The ones that you see highlighted in this screencap are idiots who were waving and grinning at the live broadcast after the killings.
The folks at 2chan have put the following 'wanted' video of the shamless fools.
Via Japan Probe where you can see another pic of some git doing the "V "sign during the report. What would you do if you spotted one of these idiots one day?

If you are interested in reading about life in Japan, seeing photos taken daily around Tokyo, like Japanese subculture (anime, manga, figures, Dollfies) then you may want to start delving into the Japan or Figure categories for a start or have a gander at all photo articles.

If I'm not wrong, being absolutely stupid is not a crime (maybe it should, but it's not).
They did not good, but they can do whatever they want.
And I think that this 2ch is doing can really be a crime, I don't know who is more idiot the one who is insensitive about a crime or the people who don't understand this kind of things have to happen and think it's more important than the crime itself.
      Btw, 2ch giving moral lessons?

Shouldn't the reporter be taking up the camera space? Why is the camera-man shooting all those bystanders behind the reporter?

Once you give an opportunity of instant fame in a broadcast to millions, it's an invitation to otherwise ordinary people leading boring ordinary lives to come over and start doing stupid things. It's like "Look, ma, I'm on TV!"

I can't blame those people flocking over to the camera for their 5 seconds of TV fame.

At a crime scene, you typically want to pan back from the reporter so that you can get some of the background in the shot. It's good for ratings (as sick as that may sound) to show the scene of the crime.

"What would you do if you spotted one of these idiots one day?"

I'd ignore them. Quite frankly, that's what everyone should do, in my opinion.

Otaku culture is now under the scrutiny of the media, government, and general public. They're looking for excuses to call us dangerous or unstable. And what do we do? We give them a "Wanted" video.

While I agree with the posters of the vid that those glory hounds were scum, I don't think the video helps the otaku cause, right now. It's simply more fuel for the media's propaganda machine.

Otakus actually have a pretty bad image in Japan for quite awhile. The term otaku was used as a derogative term, until the media began to portray otaku in a more positive light recently.

It mostly started in 1989 when someone by the name of Tsutomu Miyazaki mutilated and murdered 4 little girls aged between four to seven. Horror and panic broke out in Japan against otaku culture when his crimes came to light and the media called him the Otaku Murderer.

Otakus haven't really been redeeming their image since. The negative image the otakus get stuck with do have some truth in them, so I'm not sure what kind of clear image you want to show to the Japanese authorities.

That is so true. Otaku has a negative connotation, just like the word "freak" or "geek" have negative connotations in America. It doesn't always mean anime freaks though, so i would consider it wrong to feel personally victimized by it.

And honestly, the public should feel bad for the victims and shed more apathy for the otaku community. If a crime like this caused more hatred, then people are indeed shallow and generalizing.

I remember there's 1 recent anime(forgotten the title) featured an episode of an oldman who seek vengence among these idiots bystander who pose "V" sign behind the reporter during the accident interview which caused death to his wife & paralyze his daughter. The left-alone oldman then huntdown those idiots & murder them, then he refix the victim finger to "V" sign.

Hell, people wake up as early as 5:00 in the morning to be on the morning news (Forget what station but it's a big news show).

Did someone consider that they might actually not know what was happening at the time?

Look, I don't like attention whores and douchebags just like the next guy, but it's possible that they were passing by at the time not knowing what was really happening.

Also, showing their faces on the Internet saying that people should go after them is not a clever thing to do... it's almost as "douchey" as their actions.

Dunno how things go in Japan, but I know that, depending on where the story ends up, at least here in Brazil and the US, things can get REALLY REALLY bad to these guys.

And some of them might even be insensitive and stupid by waving their hands at the cameras... but the best thing would be to ignore them. If it's attention they wanted, we're just handing it to them this way...

Lynching someone cuz he's an idiot doesn't make one a person of justice, it just bring one down to his level. Mob mentality really shouldn't have a place in the modern world. =/

a lot of the highlighted people in those pics only look like they're curious rather than being idiots.

Wow... just wow. I'm surprised that a person whith the intelligence of a ashtray would praise that nutcase and earn themselves their 15 minutes of shame on the telly.

Some people can be too damn uncivilized these days. :/

I would look away from the guy and walk on. I mean, it's his life so it's his bussiness. It only means that he's stupid and not worth of my attention.

I think these guys are funny, the fact is that Press and Media are super happy for this akihabara event, they have more rating and more excuses to mock about otakus, taking things too serious is even worse, they start to spread fear and crap, and the only who get more represion are otakus

them having this much exposure is giving them what they want. i say, ignore them and move on, idiots don't need to become famous, even if famous as idiots.

They just want to be in a live t.v. I guess its human nature to wave at the camera or smile at it when you see it. Some people are shy at the camera. Like me, I can't smile in front of the camera not unless I'm drunk ^_^

How about you? Can you smile in front of the camera while they take your picture?
