Another Akiba Knife Incident

News just in. A man was arrested today for possessing a knife in Akihabara. As he was about to be put in the police car, he tried to escape by grabbing his knife back and cut the hand of one of the officers. His escape attempt was futile.
He was arrested not far from the slaughter spot two weeks ago. The man is currently in custody and remaining silent.

What has gotten into people as of lately :S...
If you want to stab someone there is always seppuku or something but why harm others?
simple, cos they got a warped mind.people who look like your average typical normal people who seems like they do not have a problem, but underneath they do.they keep on thinking about it to the point of obession and with no where to vent it out. When they see something that is weak or smaller than them they will unleash it all on whoever is unfortunate enough to cross their path to satisfy this undying thirst of obession.what's worse is they don't care who it is or what,so long as either you look weak or small they can be anyone..even you.

wow.... akihabara is getting bad these days...
now, now
is he brought knife on purpose for another mess?
or he just roaming around after buying a kitchen knife or such in akiba?
this dude should've not been panic tho, its meaningless arrest if he did innocent
he can even sue the police for unreasonable arrest

I dont think he can sue the police after assaulting one with a knife...

It's almost sad that the criminals have more rights the the peace officers. What part of "breaking the law" does the American justice system seem to not get?

Heheh! I can't help but chuckle at how you guys are totally destroying the typical stereotypes about people from Cali and people from Texas! That's awesome! If the two of you swapped responses, close-minded Americans might think, "that's exactly what I expect you to say!" (well, except for the "leaves US for good" part-- that's not stereotpical a Texan response)
Anyways-- me too! I will one day soon leave the U.S. and come back only to visit. None of this news is going to stop me from hanging out in Akiba!

If he didn't attack afterwards, he could sue.
But since he did attack, he will be sent to jail.
So close, but one mistake...

I believe that he cannot sue the police unless they had damaged something of his during the arrest or injured him in some way.
The police are simply doing their job, of course you would unarm him first and question him, why is he walking around with a knife.
Wasn't there recently a knife ban anyway??

Obviously he is guilty if he is trying to run away.

Exactly! That's dead give-away, and always sets the police into arrest-mode.

This seems very disturbing.. with knives and all.

My guess is that all the coverage is bringing out copy-cats who want to try, as well. The increased police presence only offers them a more enticing challenge--"How far can I get before they stop me?" They know if they succeed, they'll be on all the TV news programs and specials around the world, too.

I doubt they're killing just to be on TV etc... They're doing it for the thrill.
I just hope that man wasn't planning to do something like what happened 2 weeks ago.

I honestly think it may be for the attention. Otherwise, why Akihabara, near the scene of the previous killings? A thrill kill could be done anywhere, in any crowd. That particular spot, however, is now well-known. What better way to get your name out?
Regardless, I'm glad nothing serious happened.

Yeah, i agreed with you. Physchologist has claimed that these kind of people want to get attention from the public. But hurting someone else is not the right way!
By the way, why some of the otaku have became so sick recently?

Bleh~ Some people don't know how to remain calm, cool and collective. If he had genuine reason to be carrying a knife then there was nothing to worry about, however, if the situation was arrest worthy then he was just making it worse for himself by attacking the officer.

SERIOUSLY! Danny's childhood was MUCH worse than Kato's. At least Kato lived with his own parents in his own home, yet his family life growing up is what he cited as his reasons for mass-murder.

eh.. What's the current law on knives / weapons in Japan? Are you not allowed to carry any forms of knives including mini Swiss army knives with you when you're out? Enlighten me someone.
Maybe the guy just panicked and didn't want a police record.

If he just panicked I dont think he would have gone for the knife he had with him when he tried to escape. If he was innocent he most likely would have just tried to run away.

I swear,if these events causes the 3rd season of "Higurashi no Naku Koro ni" to be cancelled, I'll be off to Akihabara to stab a few of these bastards. Yeah.

He's obviously guilty from the start. If he's truly innocent, he would have cooperated with the police to clear his name. Only a guilty person afraid of the police uncovering dirt on him would attempt to escape, resist arrest or, even worse, attack the police.
The Japanese police isn't some third-world garbage armed thugs, where corruption is rampant and confessions are extracted through beatings and torture.

Is it now just crimt to carry around knife in Japan? Even so, I don't know why they would carry around such a thing in Akihabara after what happened two weeks ago, it seems like a bad idea from the start.

Does this really make anyone feel safer? If anything it's just showing that there ARE people carrying knives around. I'm sure that if they put this type of law enforcement/searching ANYWHERE in Tokyo they would find people carrying knives. A gang member or something with a knife isn't necessarily going to just start stabbing random people, but he'll still carry the knife. I doubt this guy put the knife in his pocket and specifically went to Akiba...
Doesn't seem to me like increased finding of knives = increased carrying/usage of knives. I mean, I know that there have been more stabbings as of late, but that doesn't mean that anyone with a knife = senseless killer. Shrug...

More focus on the media before it dies out and goes onto another incident? But still it is pretty annoying at how many "violent" people go around with knives while others just go around to protect themselves. You sure find out a lot though when the media does focus a lot on similar events 0_o.

Perhaps Japan has reached some sort of societal nervous breakdown and a lot of people are snapping and going crazy or there must be some sort of ghost-in-the-shell-like conspiracy going on. Either way, a lot of crazies are crawling out of the woodwork.

Problem with this is that the word "knife" and "akiba" immediately makes people remember of the tragic incident... but the truth is, the guy must've panicked and assaulted the officer with a knife.
It's still bad, but nothing close to the other case. Happens a lot... people reacting badly towards police officers.
But no questions... the guy goes to enjoy some time in jail. Even more because he pulled a knife.
