Hijacked from Mel and thanks to Nya Chama for mentioning it earlier on too.
Firefox are trying to set a world record for the amount of downloads in a single day. I dont quite get this because Microsoft can beat this anytime by forcing updates to Windows XP no? I hate the way they force my applications to close and shut down my Windows machine just to install updates. Does Vista do that too?

Anyway, if you don't know what the fuss is about regarding Firefox, do give it a whirl by downloading it. You can add a load of functionality to Firefox which enhances the browsing experience. There are also many bugs in IE6/7 which prevent the user from seeing websites as designers intended. I have disabled some of the layout features in IE because Microsoft decided to set their own standards instead of following the W3C.

Another great thing about FF is that it checks your spelling when typing in a text field - my spelling is terrible so it helps *a lot*.

The image in this post is a screenshot of Firefox running and you can see some of my addons in the bottom right corner which are the Alexa Toolbar which enables you to see the traffic rank of any website and thus judge roughly how popular it is. You also support dannychoo.com if you use the Alexa toolbar too (find out why).

I also use Screen Grab which enables you to take screenshots of long webpages.

Could not live without the Developer Toolbar which is an incredible suite of tools for web developers.

And why do my Firefox extensions all work in Firefox 3? Because I use the Nightly Tester Tools which force just about any extension to work with any version of Firefox - all working perfectly for me. When I upgraded to FF3, I got the incompatibility complaint but a click on the "make all compatible" fixed everything.

Original text from Mel below.

As many of you may know today marks Download day for Firefox 3!

This good and useful piece of software just got a little better. :-)

One feature I miss from other browsers is the ability to open plain text URLs like real hyperlinks. Yes, there are add-ons for this but it would be nice if FF could do this without installing one. Oh..and I loved how I could add search fields of any website to the browsers search engines when using Opera.

All in all it's not the fastest browser I've tried but it's a whole lot faster and uses less RAM than FF2. On my computer Opera and Safari were a little faster, the difference in terms of speed hardly matters though. On the other hand these browsers don't have FF's large collection of add-ons.

To be honest I've never understood all the hype about Firefox. Yeah, it's a whole lot better than IE and it has a few features IE lacks but you could say this about pretty much all modern browsers.

As for the world record: It's not that hard to break it because as of yet there is none. Of course a lot of things have been downloaded a lot of times but there are quite a few formalities to take care of (to proof things etc). Otherwise your record won't be accepted and added to the Guinness Book.

Installed FF3 today... not much difference since I was using beta versions already, maybe a tad faster and some minor changes that I noticed.

But anyway, FF is the browser for me, tried Safari but prefer FF and wouldn't even consider IE even when using Windows (wouldn't even consider using Windows if not occasionally forced to ^^ )

Mmm... I've been waiting for this. I got it this morning as well, and I love it. Too bad the theme I used doesn't work (yet), but all the other new features were well worth the wait.
    FF = <3

Wow, I'm really really impressed with FF, the internet is running so much smoother and faster ... even the gif files are running smooth as hell.

a lot of my addons don't work but this version of firefox sure is a lot faster so I'll stick with this one. I'll wait for the addon makers to catch up with 3.0

Hmmm.. Will have to do this to the laptop tonight, when I have a little time. I use SeaMonkey for the desktop, FireFox and Thunderbird on the lappy. I have never gotten the Nightly Tester Tools to work, though. I installed them, and never got it working. Which is sad. I miss some of those old styles (Black Japan was a nice look)

Yeah, Fx 3 looks great on a mac. On Windows it has ugly buttons. :/

I'm now using 8 extensions right now. 1Password (password manager), Add Bookmark Here ( Add bookmarks directly in toolbar, Firebug ( debug html, css etc ), Firegestures (mouse gestures like Opera), Menu Editor ( customize menu ), SEO for Firefox ( lookup Alexa and pagerank), Tab Mix Plus (customize tab behaviour), Web developer ( some handy html tools ) . :P

I think that Firebug is actually better than the Developer Toolbar that Danny recommends, it's a great tool!
I'll check out the Firegestures, thanks for the tip! ^^
