Hijacked from Bell who asks "What is the longest volume of manga you ever collected????"
For me I think it was Ranma - cant remember how many but there must have been at least 24. I collected Inuyasha up to about 20 and then dropped it - not sure why.
Do you prefer Manga to end or go on forever?
BTW, I'm thinking of picking up Claymore - how good is it? Loved the anime.
Also, do you prefer to read manga online or buy from the bookstore? I'm guessing some of us have no choice but to read online due to availability?

Original text from Bello below.

What is the longest volume of manga you ever collected????
The longest volume of manga i collected is dragonball which has 42 volume excluding other stand alone issue.

Have you read any manga that took the longest time to publish a volume???

For me, the longest wait for a volume is Bastard!! , follow by Guyver then Hunter X Hunter and lastly Ah! My Goddess.

Till now the above mention manga is still on going and who knows when it will end the story. with Guyver started publish in 1985, Ah! My Goddess and Bastard!! in 1988 for more then 20 years and Hunter X Hunter in 1998 for more then 10 years.
Seems like a forever wait to finish the above mention series.

Berserk, though I still have to get the latest volumes.

I wonder how many volumes of Hajime no Ippo have been released so far. I wouldn't be surprised if there are more than 40 volumes.

The longest I have is Rurouni Kenshin at 28 volumes, followed by Negima at 18 but that one is still ongoing. Yes Danny, go pick up the Claymore manga, and get rid of that bad after taste might have gotten from the anime ending. I prefer reading manga I buy from a bookstore, but for something like Bleach and other Shonen Jump stuff and mangas that have translations?editing I dislike I go online.

I prefer manga to have a ending, be it good or bad. the least it is a complete story, and also the whole series can be pass on to other people to read. in a way it is sharing plus recycling plus i get more free up space in my room. i buy less n less manga nowadays as there are book stores that you can rent it home to read.

I'm not much into mangas... mainly because you get much crap from editors here in Brazil (discontinued series, long waiting times, etc).
But I guess I'm with Bello... longest volume I have is probably Dragonball too.
Not shure though. It would be Ranma if the freaking editors didn't drop it on number 23.
I also have lots of Blade of the Immortal, Kenshin, One Piece and.... Vagabond, I guess.
Currently, I'm importing Yotsuba and Nininga Shinobuden from the US via Amazon.
Oh, and Robot Color Comic if it can be considered manga.
In Brazil, I'm buying Hunter x Hunter, Dragonball (yeah, they're still ongoing here) and planning on starting Battle Royale.

Didn't like much the ending, but I'd recommend Dragon Head... the only imported manga I have complete. 10 volumes if I'm not mistaken.

    I like my stories to end...less chance of jumping the shark ^^;

    And for long delays... Yoshiyuki Sadamoto's Evangelion. Started in 1994 and as far as I know, still waiting for volume 12 ^^;;

The longest that I can remember collecting are Naruto (ongoing), RurouKen and Saint Seiya (28 volumes), and Hokuto no Ken (27 volumes). I used to collect Bastard! and The Guyver, but they took so long between volumes that I lost interest.

As for Claymore, if you liked the anime, then you'll probably love the manga. The first few story arcs are pretty much exactly the same between the two. However, they rushed and changed the ending of the anime to fit the season length. The manga has a much better "War in the North" story arc than the anime did. I'm currently collecting that, as well.

All of the series that Bello has mentioned are classics.

My largest? Ummm. Since I don't have them with me I am guestimating that the largest volume of manga for a particular series that I've collected would be Get Backers. (39'ish?) I was truly fortunate to get a majority of it from BookOffs in Ebisu, Akiba, and the their big store in LA sometime ago. Purchasing new manga really eats up your wallet :/

Eventually, I will have big contenders such as Beck or One Piece charging in the lead within a few months.

But to answer your question, Danny, the best part is going to a Manga cafe and reading to your heart's content with limited interruption coupled with unlimited drinks and ice cream! :D

Manga's always better if there's a definitive ending. Series that just continue to get milked for the sake of being milked just crash and burn.

I suppose One Piece would be the longest I've read so far. I buy the books if it's a really good series.

Girls Bravo. That's an amazing 10 volumes!!

I try not to buy really long manga series (example would be Bleach or something that goes over 12-ish volumes) since they cost so much & I can either read them online, library, or borrow them from my friends unless I really want to (I have a feeling I'll be buying a lot of Gintama volumes...)

