Folks planning to go to the up n coming Comiket will be pleased to know that you will have to wait in line even longer.

Since last month, there has been many Akiba style murder threats aimed at the next Comiket.
The planners have decided to do baggage checks on everybody entering Big Sight.
They state at the official announcement that they will confiscate any dangerous objects indefinitely and if one does not want to give up their dangerous object then they will be refused entry.

Unless they are going to have metal detectors (unlikely) and do body checks then I don't think this measure will help much.
Photo from my previous Comiket article.

If you are interested in reading about life in Japan, seeing photos taken daily around Tokyo, like Japanese subculture (anime, manga, figures, Dollfies) then you may want to start delving into the Japan or Figure categories for a start or have a gander at all photo articles.

If you don't have much time now, maybe subscribe to the RSS Feed, Twitter Feed or join the other readers in the FaceBook Page.
Alternatively, you may want to read more about the site.
If you are a regular reader then this message will probably annoy you each time - hide it forever.

really what's this world coming to, but still glad to see that they're doing something to prevent "bad" things from happening

Always wanted to go to a comic market at least once in my life, but seeing a line like this and being on the other side of the earth doesn't really help the situation. Seeing how they will confiscate dangerous looking objects, I guess people that cosplay in these events get their plastic/foam weapons taken from them?

On a side note, this pic could easily fit into a "find waldo" book.

Little point in checking for weapons at the door when a nutjob could stab aimlessly into the never ending crowd outside.

If security checks mean that there will be relative safety at C74, I wouldn't mind waiting a bit longer. Better that than having someone die. If you show up late, there's always a fair chance that vendors will run out of stock. This should act as initiative to get there even earlier.

I wonder if they'll let you stroll in if you have no bags. An "express" lane for these people would encourage everyone to leave their bags behind and make the organizers' life a whole lot easier.

That's a good idea, they could just check everyone who is carrying bags. Everyone else who aren't carrying bags can enter. They will get bags inside during the event anyway... (Of course I would prefer to carry a back-pack around rather then hold several bags...)
And for those who wish to bring in their bags must have their bag checked before entry.

This doesn't compute. Japan's birth rate isn't increasing and yet there's more and more people every year. Unless there's a revival in interest in Comiket, I can only surmise the increase is due to tourists (unlikely) or people like Kona-chan who got Kagamin and Tsukasa to help her buy stuff (more likely).

I'm guessing unless they come up with some grand scheme for that baggage check, some people won't be able to attend comike because of the lines.

I mean, they already are XBOX HUEG.

Maybe if they build a huge x-ray and metal detector... :P

no precaution is foolproof, if a person really has an intent to inflict hurt, no amount of safety measures can deter him/her. however, they do reduce the likelihood of such incidents occurring

They better do a good job. People who have the intention to harm people can find ways to hide their weapons. Security personnel usually check the pockets and bags. One can use this to his advantage and hide a knife on, let's say, his shoe which I have tried sometime ago (used my socks to hide pocket money in case I become a victim of hold-up).
