Comic Market 74

Do you want to get into Comic Market 74 without waiting in the sweltering heat for hours n hours?
Otasuke reports that there are folks who are willing to line up for you for a total of 6 hours until 7.30am. This would mean that you could get in quite early when doors open at about 10am if you paid the 25,000 yen for these folks to line up for you.
Line-up-for-me tickets are available in Yahoo Auction.
Would you pay that money for somebody to line up for you?

I'd just stand in line myself. Half the fun is anticipating while waiting.

I agree! I would also bring necessary supplies to keep at least somewhat comfortable while waiting in line.

hell no, that extra money could be used to buy more stuff. what a waste to spend so much for a measly wait. I've been in worse situations than a six hour line under the sun. Just plan the whole day out and show up early.

I'd rather queue up myself, get chatting to some random people and enjoy the atmosphere!

Sounds like a nice way to make money though.. you could line up for yourself and for someone else.
Graphic Designer
Well wouldn't that be cutting in line then? You'd get a whole lot of angry comike fans if you just let someone come up and take your place...and then stay in line yourself.
Student/Freelance Programmer
Just 6 hours?
Anyway, couldn't you just get in the queue for yourself and the person who you're ripping off/doing a service to?
If they allowed it, I bet some people would be willing to queue for days before the actual date =_=~

Just get a wheel chair, mod it up so it's more comfy, and put a sign that says "Not actually cripple" I've never had reason to do this since I don't often stand in busy lines.

Thats over £100, I would not, I would suck it up and wait!!! With a portable games console of some sorts, or MP3, or other device. For this kind of event, its lame if you dont wait like all the other people.

I think it's cheaper to:
1. Make something yourself
2. Buy a "sell spot" at comiket
3. Only have 1x of the thing you've made
4. Buy it yourself
5. Enjoy walking around and buying every limited item you can find before anyone else is even inside
6. ???
7. PROFIT!

No no no...
1. Sell a Line-up-for-me ticket to comiket (half paid up-front to prevent no-shows)
2. Wait in line, saving the space for the guy who paid and for yourself.
3. Collect the poor soul's money (the other half at least)
4. Get into the comiket and buy figures with money you just received.
6. ???
7. PROFIT!!

That ruins the fun of attending the Comiket.. I would rather spend the money buying more stuffs at the Comiket than having to pay another person to line up for me.. Just come prepared before you arrive there and you will be fine..

I'd not pay for another to wait for me. I'd make an adventure out of it. Blog of it. Have fun! Create a (controlled and pleasant) event out of it. Of course I'd make sure to have friends with me to have a blast with.

Queuing is part of the fun! And spending 25,000 yen for that service is crazy, I rather spend that buying more anime merchandises. Being first in queue also doesn't mean that you could get everything you want, as the lines at the doujin circle booths builds up so very fast, thus prioritizing is still the key factor here.

Do you have to stand in line for hours just to get in, or to get in early?

Yep. I've been taking very first train ride at 4AM to get to Comiket and then I would arrive at Tokyo Big Sight around 6AM and then I would have to wait 4 hours there until Comiket opens at 10AM. And believe me, there are people already there before me because they stayed since the night before.
You have to stand in line for hours if you want to get in early. Show up around noon and you can pretty much walk right in. All the good stuff may be sold out by then though!
Typographer
http://www.vicfieger.com
Ah! Thank you very much!
Frankly, I wouldn't know what the "good stuff" is. I'm pretty sure I'd be more than content to just mill around and see what's available.

If you ever decide to go to Comiket, you should not aim to go there too early until you get used to Comiket. Come around noon, walk around and experience the event hands on and then perhaps next time you come again, try to aim for early-bird waiting ^^;

25,000 yen is a bit too much for such a service. I would rather just take the first train myself and use that money to buy more doujinshis myself. Normal doujinshi cost about 500 yen so that's like 50 doujinshis I can have for myself!

I'd probably be one of the people offering to wait in line if I lived there. 4167yen/hour sounds pretty good :)

Woah, 25,000 yen! Bah, I say. Bah!
I find these people as distasteful as scalpers. But as distasteful as I find it, these people do fill up a niche in the market : getting someone else to do the work for you. In a way, it's like going to auction sites to find one of those exclusive WonderFest figures, which I would admit I'm guilty of.
Singaporeans love to queue though. I still remember the silly Hello Kitty craze in 2000, where people started queuing up as early as 9pm for McDonalds to open the next day at 7am or so to buy a Hello Kitty plush toy. McDonalds sold them for about 400 yen each if you buy a meal set (burger + drink + fries). People resold them for ridiculous amounts of money. It's all very crazy.

No one loves to queue 6 hours, with a burning sun etc
For some 25.000 yen is so much money to pay, and prefer to stand dying 6 hours ( i will xD )

NO way, with that money I can buy a lot of goodies inside...I rather sleep over night myself on the pavement next to the entrance...!!!!!!!

A true fan would brave a mountain of ice and a sea of fire to get there. Paying for someone else to wait in your spot so you can take over when you get there after a good night's rest? Pff.

I have respect for those who can wait that long (but I wouldn't pay either, I'd try to do it myself)

Isn't this illegal or something?
Anyways, this weekend I stayed in line for the biggest anime convention in Brazil. But I was with a large group that are in a special line for people who came with buses from other cities, so it wasn't too long.
Took a couple of hours to get in, but all worth it. If it wasn't for the sun and having to stay standing up for a long time, staying in line would be one of the great things of the event... people get to know each other, make lots of noise, have fun, and you can spend some time taking pics of cosplayers too.

comiket is all about fighting through swathes of otaku, stompin ass along the way to claim limited editions of something. like a battle royale of sorts cuz morning exercise good for the soul
student
The hell with paying someone to wait in line for me. Comiket is about the building up anticipation leading up to the race against the other hopefuls to the entrance and getting the good stuff first, besides waiting in lines isn't so bad if you've got a way to keep yourself occupied and getting your mind off the wait-that's what makes it so exciting, giving up that exhileration+money over a little wait just isn't worth so thanks but no thanks.
