IMO the anime was so-so, however the reason I got into BRS in the first place was due to huke's awesome character design....so the disappointment in the anime department isn't going to majorly affect my liking towards the BRS series :)

I am super stoked to be getting the BRS Figma (thx Danny and Kid Nemo!)

But after watching the anime, I feel the need to having to buy the Dead Master figma, as I think it would be absolute criminal to have just one and not the other. They definitely need to be sold as a pair !

I went into the anime not expecting a lot, but I was pleasantly surprised. It's not as good as it could have been with a real movie or series behind it, but it was certainly enjoyable. And, honestly, that's all I really want out of my anime.

Having said that, seeing that I'm broke and can't buy any of these makes me sad... perhaps I should turn to a life of crime in order to support the habit.

The anime was MA MA because I found it werid that the gals suddenly became these people with super power, no origin, and etc. But mannnn the fight scenes were A++++ and voice acting was also A++++. I smell an Anime around the corner!

I liked the OVA, but it lost a few points for not fully bringing things full circle (what's the other world, who was Black Gold Saw, etc...), thus leaving me in despair!

"Despair" - oh contrair..I think it means more OVA's...eventually...or maybe even a full anime. *spoiler* Strength is the one that made such a brief appearance, Black Gold Saw does not.
      http://blackrockshooter.wikia.com/wiki/Strength

Yes lots to the story unexplained but it was a lot different from what I expected...way more compelling story. They did a great job and did a pretty much lived up to all the hype...I think.

I know the ending left it open for a sequel, but it leaves me anxious for more >_<

Of course, Strength is clearly tied to the volleyball coach [(?) fuzzy memory hehe ^_^;;]. Which left me wondering just who was Black Gold Saw?

I need to re-watch it. I see the character designs for Dead Master and Black Gold Saw are kind of similar I may have missed something. *spoiler* Strength is tied to the *basketball* coach Yuu and of course the girls interesting 3-way relations too.

Considering the hype BRS built for over a year, I was expecting it to be epic..

but it was only a 50 minute OVA, I knew some of the plot would be missed out or the time would be too short to squeeze in a superb story...
Quick browsing to some reviews, there are some people who weren't satisfied..

Anyways, I hope to watch it already.. ^

"BRS" clearly offers an above average experience. The quality of animation is pleasing and interesting. And the concept of the story is fine. But I was disappointed with my experience because I was hoping for a very different story. The problem with BRS is that it is about the friendship, jealousy, and hurt feelings of normal teens. But the otherworldly aspect of the Huke world suggested greater possibilities. I understand that the protagonists are skinny little girls. Still, the post-apocalyptic fantastical design of the Huke world should have offered a grander story. It was a missed opportunity, which may harm the future potential of the title. I liked the relationship between Black Rock Shooter and Dead Master. That dynamic was lovely and well done. But that dynamic should have been set on a grander setting.

I'm disappointed, but I recognize that "BRS" is a piece of quality animation. I'll buy the three Figmas, but that is all the money Huke will earn from me.

    ;)

          Yes, I did figure out the name of the character. ^^;

But I could not find the source artwork, which this detail was cut out of. I really like how her hair seems to have been blown up and back by wind and how her face seems to be lit by harsh light.

I want the BRS puppet more! However if I can't get it then anything else from the BRS series.
Other than that, I enjoyed the narrative and animation of BRS. I don't understand why people would dislike it as much as they do, maybe the constant cuts from school life to the other world? I think it's a show with some nice imagery blended into the narrative.

It's called expectations. My guess is that if you watched the animation without knowing anything about the BRS franchise, then you likely would have thought it a nice show, but not something special beyond the beautiful otherworld sequences. But if you knew soemthing about it--and likely you did--then you were likely hoping for a grand fantasy epic, even if you did not think this likely.

The non-linear narrative should not bother the modern audiences of video storytelling. And there is nothing inherently wrong with the story. The problem simply is that the Huke artwork inherently holds high potential for a grander narrative. The massive chains. The ridiculous weapons and beautiful, if macabre, character designs. The barren, otherworldly settings. The enigmatic checkered walls. The grainy texture of the images, with occasional flourishes of saturated color. The nature of the artwork suggested that it should have been used on something grand, not something small and intimate.

The anime, however, was not intended to meet those expectations. Instead, "BRS" is nothing more than another high school teen story--threatening to go emo--with a gimmicky premise, in which conflicts in the friendships of young girls are settled with flashy looking--but non-mortal--combat set in a supernatural world. If you were going to tell this story, then why waste the artwork on this? Why go the extra mile to hype up the title? While it is true that disappointment occurs only when expectations are not met and even if these expectations were not rational or justified, the BRS enterprise deserves any backlash against it because the animation product did not really warrant the level of marketing hype. But this is true of any enterprise, which is pushed by hype and not substance.

Nevertheless, I do recognize that, on its own merits, it was well made.

      :)

I must admit that I was a bit dissappointed with the anime, but the character designs and figures are still golden. ^^

Rather then leave a comment on every picture I'll just say this... IT'S ALL MINE! I can't pinpoint my favourite thing about the anime, but if I had to name something off the top of my head I'd say the art style.

I'm curious, which figure set do you think is better - the original art version or the animation version? I've decided if I'm going to collect the figures I should only go for one set since I'm on a limited budget but I just can't decide which I like more.

The Original verisons of BRS and DM are beaitifully painted and I like the details, especially the hair and eyes but the Animeation versions have such stunning movement to them, I really like the way the chains fly out around them and the way their hair and clothing blows around. It's so hard to decide. What do you think?

BRS animation version is so much more awesome! I'd go with animation version for BRS.

For DM, I wouldn't buy either one. The only statue of DM that looks awesome I have seen is this one by Kiking:
      http://tomopop.com/kiking-updates-gk-dead-master-i-d-probably-kill-someone-to-get-this-13280.phtml

For BGS, I am only aware of the one shown in pictures above. She's beautiful.

Forget the Kiking. My bad. Looks like availability is severely limited. :(

For DM, go with the animation version. I think the original one looks a bit odd. But that's just me. :p
