Japan Subway Posters

More from the "do it at home" series of posters by Tokyo Metro. For those who are not familiar with the series, these are posters found on the Tokyo metro stations and trains to remind people of their manners. You can see the whole series at Tokyo Metro.

This one here asks folks to be considerate and give up the priority silver seat which is designated for disabled, pregnant or other needy folks.
One thing that continues to surprise me is how many young folks don't bother to get up for others. I've seen a woman with a baby on her back carrying shopping in both hands - all the young folks sitting around her were pretending to be asleep or playing with their mobile phone.

And then there are the folks who treat the entrance to the train like the entrance to their bedroom.

Sometimes you would see girls snuggling up to each other and perform the symmetrical docking. Tokyo Metro don't seem to like this but I think its fine.

always get up for old folks
i always think its scary for them to stand when the bus is moving so violently
so i just go out of my way and give it to them instead of waiting for them to ask

its probably due to experience from youths, that the old folks over here hardly bother asking for seats anymore

Being a high schooler we ALWAYS have to get up for older people/women with children.
I've witnessed many students from my school not offering their seat, and as a result getting yelled at by angry seniors.

Aha, so that's how the original posters look like. Not as cutely drawn as the third one. I guess it's fine in the train as long as the girls doing yuri-play aren't taking up space for pregnant ladies or older folks ^^

Interesting to hear about the younger people in Japan not wanting to give up their seat though. I've seen many younger folks here giving up their seat quite often, oh and we have designated seats for people who needs the seat too.

Funny enough that happened just a couple of days ago when a lot of people were asking if the lady with her baby on her back wanted a seat and she didn't want it. Eventually she did find a seat and proceeds to breastfeed her baby... I wasn't looking... >.>

I think, Why should I give a seat to aliens? Nobody saw the big white void staring eyes???
    They are blood thirsty!!!!

The first one says "don't fool around, aliens will lure you into making you leave them ypur seat, and eat you up!"

The second reads "Be careful, they'll kidnap and eat you and you'll leave one more lost luggage troubling the exit!".

Third one is "Yuri play is like honey for bears, by doing that you'll spot humans right away! Aliens don't like yuri play!!"

Reminds me of a certain video of a man who messed with a 67-year old Vietnam War veteran. I'm guessing some people know of the video~

Whenever I ride train in Japan, I get up for women with children or old folks and I'm not even Japanese(but I'm a Korean so I do have similar cultural standard) and I do see that most young Japanese folks would not get up for others and even seat on priority seats. I never seat on priority seats since it is reserved for those people described to seat there and it bothers me when young people seat there and won't get up for disabled, pregnant or other needy folks :P I think young people these days lack manners it seems sigh.

lemme ask you guys. have any of you approached these "illmannered young kids" to get the hell off the seat before?

quite effective once you try =). it IS the next step from just giving your own seat and eyeing the others for not doing the same.

    Dreamer, does that work?

I rode the subway into Boston to go see the Rippingtons perform in a free concert ages ago when the local jazz radio station invited them. Both there and back to my car I was forced to stand on the subway train. As more folks crammed into the car I had to use the overhead handles hanging from the roof of the train. Being on the short side I could only hang from them with my toes just brushing the floor of the train. I ended up just crouching a bit and trying to maintain my footing as the train moved.

Though the trains in Boston are a far cry from those pictured in other places being rather clean and well lit.

Damn youngsters these days, I'd gladly give up my seat if I saw someone in need one one.
3rd image: I'm sure the station minds, but not the guy standing outside the window.

The third picture is full of fun ^^
    Love it.

I give my seat to people on the underground. I will offer my seat to the pregnant and elderly. I once got up and offered a elderly a seat when she got on. None of the people even bothered for her husband. :(

The 3rd image is pure win.

I wonder just how effective posters like those really are. I know that out here most people just flat out avoid using good manners as if they don't exist. Although from my experience most buses around here aren't usually that crowded anyway. I do however remember once giving my seat for an elderly person with a wheel chair.

I don't sit down in a public transit system, be it a train, bus, or seabus. Sitting down for more than half an hour makes my legs useless for hours. So none of these rules apply to me, yay!
However, I do approve of the anti-yuriplay rule. I don't recall ever seeing two girls good-looking enough (outisde of 2D) for me to approve of their fooling around.

The reminders poster being pasted all over metro was in a sense -- hilarious to look at. Don't those young teen feel the needs that a pregnant women or a disable person might want to have a sit too?

It would be fun seeing some yuri action while riding back home.
