Early Years 1990

About 20 years ago back in London where there were no Internets. My passion back then was a singer/actress called Kylie Minogue ( http://www.kylie.com/home )

My choice of apparel back then was jeans - the jacket was made up of ripped jeans too. Also wore studded belts with huge eagle buckles. You cant really notice them but I used to also wear chains around the waist too ^^;
The holes in the photos are there because we kept our pics in our PDA's (Filofax) back then ^^; At this moment in time I hadn't found what I wanted to do in life yet. Then I discovered Japanese culture and knew that I wanted to live and work in Japan. Back then without a job or information like the Internets, it felt much like saying "I want to travel to the Pluto."

Photo from comrade Martin who found me through FaceBook. Owe a lot to Facebook for helping me get in touch with so many people who I lost contact with over the years.

Early Years 1990

More pics of me and Kylie (and her younger sister Danni) in the Kylie Minogue photo article.

If you are interested in reading about life in Japan, seeing photos taken daily around Tokyo, like Japanese Pop Culture (anime, manga, figures, Dollfies) then you may want to start delving into the Japan or Japanese Pop Culture category for a start or have a gander at all photo articles.

If you don't have much time now, maybe subscribe to the RSS Feed, Twitter Feed or join the other readers in the FaceBook Page.
Alternatively, you may want to read more about the site.

Former Website Manager for Amazon and Product Manager at Microsoft, Danny Choo has been bringing Japanese pop culture to the world through web, TV and conferences worldwide and has been featured on TV networks such as CNN, BBC, NHK, G4TV and LCI. See all media coverage in Danny's profile.

If you are a regular reader then this message will probably annoy you each time - hide it forever.

      Someone should cosplay young Danny. hahahah. that would be so epic. XD I wonder what your life would be now had you stayed and followed Kylie and not Japan. lol

    Ah the 90s, the most awkward decade of my life... seeing as how I essentially grew up in that decade. The early nineties was kinda blah. After 1994, things got better.

    Looking into the past is cool. Danny looks so... himself, but just younger with big glasses. His smile never changes in all the pictures I've seen of him. The only thing I did in 1990 is become another human in this world, aka being born.

    Danny, the days before the Internet was strange if I really think about it. I can see how a lot of people could only get info from like family through mail, or if urgent phone.

        Yeah but the 70's was the 70's. There were loads of great things in the 70's...

        There were Civil Rights to some, Led Zeppelin, The Who, Abba, Starwars, Video Games, The Twin Towers, LAva Lamps, The "Moon Landing" (The more I see the photo the more sure I am it's staged), Disco, Vietnam, A Recession, An Oil Shortage.... Nixon...

        Yeah I you're right, the 70's sucked ass..

    Ahh the 90's. I grew up in that decade and I miss it a lot. I watched basically all the anime that formed my otaku foundation in that decade. I still remember watching Endless Waltz and End of Evangelion on VHS.

    Recently I've been listening to 90's music out of nostalgia: REM, RATM, Nirvana, Oasis, The Cranberries, Paula Cole, Alison Krauss, Garbage, Goo goo dolls, Radiohead, Lighthouse family, Savage Garden, Sixpence none the richer, Soundgarden, Alanis Morissette, Sting and so on. I even grew to like Bryan Adams, Bruce Springsteen, The Spice Girls (YES, you read it right, THE SPICE GIRLS), Boyzone (Again, B O Y Z O N E..>:-D), and some others. In fact, as I'm typing this I'm listening to Blackhole Sun by Soundgarden.

    ABSOLUTELY NO OFFENSE INTENDED: But this just came to my mind, had Danny gone into Akiba in some of those clothes now, he would have blended it perfectly with most of the otakus on the "geeky" side. lol

    (If it makes you feel any better, I used to dress worse than that back when I was a young brat. XD )

    Of course, we like Danny better the way he is now, on the "otacool" side. ^^;

    It's good to know someone around my age has the same nutty interests. I didn't do the denim look, but I did rock the metal chain on the hip (attached to my keys) and a flat top fade. I'm gonna burn all my '90's pics.
