.com/
It's the easiest to be Otaku in California, unless you don't live in the big cities and want a store to be within walking distance to your home. Jungle Anime and Power Anime are two of the stores I visit and they are very nice, with lots of figurines.
Pirate
There are stores scattered around California, but as far as I know there are no Otaku specific shopping malls. The problem with the stores are that you can usually find all you need online and often for considerably cheaper.
Little Tokyo in LA (and even in San Fran, really) would be the closest you could get to a "mall", what with having a bunch of Japanese merchandise shops, like Jungle and Kinokunya, all close together.

And I always thought USA would had many shops. :O Well Usually I buy online because I live in such small city and actually there is only few shops in Finland's capital city that are full anime/manga shops.

Wah! I don't know how to go to Greenhills by myself! Do I ride the MRT or the LRT? BTW I live in Parañaque so that would mean if I ride the LRT I go to Baclaran station x_x

Student/Evil Overlord
Marvin is right. You can ride a jeepney in front of Robinson's Galleria and that would take you directly to Greenhills. Just ask around if you can't find it. Another way is to go to down at Santolan MRT station and take a 10-15 minute walk through annapolis street(good exercise too mind you). You'll reach greenhills from there.

Where exactly in Paranaque do you live?
If you live somewhere in Sucat or Bicutan, you can ride a Cubao bound bus from South Superhighway. Be sure to look for a "Ortigas Ilalim" bus.
Tell the bus conductor to drop you off at Robinson's Galleria (EDSA Shrine). From there ask around on where you can get a San Juan bound jeep. Tell the jeepney driver to drop you off at Greenhills. It will cost you around Php7.50 from Robinsons Galleria to Greenhills by jeep.
Hope this helps ^___^

In New York City there are various places in Manhattan that you can get your stuff.
One nice area is like known as unofficially "Japan Town," It is St Marks Pl. and Astor Place, right around the NYU campus, few blocks away from Soho Broadway, You can find a lot of shit there. Has awesome Japanese restaurants and stuff too. WORTH IT!

Thank you! I knew there was an unofficial "Japan Town", but I had no idea where to go, once I actually got into the city.

Here in France, more specifically Paris, we have some shops selling figures but the best has to be Nautilus
http://www.nautilus-anime.com
They know what they sell, they are very friendly and serviceable
the only problem has to be the size of the shop; it is very well located within Paris but the shop is very small
http://flickr.com/photos/sklyanchuk/
In Paris I get my goodies mostly from Konci - http://www.konci.net and there's also another smaller shop named Tokyo Toys on the same street (never seen many people inside, but got my Fauna from them ^_^). There's also some shop in latin area just next to Notre Dame, but the choice is really limited there.
Will check Nautilus next weekend, thx for info :)

Be careful there are a lot of bootlegs in Konci.
To my mind Nautilus is the best otaku shop in Paris. We've also Junku a good but expensive japenese library and book off.
Junku doesn't sell that much goodies and figures ... there are some, right; but very scarcely ... and expensive!
Kyouray, i second you about Konci, i advice people to avoid this shop
Around Notre-Dame, there is "Album", they have 5 stores there
2 about european comic-books, 1 about US comic-books, 1 about cinema and 1 about manga & anime
I'm not really fond of them; their manga choice is good but their goodies are limited, as Meiou said (if he meant that shop)

They've been doing Japanese stuff for 20 years. I bought NewType magazine in Forbidden Planet in the mid 1980s. I couldn't read any Japanese but it looked really cool. It was like having a magazine published from an alien planet.

Most of the otaku shops in V-mall Greenhills are knock out version. I often make round monthly to check their contraband and stocks. SOme of the worst offenders are E-rats followed by the third floor shop in V-Mall kinda mix (50% Authentic - 50% Opposite)

Toronto isn't the best place for otaku goods, but there are a few places.
Downtown:
AnimeXtreme - Figures, Revoltech, Figma, Gunpla, manga, anime, etc...
Silver Snail - Gunpla, Revoltech, Figma (very few), manga, anime.
Kikiwai - mangas, art books, stuffed animals, soundtracks, posters, some toys and gunpla.
Other places downtown, like china town stores, have gone out of business recently.
Greater Toronto Area:
Pacific Mall (an asian mall), has a few stores where you can find quite a good deal of stuff.
Advanced Hobby
One's - Japanese goods like pencil cases, stuffed animals, pottery, books and toys.
Conventions bring in expensive goods.
These places are slow at getting stock though. So in Toronto, if you want the latest figures and such, it's better to go online.

If you're new to shopping for otaku goods, do not go to Pacific Mall. Most of the figures are bootlegs and you're better off ordering gunpla than buying from their stores. Hell the model stores' brushes still have the 200 yen stickers on them and they ask for 6 bucks.
As for the rest, I'll going around Toronto to check them all sometime next week.
As for me, I only buy gunpla supplies from Pacific Mall, everything else I order online.

There's no store that sells goodies like figures locally anymore (we had one, but it was in a weird part of town we've taken to calling the Bermuda Triangle, because businesses there will mysteriously disappear never to be seen again.) I also tend to either buy anime online in boxed sets or used for cheap, or pull a Jack Sparrow on it. ^^;

Otaku center in Brazil? No such thing.
I mean, there is one... but it's not in my city. 5 hour bus trip.
Here where I live, there's one small store that sells HQ, Manga and RPG stuff.
I don't go there very often because most of those I already order online with lower prices.
We do have some small japanese-culture events that happens very irregularly... only happened once this year, though last year we had more than 5 of them.
But lots of otaku gather there.

