We don't get enough Japanese food around where I live. Only the types of food that are more popular in Europe like Sushi and Tempura. And sometimes you'll spot the occasional Sashimi plate as well.

No Japanese restaurants in the neighborhood though, otherwise I'd go raid them in about whenever it is they open their doors thanks to this post. ^_^

My friend's family actually owns and runs a Japanese restaurant here in uptown Minneapolis. I used to work there with him as a chef for a short while. Good times, and the best part, free food! Love it there! They just moved into a larger place and they're doing habachi too!

This is my favorite dish so far. There is a place in Adelaide's cbd that does this served with a bit more rice than you see here as well as wasabi and mayonaise.

We have some of the most awesome Asian food in the US, we just about invented Asian fusion cuisine, and in some respects we took over for the cuisine capital of the West Coast from San Francisco a while ago.

Ask a Korean where some of the best Korean food is, and they'll say LA. Ask a Thai where the best Thai food is, and again, they'll point our way.

Actually this weekend's going to be one of geeking out, eating Asian nom noms and living the Otaku in LA lifestyle. I'll try to snap pix of food if I can think about it.

You can pretty much any kind of food in Sydney, hugely multicultural city, if you go to the right hubs.
I've recently found this excellent ramen shop, run by 1 man and his assistant. Seen a few Japanese business men who work in Sydney eat there.

Duuuuuuude! Kouryu!!!! I had that last time I was in Akiba! I LOVE how you can get the noodles (and other parts) EXACTLY how you want.

Most of this looks soo delicious. REally makes me think the idea of Japanese food I have is quite limited: I only think of sushi, rice and natto ^^;;;

But over here, JP food isn't really out there. I've heard there are some restaurants in the bigger cities, but so far I've only been too one and it wasn't that interesting. But I've been told that's because 'Dutch' Japanese doesn't even come close to realy genuine JP cuisine.

And I've never even tried sushi before.....

Not so much a big selection in Tampa but in Anaheim CA where my Mom live's,there's a chain of HUGE Japanese supermarkets called Marukai.They sell everything there and they even had a bakery where they sell Choco cornets and Melon bread.^_^

The Japanese Department at my school is pretty big, since we have a lot of international students and exchange students- It is also a popular major. It has an arm in "Japan Club", one of the student organizations I serve in as an honorary officer (aka, not an officer, but attend all officer events and on officer mailing list), and we tend to host food nights where our Japanese TAs and officers will prepare food or go through tutorials on how to prepare food.

I'm also an official officer for our other Asian student organization, and we do events there too, though it is more slanted towards Chinese and Korean cuisine.

These days in London theres are dozens of sushi restaurants everywhere you go.

There's a wonderful Okonimiyaki place in London that claims to be the only specialist chain of Okonimiyaki restaurants in Europe. It's called Abeno and there's one near China Town. I highly recommend it.

Nice post Danny, In Leeds (UK) we generally have Little Tokyo or Fuji Hiro. Both are good but nothing compared to your pictures. You should maybe start giving us clues as to where these wonderful food places are so that we can find them on our travels...and if Gaijin are welcome!!

Well, here in Brazil there are actually a lot of Japanese restaurants, but mostly isn't good. They became kind of commonplace. And the only thing it's served is sushi, sashimi and tempura, feels like nothing else exists. You gotta take care 'cause you may buy old frozen sashimi, and it's not rare. There's no care about quality or Japan traditions, anyway, Japanese food here's made in a vulgar way, if you wanna know. Only if you go to an asian neighborhood called Liberdade you may find real Japanese food, but that's not for sure.

Anyway, we have several stores in our country that sells Japanese food, and Asian food in general. Although I have to travel to the city, which is about an hour and a half away, the food is cheap, and the items to choose from are many!

sake sashimi,california maki,gyoza and tenpura, everything must be accompained by chilled water, sapporo beer and sake!

yes, this is a sanma. sanma shioyaki (sanma fried with salt)

Japanese food selection is pretty good here. A 15 minute drive to authentic sushi, ramen, curry, etc. is all there is to it. But the amount of Japanese restaurants run by gaijin is super common here as well. They taste good, but definitely different when compared to the authentic mom and pop places here. We even have a place that puts out kotatsu during the winter.

I so wish that there where more chances to get Japanese food in Finland. Helsinki have few sushi bars and very few Japanese restaurants that are everything else then cheap. Japanese restaurant in Finland is considered to be exclusive and is usually pretty expensive. Means also that the food you get there is normally not everyday type of food but more of higher class type of food. Very annoying I have to say, especially of being tortured by this post ( on a VERY empty stomach must add :D ). Off to empty the fridge I guess :D
