Japanese Love Hotels

Was reading up Neil's chronicles of how he went about getting an iPhone on the day of launch in Japan and lol'ed at the bit where he says...

After being refused entry at 3 Love Hotels because i was on my own and refusing the offer of no less than 20 ladies of the night for a little company i finally found the Hotel Machida Villa.

Due to Japanese housing having very thin walls and many folks living with their parents as a working salary man/office lady, its difficult to do hanky panky at home - thus Japan introduced Love Hotels.
Many Japanese men say "its only natural for a Japanese man to cheat on his partner" and I guess these love hotels enable them to take a break from work for an hour or two for hanky panky.

One can stay at a love hotel from an hour to however long it takes and I heard that some business men do stay at them over night when they miss the last train home. Maybe Neil got unlucky.

Are there love hotel facilities in your region?

If you are interested in reading about life in Japan, seeing photos taken daily around Tokyo, like Japanese subculture (anime, manga, figures, Dollfies) then you may want to start delving into the Japan or Figure categories for a start or have a gander at all photo articles.

    Don't they go on hourly rates as opposed to nightly rates? I would wonder if they equaled out to be the same price of a stay, or if one was cheaper... Hell, if it were cheaper to be seen entering kinky lodging all the time, then I'd probably take the risk of being scandalous. Otherwise, I wouldn't want to get anywhere near the beds in those places... o.o;;

They are clean and fun and well worth the money. I once met a girl whose birthday it was in a club at the bottom of Shibuya's Love Hotel Hill (yes it was Club Asia!) and about an hour after meeting her managed to convince her to go to one with me. Just one of my many cherished memories of these great, convenient, often weird, almost always wonderful places.

I,m pretty sure they wash the sheets since Japan is all "health-wise" now. I saw on the news that companies can be sued a certain amount for having obese workers. So business companies encourage their workers to use the stairs more and to jump and touch the door top part thing every time they go under one. Kinda health crazy if you ask me but since i already do the jump up and touch the roof/top door thing at school i don't find it too crazy.

They can be as cheap as 1200 yen for an hour, 3000 yen for 4 hrs and 7000 yen for 10 hrs ... depending on what area you are in too .... i've stayed in rooms in Kabukicho for 25,000 for 2 hrs.

No love Hotels here in Toronto. However, there was a trend a while back where people would rent out their own apartments/basement apartments for an hour or two so people could do their business. The ads were on classified ads sites like Craigslist or Kijiji (run by eBay).

Although I never went into one of those, but I do know there are lots of so-called 'love hotel' in town. There's one near my house too and yes, they have hourly rates. There is even one that so discreet that the hotel don't even have a lobby with the very small cashier box so nobody else know you there.

for those who might not understand the joke, there's a famous love hotel chain in the Philippines called victoria court. it features different themed rooms for each person's different fetish. if I'm not mistaken it's a bit similar to how love hotels are in Japan.

They need a refresher lesson on an Asian man's code of honor.

In Singapore there's this place called Hotel 81. Perhaps because of it's slightly seedy-sounding name (compared to the other higher-class ones), or it's location, it's turned into a catchphrase (at least amongst my friends) for a night o' hanky-panky.

I work at a hotel with a name similar to the one in the picture, Hotel Dolce Villa. The hotel where I work isn't a love hotel, though, it's a tiny 15 room Italian Style (located in the Italian Neighborhood) extended stay hotel. Not to say there isn't more than a bit of hanky panky going on, of course. Last week pedestrians called the police because they saw a couple doing the nasty on the balcony of one of our rooms >_< That was very shameful for us.

When I was in University there was a motel nearby that was named "The Moby Dick Motel" and advertized hourly rates starting at 36$USD for 2 hours.

Yep... lots of love hotels in Brazil.
They are called "Motels" here... dunno why. I do know in US Motels are Motor Hotels.
Usually located on city outskirts, some are very expensive and fancy, and they are usually enclosed behind tall walls.

Never been in one though. But some of the fancy ones has TV ads and stuff.
