Because they are easy to make as no one needs new and interesting ideas for it, just more and more special effects. And for the new generations as they won't watch old films because the visuals suck and they can't bear it. But GitS's is still great the first case is more likely this time.

Hm, I thought, the GitS movie was awesome but my opinion changed after I saw Stand Alone Complex. The TV series have some interesting feeling which the movie doesn't it's just dark cyberpunk. All the characters are zombies in it, they don't show much emotion and all.
And the TV has Tachikomas. <3
But I'll watch the 2.0 for the effects.

Here's something I don't get... They revise classic movies all the time, right? I'd imagine if they took the audio tracks from classic movies and just animated over them, it would be a pretty bad ass way to make them relevant to future generations. I opt for classic scifi with bad special effects first personally. :P Sometimes the story was great, but the rubber suit just had to make you laugh... Does anyone else imagine an anime version of Blade Runner looking exactly like Ghost in the Shell?

Masamune is a big pervert, and I'm actually kind of glad of that. Even though Japanese studios really turned his characters into ultra serious movies and shows for the educated, you still have to love the fact that almost all of his female character designs are 1/2 nude. Masamune FTW!

I wish they would just leave well enough alone. Part of what makes GitS so amazing is what was done with animation technology at the time. to "update" with advanced CG (and to recreate scenes with said CG) just doesn't feel right.

At least the Eva movies are reimaginings of the series.