My longest manga collection would be 3x3 Eyes. Could have been DBZ but i didn't have the pocket money back then to keep up with the issues.

Don't think i'll get any long going manga due to space constraints but what I currently am collecting is Yotsuba&!

Case Closed/Detective Conan, which spans 60, and is still healthy... I am surprised how many people died in Conan... and the different ways one can kill people... honestly, pretty scary once you think about it...

I don't know what the longest series of Manga I have...I have tons and tons so I can't think of it right now. The longest series I have mangas of is the most recent volume of Golgo 13, which is 168 I think...but sadly it's the only volume of Golgo 13.

I buy all of my manga from my local Kinokuniya (in Japanese), I'm a purist ;)

If the series is one that I am fond of (both art and story wise), then I'll keep collecting it.

Don't really consider myself collector since I download everything. But longest would be Naruto.

About Claymore, I loved the anime and love the manga (which I read after seeing the anime). Maybe the manga got a bit boringish after where the anime ended, will have to check some time soon if theres new chapters out. But in general manga is better anyway.

City Hunter (Hong Kong edition) - 35 volumes is the longest collection I have. Next would be Lone Wolf & Cub - 28 volumes. Other big ones include GTO (25 vols), Death Note (12 vols) and I"s (15 vols), etc. etc. I'm running out of shelves for my "real" manga collection. :(

On my "Sparda" portable HDD, I have over 25 Gigs of virtual manga collected, big series on there include Captain Tsubasa (37 vols), GANTZ (24+ vols ongoing), 20th Century Boys (22 vols), and Shin Angyo Onshi (17+ vols).

I got Oh! My Goddess til volume 30 or something. Though Hilde looks to be an interesting character, I did not appreciate the manga-ka's evolving artstyle and story-telling style.

I got Bastards!! til volume 18 or so. The art style improved lots, but the story become too convoluted and I lost interest.

The only manga-ka's works that I've collected and finished is Kia Asamiya, starting with Silent Mobius, Compiler/Assembler, Nadesico to Dark Angel (though the translated manga seems to stop halfway). I think there's something about a series that has clean and detailed artstyle (kinda like Oh Great's), a story that's not too complex (sorry, 3x3 Eyes, I have no idea what the hell is going on) and not too long (say, around 12 volumes or so). Some manga come so slowly I have the feeling the manga-ka will die before he finishes the series (Robert Jordan, I'm looking at your Wheel of Time series).

I am proud to announce that no one else (probably) has gotten the latest volumes of Pokemon Adventures/Special. Not that it does me any good...

The longest wait is probably for World Embryo and FMP Sigma to be released in my country; I have no idea why translation of those titles seemed to have all but vanished. On the other hand, To-Love-Ru comes right on time. ^_^

Number of volumes would have to be Rurouni Kenshin, at 28 total volumes which I have bought and read. However, I've been reading Hunter X Hunter for 5 years (I only started reading manga about 6 years ago). I think Trigun/Maximum is probably another one I've been reading for 4-5 years.

Of course, course, when I think about it, I've read every released chapter of Bleach, Naruto, and (until I gave up two weeks ago) One Piece.

Well so far the most volumes I've got of a series is 18, for Fruits Basket and the complete Fushigi Yugi(not Genbu Kaiden included). Negima and Tsubasa are bother catching up though, and 16 and 15 volumes long so far(that I have lol) I'm not dropping any of them. Couldn't do that.

There's still a few books I'm missing but it's the longest series I've collected books for since Sailor Moon. XXXHolic is at a close second (why is it taking so long to translate vol. 12??).

I don't understand why so much manga keeps going and going. Yet alone why people keep reading and buying. I think it's either poorly written or the author selling out over and over.

I think it would be nice if an author clearly stated their intended number of volumes. I would think the series would be well thought out and not have a rushed ending this way. Not to mention I might actually consider it worth my time seeing an ending in sight.

Wow! I didn't know there were 25 volumes of Guyver. I have the first 7 from back in the 90s, but never saw any others. I guess I will have to try to find them.
Longest manga would have to be Death Note (At 13) but I got that all in one shot. Others go to the Evangelion manga, and Full Metal Panic. I have yet to get any of the longer series (Bleach, InuYasha, Ranma) but I should.

I have tons of other long series of manga such as Ippo, Inuyasha(ended this week by the way), and Rokudenashi Blues.)

    I absolutely recommend Claymore!
Only thing I hate about that manga is that it's monthly..dammit.

I prefer to buy manga from bookstore.
