Marriage in Japan

This ad on the train is advertising a mobile site where folks can look for marriage partners.

Konkatsu [婚活] is a relatively new word used to refer to "looking for a marriage partner." Many folks of late are having difficulty in finding their eternal partner. The clip below talks about some of the Konkatsu trends including events where men and women get to meet each other for *one minute* before they move on to meet the next "candidate." Deciding on a marriage partner in 60 seconds. Hmmm.

The video below also talks about how the Japanese population will decrease *by a third* within the next 90 years. Folks need to find their partners so that they have have ecchi and make babies to save Japan.
The report also shows how the average age of marriage has gone up from 20 to 30 since the 1970's. I got married when I was about 25. Was a poor student back then and my wife paid for the rings.

If you is being married, at what age did you take the vow to be faithful to your partner forever?

But then there are folks who cant be bothered to get married due to the costs involved. I know a few people who have spent over 2,000,000 yen just for the one day. Wifey and I had a registration job at the town hall and decided that we would rather save for our future rather than blow a huge amount of moolah in one day.
Did you have an expensive white wedding or a town hall registration job?