If you live in California you have to go to LA to get to any good anime/japanese shops, and they are way expensive.
http://girlg33k.blogspot.com/
For anime I usually go to Fry's Electronics, which is basically a warehouse for Best Buy. They have a great selection, and it's well priced. For manga I go to either my comic book shop (where I pre-order all the new stuff I read) or Barnes and Noble (where I tend to buy older books or 'back issues') because they have a great selection here. For figures I again go to my comic book stores where I buy what the have, or pre-order through Diamond.
If there's something I really want that I can't find at any of those places I order it online.
I live in the Dallas area, so there might be more specialty stores here. But I don't really drive around anywhere. I do know that there's a sort of poster store out here that also sells wall scrolls.

lol! didn't know they had anime at Fry's
http://girlg33k.blogspot.com/
The Fry's here has a huge DVD selection, and the anime section is almost a full shelf/aisle (one side). I try to go there first, because they have some of the older stuff, and usually what Best Buy won't have. Best Buy is probably better for newer shows though. But I think Best Buy and Fry's are owned by the same company, because Best Buy can access Fry's inventory, as they've sent me to Fry's for something before. Like I said, I think Fry's is sort of like a BB warehouse. Fry's is one of my favorite (and most dangerous) places to go.

The closest anime store in the middle of nowhere is about a half-hour away! Run by fellow gaijin, apparently. Awesome, should I ever have more disposable income.

it used to be the Smith Haven Mall and I-Con Convention near me here on Long Island...now I shop from me since I'm a dealer. Its very tempting to keep my own stock ^^; I've mainly saved the Yamashita figures and Haruhi Suzumiya figures as they come in.

I don't do a lot of shopping for stuff, but if I have to buy something I order it online.

I guess I can go to New York City, but I wouldn't know where to look.
I get animé from Best Buy (usually) and manga from Borders/Barnes & Noble. Anything else I either order online, or purchase at conventions. There is one store in the area (Outer Limits Rt. 46 E, Clifton, NJ) that sells Gundam models and other figures.

Okay, okay, other than that, Little Tokyo is probably the best place so far for me. For books, it's usually Kinokuniya, which luckily is near my place in both California and Oregon. There's also Asahiya Express which is closer to my university, so sometimes I go there for books. What's cool about that place is that there's a whole bunch of restaurants to eat at.
Recently I discovered Power Anime, which is located on the first floor of Westside Pavilion. It's a neat little place, but I haven't seen anything that I'd like to buy there just yet.

Anime - Best Buy
Manga - Books A Million, Barnes and Noble, Boarders.
Figures - only online! :(
Though I go to the book stores for manga, they really don't carry a good selection around here.

I live in WIS, and sadly there isn't a single anime/manga shop around here. Im speaking more along the terms of a store dedicated to it.

Buys figures at a local retailer here. Only around 9 train stations away, so near~~

The only things I can get locally are anime and manga at places like Best Buy and Books a Million. Anything else, like figures, I have to mail order.
Observer
I usually get my stuff in Conventions and sometimes in Goldcrest near Glorietta.
I've been to Greenhills many times but I usually have little money to buy anything there at the time. ^^;
???Confused???
Chinatown and Little Tokyo here and the Anime Expo once a year...
Nothing where I live. However, if you go to Sydney (4-5 hour drive) there's a lot of stuff there.

Nothing here too. India is as barren as a desert for finding any otaku related stuff.

The Japan Centre is in London's Piccadilly, and it has a great selection of Japanese food. Packs of House Curry were recently on special offer at just 99p each, so I bought a massive stash of them. Last weekend they also had a huge new selection of instant Miso soups, but the Pocky selection was a bit uninspiring.
It's also a bit sparse when it comes to otaku goods (e.g. figures etc.) though. Forbidden Planet has much more things of that ilk.

Erm, no good otaku stores in my country. Only one I can name is a bookshop (www.kriso.ee) from where I can order manga. Usually they have some more popular manga on the shelves too. And it is usually cheaper than ordering from USA or Japan.

I go to Little Tokyo or Japantown depending on if I'm in the Bay Area or down in Los Angeles. Convenient that there's Kinokuniya bookstores in those two places.

So sad that the biggest city in the U.S. has only one Kinokuniya. Although there doesn't seem to be "one" place to buy otaku goods, there's a fairly good amount of stores scattered around, and chances are that you'd have a store near you. I was pretty surprised when I was told that Anime Castle was moving out of Queens that their new location would literally be 10 min away from me.
Still do nearly all my shopping online, though. Covienient locations and open 24/7! I am also a cheapskate.

Otaku goods locations are really rare around here, but there are some shops in the mall that stock them. I remember there used to be a really good place nearby-SamGoody's-but unfortunately, the closed it down. The rest of my shopping has to be done on the net.

Buying brand new stuff can be a bit painful, especially from stores because to the retail price they add taxes, shipping and their profit costs.
I suggest to look online places like "Japan's Garage Sale" in livejournal; I sell stuff there too and you can find very good deals (I made Higurashi fans happy selling some figurines for real cheap, for instance)
