Figure Paint

Figure collectors will from time to time experience paint transfer - from garments or other accessories.
What I do is to take some thinner which I use for my Gundams and then dip in a cotton bud.
I then take the bud to the area where I want to remove the paint and after a few *soft* strokes, the offending paint is gone.
Please be extremely careful not to rub too hard (you should know this from your daily health care routine) as you risk rubbing off original paint too.
Here you can see some plastic gloves and Tomoe. I used the thinner to remove paint from the inside of her clothes which were causing paint transfer onto her skin.
Do you suffer the same problem with your figures?

I have a feeling you have tons of those gunpla paints thinner and tools lying around feeling neglected. ^^
anyway I find rubbing alcohol works as well. probably less efficient, but definitely smells better. ^^

I'd thought I'd include that bit since Danny left it out....you never know.

Could you apply something like a coat of silicon or some kind of acrylic spray to protect the body?

wah danny this is a dangerous way....
Any mistake ur will ruin the whole paint job.
For me if there is a bit of stain, i will use hobby knife, and gently scratch the stain off. Since those transfer paint arent stick really tight to the figure, it is always easy to remove.
???Confused???
Took you a while to get to this Danny any paint transfer since then?

Been having it more and more lately; so I only take the clothes of once or twice for kicks; clear up any paint damage, and put them on permanently after that

I read an article where you mentioned this before, Danny, but I forgot which one it was, so thank you for posting it again. I need it now, my GSC maid Hakufu is getting some paint transfer from her skirt. =/ It's also starting to lean, I'm still trying to figure out how to stop that one. >.<

My Light and L nendoroids have silver on the cuffs of the shirts from the handcuffs. I've been debating if I should bother trying to remove it. If I wait longer is removing the excessive paint more tricky/difficult? Is paint thinner preferable over rubbing alcohol? And is the paint thinner used a kind that I should only purchase from say a hobby shop?

I can't help but wonder... What paint is used on normal PVC figures from Alter, Max Factory and GSC? They seem to be excellent.
Anywyas, thankfully haven't come across this problem. Though I don't really like removing the skirts off my figures.

What a coincidence! I have unwanted paint (or I think it's ink) on the legs of my Lucy Misora figure. I will try thinner and see if it works! x_x

I use acrylic paint thinner to remove paint from my few PVC kits. Gets the job done and has the added bonus of being unreactive to other paints so I can rub as hard as I want.
For my resin kits, that's a whole other story. Solutions range from adding a layer of top coat to removing paint off specific areas to prevent it rubbing off on other areas.

I wonder if this trick would work on my LaserWave Binaltech. On his shoulder, some extra purple paint got spattered over the Decepticon symbol. It was already like that in the box, must have been a factory mishap. But since I already bought it and opened it, I didn't find out until after I transformed him. I think I can get the paint off, but I don't want to damage the paint on the Decepticon symbol. Would this cleaning tip really work?

Very useful. Though I may only have a few cast-off figures, this would prove very useful information when acquire other cast off figures. I've been using alcohol mainly to clean my figures, like someone I read in this thread. The good thing is you run less risk of rubbing off the paint than with thinner.

I find using a white eraser/ white sticky tac works as well, for gundams anyways...
But like thinner, you still have to be careful and not over do it, else you risk getting at the original colors

Out of curiosity, will Top Coat stop the paint from rubbing off as well?

Hey Danny, what paint and colour would you use to patch up Figma Yuki's hair? Mine is starting to chip due to her falling over and I really could use some advice.
Hello everyone. A question. I got a Mr. Color Thinner, and I am wondering if that can be used to remove paint transfer on a prepainted resin. it was a first for me, trying on the removable pieces caused paint transfer on an otherwise marvelous paint job. I am a little paranoid about thinning the original paint. Please help. Thank you in advance guys.

Gack! I just found out 4 of my cast-off figures are suffering from this problem. Does it have to be Mr Color Thinner or can it be any other model paint thinner?
