The new K-ON! member has been confirmed - in the minds of some K-ON! fans across the otakusphere.
Originally started as a thread covered by Yunakiti which asks folks to come up with a Kakifly style illustration - then asking them to print it out and take a photo with a mobile phone to make it look like the new manga edition.
Looked like quite a few folks were fooled ^^;

After playing one for 6 years during my school days, I can confirm that this is a Euphonium horn, also known as a baritone horn. Tonal range is the same as a Trombone, but the sound is soft and subdued like French Horn. It is my favorite brass sound in the world, but I might be biased ;)

there is a difference between and a Baritone and a Euphonium horn. Baritones has a smaller bell like a trombone and sounds brighter like a Trombone while the Euphonium has a darker tone. its complicated but that's how it is ^_^; sorry my bandness showed itself...

Was quite a shock to see the buzz on Twitter and Japanator about this last Friday, though looking at the first images quickly realized it was a hoax or fan creation. Nonetheless, visually Akane is pretty cute. ^^

I think the character design is very believable, but it's just that K-ON is one of those series that doesn't really have over the top colours for hair it's more realistic so the pink really looked out of place,

I am glad it was a prank, because I could've not stand K-On! if tuba-girl was there.
The problem I see is that it's completely credible to think KyoAni would pull this kind of crap (if not the mangaka herself) just to make things even more moe and marketable. Not hard to fall onto this kind of thing if you think of it that way (the full shot with her holding the tuba was a trace of Yui, so I guess that was a obvious hint).
